Well, that Gaza peace deal lasted well. Perhaps he'll still get the Nobel Peace Prize for all the other wars he's ended (and the Ukraine war, when he has 24 hours away from the golf course). bbc.co.uk/news/live/c891ex72nj…

Is Google Killing Android Sideloading? F-Droid Says Yes, Google Says No
phandroid.com/2025/10/29/is-go…

We also say "yes". It will harm the FOSS world. There are people who cannot "dox" themselves for "Google verification", or risk their personal safety.

Plus after all: can or should we really trust our personal data to a company whose business consists of selling them?

Sylvia reshared this.

Wednesday.

Software that installs multiple shortcuts with the same hotkey should be shot. It's bad enough that I'm forced into using the Kindle app rather than getting the files direct, but more annoying that I have to delete multiple shortcuts before I can reuse the hotkey other software I'm already running uses. One shortcut? I can live with that. But there's no justification for shortcuts at multiple points on the system with the same hotkey, all blocking previously set-up tools.

Book piracy is just as prolific as ever, despite amazon's efforts. I'm no economist, but I have a strong feeling that open content, without DRM or country restrictions would sell better than the current walled-garden these suppliers insist upon.

Funny how these things annoy me all-the-more when my time at the computer is precious. Increasingly, I just want to use the tech, get the job done. SO thanks for slowing me down today, Amazon.

in reply to Sean Randall

I was reading something about this last week. Turns out, many people believe as far as Amazon's concerned, it's not about piracy, though that's what they love to talk about preventing. It's about vendor lock-in. If you have a large library of books in your Kindle account, you will be—at least in theory—less likely to switch to another Ebook platform since you can't convert your Kindle books into something you can take with you.

My dad just received his Ally Solos glasses. He likes them, but has a few questions. First, do the glasses automatically update their firmware? There seems to be nothing concerning firmware update, current version, etc. in the Ally app. Also, the documentation we've been able to find is extremely confusing about how to charge the glasses. At one point it says the magnetic cable can only be used with the left arm. Then elsewhere it says a USB C cable can only be used with the left arm. But then in another place it says you can charge both arms at the same time. Does anyone have any info on this? Please boost for reach. Thanks. *** Hashtags follow *** #AllySolos #AllyGlasses #AllySoloGlasses #SoloGlasses #Envision #EnvisionGlasses #EnvisionSolos #EnvisionAlly #EnvisionSoloGlasses #EnvisionAllySoloGlasses

Nvidia hits record highs as groundbreaking AI innovations unveiled at GTC 2025. #NVDA #AINews #StockMarket #TechInnovation

Hi! Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

Global Memory Shortage Sparks Samsung Price Hikes: Why You Should Buy Now Before It’s Too Late

Introduction A storm is brewing in the world of technology — and it’s not about foldable screens or flashy upgrades this time. The silent force reshaping the market is memory. As the demand for artificial intelligence continues to skyrocket, the pressure on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) production has reached critical levels. From AI servers to smartphones, every device now…

@Tutanota For some reason, emails I send from my tutamail.com address have recently started to always end up classified as spam unless I was specifically whitelisted. This is an issue for example when I try to email a company to get customer support—they never see my email so I never get a reply.

I’ve never sent spam, so I don’t know why this is happening.

Is this a known issue? Is there something I can do? Is there something you can do on your end?

@Tuta

I find it bold stating that #DeltaChat doesn’t need a hyperscaler like #Signal does when it is based on… email servers. Where there is no audio/video calling. Where every sender and recipient server knows who is communicating with whom. Where you need to trust every decentralized server to not keep that information. Maybe be less smug if you can’t provide metadata protection. 🙄 @delta chaos.social/@delta/1154540411…

Signal's president claimed it takes billions to replicate the availability and reliability of "hyperscalers" (AWS/Google/Microsoft/Cloudfare) that Signal uses.

#chatmail and #deltachat are about disproving this claim by

1) making relays super cheap (DONE)

2) enabling chat profiles to use multiple relays redundantly (WIP)

3) distributing relay knowledge among chatters (TBD).

Fat servers, corporate overlords and billionaires: not needed and better to not exist for a convivial e2ee future :)

@syphdias
1) end-to-end latency on a 33EUR chatmail relay with ~200K monthly active users is sub-second. see attachment.

2) metadata details are here: delta.chat/en/help#message-met…
including a note on sealed sender (which btw Signal only does opportunistically by default, and easily falls back to non-sealed)

The other day we had our first ever chained AI tool success on the #curl factory floor:

- tool A found a possible flaw in code and reported it.

- using the plain English description from tool A, tool B could create a reproducible by itself that verified the finding

The sense of magic is strong in this.

Now us poor humans need to fix it. The AIs are still really lousy at writing patches.
