I recently bought the TP-Link NE200, one of the few outdoor 5G modems on the market. As I couldn't find any unboxing videos, and the product descriptions didn't specify what was included, I decided to make my first unboxing and installation video. It's quite amateurish, but maybe someone will find it useful.

A few days after Christmas, a mom was tidying up in the kitchen while her young son played with his brand-new electric train set in the living room.

Suddenly, she heard him shout:
“Alright, everyone off! Grab your junk and scram—this is the last stop! And if you’re getting on, move it! We don’t have all day!”

Her eyes widened in shock. She marched into the room and said,
“Excuse me, mister! That is not how we speak in this house. You go to your room right now and think about your tone. You can come back in two hours and try again—with manners!”

Two hours later, the boy returned to his train set, picked up the remote, and started again.

His mom listened from the kitchen as he sweetly announced:
“Ladies and gentlemen, we hope you enjoyed your ride. Please take all personal items with you as you leave. Thank you for choosing our train service today!”

Then he continued,
“For our new passengers, welcome aboard! Kindly store your bags and find a seat. Just a reminder—this is a no-smoking train. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey.”

The mom grinned, feeling proud of the improvement… until he added:

“And if anyone’s mad about the two-hour delay, please see the rude and angry woman stuck in the kitchen.”

It's a tradition at least 5,000 years old (when Egyptians started the Bastet cult), that people love cat pics. So we said, why not – and let the cat in:

If you use the GMail web interface, you can create bookmarks, shortcuts, etc. To quickly switch to your accounts.

The basic format is: `mail.google.com/mail/u/0`.

0 is your first active account, 1 is next, etc.

On Windows, I have a batchfile (mail.bat) on my path. It looks like:
```
@start mail.google.com/mail/u/%1
```

Then, I can simply type "mail 0" into the run dialogue, and I'm at account 0.

To make the open web safer, Google is launching *website owner verification*. Starting in 2026, Google will require all websites to be registered in order to be opened on Chrome.

All website owners are encouraged to sign up for early access. This is the best way to get ready and stay updated.

To get verified, all you need to do is providing your personal details, upload an official ID, and pay a 25$.

For hobbyists, Google is working on another console so you can add every Google accounts that are allowed to see your website.

And as Google is committed to keep the web open, they will provide a command line interface to open a single page of a non-verified website, but it's very dangerous and your Chrome will lose its certification. This will allow banks to forbid access to their website from non-certified Chrome.

When you call Vispero, please show extra kindness to their sales and support staff. As someone who provided support full-time and who still takes support calls when needed, I can only imagine how rough it must be for them to be dealing with confused, resentful and angry customers. Remember, they don't make top-level decisions. They might not even agree with them but please don't ask them what they think about them as they can't tell you, they surely won't tell you and it's likely that calls are being recorded and they're trying to be professional and to represent the company and its products in the best possible light. Please thank them for their service.

Wanted: a lightweight open-source OCR engine, ideally as light as the OCR engine built into Windows 10/11 (apparently intended for mobile apps while MS was still trying to play that game), so not one of the current heavy deep-learning-based implementations, but also as good at handling color screenshots (particularly those with a mix of background/foreground color schemes) as Windows OCR. In my experience Tesseract fails on that latter point; would love to know if I'm just missing some trick.

🎉 BIG WIN for small tech! 🎉

While #Apple continues to protect its #monopoly, #Google wants to settle the case with #EpicGames, allowing developers to:

✅ Link to outside payments
✅ Share direct downloads
✅ Skip Google’s 30% cut

Are we seeing a revival of "Don't be evil" after all?
