Software that installs multiple shortcuts with the same hotkey should be shot. It's bad enough that I'm forced into using the Kindle app rather than getting the files direct, but more annoying that I have to delete multiple shortcuts before I can reuse the hotkey other software I'm already running uses. One shortcut? I can live with that. But there's no justification for shortcuts at multiple points on the system with the same hotkey, all blocking previously set-up tools.
Book piracy is just as prolific as ever, despite amazon's efforts. I'm no economist, but I have a strong feeling that open content, without DRM or country restrictions would sell better than the current walled-garden these suppliers insist upon.
Funny how these things annoy me all-the-more when my time at the computer is precious. Increasingly, I just want to use the tech, get the job done. SO thanks for slowing me down today, Amazon.
I agree with you. Besides that, I feel when we purchase Kindle content, we should be free and able to access it on any of the devices we use for reading.
I was reading something about this last week. Turns out, many people believe as far as Amazon's concerned, it's not about piracy, though that's what they love to talk about preventing. It's about vendor lock-in. If you have a large library of books in your Kindle account, you will be—at least in theory—less likely to switch to another Ebook platform since you can't convert your Kindle books into something you can take with you.
My dad just received his Ally Solos glasses. He likes them, but has a few questions. First, do the glasses automatically update their firmware? There seems to be nothing concerning firmware update, current version, etc. in the Ally app. Also, the documentation we've been able to find is extremely confusing about how to charge the glasses. At one point it says the magnetic cable can only be used with the left arm. Then elsewhere it says a USB C cable can only be used with the left arm. But then in another place it says you can charge both arms at the same time. Does anyone have any info on this? Please boost for reach. Ich kenne leider noch keine, suche schon lange... Nur die Eintragung als Konto in Ubuntu Gnome hat geholfen, dass ich mit Nautilus direkt zugreifen kann, löst aber das synchronisationsproblem nicht.
Probleme mit der Synchronisation habe ich keine, die läuft wie geschmiert 😀. Nur das Interface ist nicht nutzbar. Soweit ich weiß liegt das an Inkompatibilitäen von #QT.

@Tutanota For some reason, emails I send from my tutamail.com address have recently started to always end up classified as spam unless I was specifically whitelisted. This is an issue for example when I try to email a company to get customer support—they never see my email so I never get a reply.
I’ve never sent spam, so I don’t know why this is happening.
Is this a known issue? Is there something I can do? Is there something you can do on your end?
I find it bold stating that #DeltaChat doesn’t need a hyperscaler like #Signal does when it is based on… email servers. Where there is no audio/video calling. Where every sender and recipient server knows who is communicating with whom. Where you need to trust every decentralized server to not keep that information. sure, nobody said avoiding hyperscalers is easy. In 8 years of project time we got about a tenth of the money that signal gives to hyperscalers, yearly. We can only tackle the challenges one by one, with the resources and skills we have, and see how far we get. Still some way 🤷🏽
So how are you going to disprove the claim that you need hyperscalers when providing a service like #Signal does? Because that is what your post said. But I don’t see you providing a service like Signal does. And I’m sure DeltaChat does good stuff, but I was using PGP for mails 20 years ago. So maybe don’t try do dunk on another service while providing the same metadata protection we had 20 years ago?

Signal doesn't have sealed receiver; it only has sealed sender (that only sometimes works). How can it deliver the message to the recipient if it doesn't know who the recipient is?
It knows who the recipient is. Recipients create a token and give it to future senders; senders only include that. They don't need to authenticate because the only way they could know this token is if the receiver already "trusts" them. All the details are in signal.org/blog/sealed-sender/

exactly. So if Delta sends all messages with a noreply@ sender on the envelope, the recipient's PGP key ID is scrubbed (already a feature in rpgp), and we have ephemeral addresses then anyone inspecting the email won't know for sure who the sender was or who the recipient is
really the biggest problem Delta has with solving these problems *today* is that there's an established userbase so the code has to be written and tested then slipped into several releases before it can be turned on or things will break for users because they often aren't aware of updates
But you don’t address any of the privacy issues that exist in a post-Snowden threat model. Designing something that works in this context at all is hard, doing it in a decentralised setting is even harder (doing it in a federated model is probably impossible). But you continue to criticise Signal while not even attempting to solve the problems.
You are working with the same threat model that we used when I worked on XMPP 20+ years ago, which is no longer relevant to the modern Internet.
and yet Signal hasn't even fixed the "phone number tied to your government identity required to have an account", "your ISP is tied to your government identity and knows the IP addresses you've used", and the "group members can be identified because they're exposing their IP addresses to the CDN" problems.
Aren't these significant post-Snowden threat model problems too?

That FAQ suggests that you are not trying to solve the right problem. End to end encryption is a building block. It is nowhere near sufficient to protect the communication graph shape from a passive adversary.

@pianosaurus @icing it has some truth: at no previous time in history have we had as many people involved using AI powered tools in the curl factory as we do now. Primarily they have been relatively successful in their pursuit of finding flaws and defects in our code.
