I just did some tests again with my pulse oximeter and 30-40s delay until the %SpO2 value changes seems about right here as well. I think this is (mainly) from measuring at a finger and how circulation works.
This was a super spontaneous shoot I did with Hidero. We're collabing on some somewhat ambitious breathplay ideas atm and I wanted to test the viability of Spo2 sensors as a safety measure. Then we kinda just decided to film it.
It's interesting that the oximeter readings seem to have a ~40 second delay from my breath changing. Does anyone know if that's an issue with this cheap sensor? Due to circulation? A delay in oxygen getting from my lungs into my blood?
I have a relatively cheap "iChoice" that I bought off Amazon several years ago, but I've never 'stress tested' it like that. I know the HR on mine is fairly consistent with more expensive devices (like my Withings BP cuff), but I can't speak for the in/consistency, in/accuracy, or feedback delays of the oximeter part.
@pockets I suspect that the delay is mostly caused by my body, but I wouldn't be surprised if the sensor had a ~10 second delay. I think it does some averaging to smooth out fluctuations. After putting it on, it takes about 10 seconds before it gives the first reading.
@Bubu At least with this specific sensor, I think it's probably too delayed and too noisy to use as a safety feature. I have a few more ideas to try still though.
I felt fine during the scene, not dizzy or faint. It makes me wonder how far I'd have to push it before passing out.
The sensor can be connected to a phone via Bluetooth. I just screen recorded the app.
@Bubu I'm interested in trying the pulse oximeter on my earlobe and seeing if that gives a faster response time. Medical literature is divided about the accuracy of finger vs ear placement, but response time isn't really a high priority in medical settings so I can't find much on that.

I have a big interrogation about @xmpp I've seen recommended multiple times the OTR encryption protocol, it looks better than simple OpenPGP. We need to rehome some of our kitties because my partner and I are both experiencing health challenges that are both costly and impacting our ability to adequately care for all our kitties.
I have no idea how to go about this. We have ten cats right now. In no particular order (and little alt-text, as I'll describe in the posts—I can't add more than four pics). We're in the Houston metro area, kinda near where 290 comes off 610. My partner used to know folks who did this, but not currently.
The front cats. There's a door between the kitchen and other public areas and the rest of the house. It stays closed.
Spike: He's in his late teens. He's incredibly shy and distrustful of strangers. He's a white and gray tabby, but with a white area on his back (not visable). He stays
Kitsune: I call her Kiki. She's a 13- yo calico who will accept attention from anyone, so long as you don't try to pick her up. She stays.
Freya: She likes to sleep on a cat bed in the front window. Entirely white except for tiny black dot on her nose. She used to bully Squirrel, and would be okay as an only cat or as an addition to a household, as she was an addition.I believe she was born in 2019, and littered young. Her kittens went to forever homes before I moved in. She's waving friends with both Spike and Star—they greet each other by batting at each other for a bit. She's available by herself.
The Interns: These three were born in January, 2020, in a cat enclosure on my stepdaughter's porch. There was a fourth who didn't make it. Their mother wa TNR, and, due to quarantine they ended up staying.
Star: She was named because she's entirely black with small groups of white hairs that resemble a starfield. She is super friendly with people. She has recurring ear issues. When she's dealing with that she over-grooms, and we support her with special gooshy. She would be available with Squirrel as a pair.
Squirrel: She's a chonky bullseye brown tabby with a bobbed tail that her mother must have bitten off by accident. She is afraid of everything and everyone, though she will sometimes join Kitsune and Weasel in my lap. She is available with any of Star, Weasel, or Squeaker, or with Star and Weasel as a trio.
Weasel: She used to climb into the dishwasher and lick at the dishes when I was loading it. She's the mackerel brown tabby in the picture with Kitsune, Star, and Spike. She will use her paw to move her treats bowl away from interlopers. She has a unique raw element to her meows, and prefers being near my feet when I'm in the recliner. She's available with Squirrel or as a trio including Star.
The Backsters:
Noodle: She's a tortoimese. The photo where her eye looks like a laser captures her personality best. She was rescued at fourish months, and hid in a ramen noodle box. I am her human, and she is finally accepting attention from my partner (we moved in in February, 2020). She didn't meow or play until I adopted Fur Elise. She stays.
Fur Elise: She likes laundry and little catnip mice. If you throw one of her meeses, she'll chase it and pounce on it. She's large, and a very dark gray tabby. She stays for Noodle.
Squeaker: He's an ambassador, and would be happy with the frontsters or the backsters. We had to restrict him to the back because he needs Hill's prescription c/d urinary diet. As an accommodation, we cut the Hill's kibble with the non-prescription ProPlan urinary support kibble, and free-feed all the backsters. He's not a gooshy eater, which may be why he developed the crystals. He squeaks instead of meowing (although he yowls when he's in the carrier on the way to/from the vet). our youngest, and was born iv the summer of 2022. He's available with Squirrel or Ma Ma Ma, or by himself if he's moving in with other cats. He absolutely gets along with every cat here.
Ma Ma Ma; Her meow sounds more like she's saying, "Mah! Mah! Mah!' She's very pretty, and the pic I have is her on the top of a bookshelf, with my unshaded warm LED lamp shining up at her. Noodle and Ma Ma Ma are frenemies; if I'm petting one, the other will casually wander up and interpose herself. She is available with Squeaker or alone.

Well it would appear that I’m going to be embarking on a crash course in learning the ins and outs of #NVDA in a big hurry. #JAWS is initiating some hocus pocus that I’m not the least bit happy with. They are going to start requiring all of us who use JAWS to create accounts and sign in. JAWS is not Microsoft 365. It’s a screenreader, not a suite of programs. What would be the purpose of requiring this? I’m just not comfortable with this, so it looks like I’m going to stop using the screenreader I’ve been using for 20 plus years. I’m told that #NVDA is as robust as JAWS, I most certainly hope so. I’m disappointed that there aren’t more options out there. For not the first time over the years, I’m finding myself missing good old WindowEyes. #A11Y
It might depend what you're doing, in terms of which screen reader is better, although familiarity is a factor, and learning how to use NVDA is a good idea. I'm glad now that I don't use or depend on JAWS. I don't use Windows primarily, but, when I do, I use NVDA, and I would rather give my money to the NVDA developers and support a screen reader that is freely available (it might be different if I had a need to use JAWS--I'm not a purist and have to live my life, but I feel like I have enough screen readers without it).
I'd have to search for it, but Chris Hofstader wrote a blog post a long time ago where he commented on the irony of Freedom Scientific salespeople trying to dissuade people from using NVDA by saying that it was "too guys in a garage" and could go away at any time, and then the VFO Group acquired GW Micro (if I remember my history correctly) and killed Window-Eyes. So much for proprietary software being reliable where OSS is supposedly not.
The E.U. in particular is really becoming controling when it comes to Internet use. I suspect more countries will follow. They want to know the age of people using more andmore programs, from games to social networks, so I think you're going to soon see this in just about everything. I was originally opposed to Tweesecake's requiring an account to use their app, but I've since decided that it's the way of the future and I might as well roll with it. You're not looking for an argument, I know, but for anyone who is, don't bother. Ultimately I don't know any more than you do.

Re account, no we don't have any intention of going in that direction. NVDA is completely offline at least in that regard (you need to be online to access the add-on store or use NVDA Remote, but for most features it doesn't need internet access) - any "online" content you read in your web browser etc with NVDA is the content that browser or other program has already downloaded to process and display.

For those unaware, casein, which is derived from dairy, is often used to soften latex condoms, making them not vegan. There are other chemicals like glycerin in condoms that may be of animal origin.
I'm writing something (I'll post it once it's finished) and just realized that I used the word "present" twice in the same sentence, and the word has multiple meanings, some of which are distinguishable when spoken aloud, depending on which syllable is accented. And I wasn't even trying to make a pun or anything like that, but I think I'll keep the sentence as-is; I'm not sure how I'd re-word it anyhow. English is weird.
I seem to recall there being some fancy term for the English words where the noun and verb are typically written the same way but accented differently. I can't remember what it would be though, and it's hard to look up.

příjmy z YT jsou dost overrated. Podle mě si na smysluplné peníze sáhne <1% autorů. Petr Šimáček mi říkal, že má sice tisíce zhlédnutí, ale reálně jsou z toho desítky korun měsíčně. Takový Gardiner Bryant má na YT 130 tisíc sledujících a má z toho 200 dolarů měsíčně. Začal publikovat i na PeerTube, vyzval lidi, jestli by mu nepomohli nahradit příjem z reklam na YT, a už je na 180 dolarech a to při pouhých 1600 sledujících. YT je vlastně dost mizerná platforma z pohledu poměru příjmů/diváci. Takže peníze bych ani neřešil. Oni spíš řeší počet diváků a jestli se otravovat s novou platformou, která jim přinese třeba 10 % diváků, co YouTube. Škoda, že nefunguje spolehlivě to automatické zrcadlení z YT, to by byl pro ně dobrý argument. Pak by mohli být na PeerTube, aniž by s tím měli práci navíc.
Jasně, pokud se bavíš jenom o českém Webu, tak to je asi tak. Já když jsem psal, tak jsem měl na mysli youtube.com/@t3dotgg a podobné lidi, a tam je to trochu o jiných penězích.
Vhsky.cz jsou česká instance, zajímá nás primárně český obsah, i když tam máme i zajímavý obsah v angličtině federovaný z jiných instancí. Nicméně nebavím se o českém webu, bavím se o Youtube obecně. Jinde mají úplně stejný problém: 99 % tvůrců dostává od Googlu za obsah na Youtube úplný pakatel, takže těch, kteří můžou zvážit i jinou platformu, protože to na ně nemá žádný finanční dopad, je pořád hodně. Jak jsem psal, problém podle mě nejsou prachy, ale určitý mentální blok z toho jednoduchého monopolního světa, kdy se videa prostě dávají jen na YT, vystoupit.
S tímto souvisí i to, že videa na Peertube nejsou vůbec indexovaná vyhledávači. Moje přednášky z OpenAltu nahrané na YT jsou pěkně dohledatelné. Google ve výsledcích videa nezobrazuje nic mimo YT. A i DDG/Bing tam mají z 95 % jen YT. Tohle hodně smrdí zneužíváním dominantního postavení na trhu. @mcepl
To je proto, že Searxng používá jako jeden ze zdrojů Sepia Search, který vytvořili přímo vývojáři Peertube na indexování PT videí. Ale pokud nám jde o větší publikum, tak nás nemůže utěšovat, že to Searxng zvládne, zatímco ostatní vyhledávače, které mají dohromady podíl na trhu 99,9 %, ne. :)
Pěkně. Líbí se mi, že Kagi umí u i videí z PeerTube zobrazit počet lajků. Zajímalo by mě, jestli ty záznamy z PeerTube mají z indexu Googlu a jen to na rozdíl od něj ve výsledcích hledání neskrývají, nebo to je nějaký dodatečný zdroj.
tohle bych očekával, že bude spíš jejich index. Obecně se snaží brát i nemainstreamove zdroje (mají i kategorii small web).
Jednak mají vlastní index, jednak berou data ze všech hlavních vyhledávačů a pak i z různých okrajových zdrojů a výsledek je pak kompilace tohohle všeho.
Ani velcí zahraniční tvůrci si YouTube reklamami nevydělají moc. Většinu příjmů mají ze sponzorovaných segmentů, prodeje vlastního merche, nebo přímé podpory přes YouTube Membership, Patreon a další předplatitelský služby.
Právě proto (jak píšou ostatní) je pro ně hlavní dosah. BTW Jiří cituje poměr YT / PT sledujících u Gardinera Bryanta jako 10%, ale on má coby Linuxový tvůrce hodně specifický publikum. U jiných tvůrců by to nejspíš bylo míň.
poměr sledujících je i u toho Gardinera pořád skoro 100:1. Zajímavé na tom bylo to, že i ta setina sledujících dokázala na příspěvcích už prakticky vyrovnat příjem, který má od Googlu. Pro samotný příjem podle dosahu by to nemusel být problém. Ti lidi budou samozřejmě dál publikovat na YT, PT by pro ně byl navíc. Nevím ale, jak ty kontrakty v praxi fungují. Jestli třeba platí za počet zhlédnutí videa, kde byla jejich reklama, tak čísla z YT můžou brát jako věrohodná, zatímco ta z neznámé PT instance ne. Ale to hodně přebíháme. Podle mě nemá aktuálně smysl cílit na lidi, kteří z toho mají nějaký zajímavý příjem. Na YT jsou tisíce autorů, kteří z toho nemají nic a dělají videa, protože se chtějí o něco podělit. Pokud jejich témata mají cílovku ve Fediverse jako u toho Gardinera, může to mít pro ně smysl.

I bought mine with the same idea in mind but also came to this conclusion, then didn't really do a lot with it.
