Peter Pellegrini: Russia-friendly populist elected Slovak president

Takto nás vidia v zahraničí. Predpokladám, že z kremla príde pochvala.
Ale aspoň sme najliberálnejšia krajina v strednej a východnej Európe. Nikde ešte nemajú geja prezidentom.

"Blind internet users struggle with error-prone AI aids", reports an article in the Financial Times:
ft.com/content/3c877c55-b698-4…

#FT has a paywall but three articles can be accessed for free if you register.

TLDR is that AI #accessibility widgets over promise and under deliver. Repeatedly.

Genuine question. How many more times does #BigTech censorship have to take place against journalists before you start writing on your own websites and directing people to your #RSS feed instead of relying on your social media traffic? There's thousands of places that will host your own website for you, for a price. I list a few below! No, it's not free, but how many times does this have to happen to you? thehandbasket.co/p/kansas-refl…

And here, I list a bunch of places that will host your own website for you!

I think for many people it's hard to have a self-promotion career. It is similar to trying to make it on your own as an independent musician or writer. In theory easy, in practice almost impossible, unless you have a lot of time on your hands and a boundless amount of energy. Not saying it's not possible, just super-hard and probably not for everyone!

I had a couple things come across my timeline that made me think about how far science, especially space science, has come during my lifetime.

For example, when I was younger, Pluto was not much more than a few blurry pixels of a planet, now it is a richly detailed world (and dwarf planet).

When I was a kid, there were 9 planets, now we know thousands, most exoplanets outside the solar system. Wild to think about. 1/3 🧵

I used Deemix GUI, and recently found that my copy isn't working anymore. I did about two minutes of research on this before deciding it wasn't worth the bother, and now I just use deemix from the terminal. You can pip install it, and then do something like
deemix -p music/deemix deezer.com/en/track/13111714

This is brilliantly said. When I met with them on Friday my time, I predicted that complying with the Guidelines with generate a lot of good will and that people who were in a position to would be more inclined to support the app. I will be keeping my subscription too because I want to see the app grow and it’s something I’m able to afford. oceanplayground.social/@Lyness…

reminder once again if you have a 3ds or wii u to dump the spotpass data on it: spotpassarchive.github.io/

just looked at the spreadsheet and there are quite a few common 3ds titles with incomplete data, but that's nowhere near as much as the wii u list which shows a large majority of titles as having incomplete data

we only have until april 8 to archive everything, the link above has guides for both modded and unmodded systems

This is an excellent guide to writing in plain English.

"49% of adults in Canada have below high-school literacy levels, and 17% are unable to follow written instructions or read maps."

"Half adults in the U.S. struggle to read a book written for eighth-graders."

If your first instinct is 'why are people ‘dumb’?’ you are elitist and not inclusive. There are plenty of immigrants and others. As web professionals it should be your job to include *everyone*

#AndroidAppRain at apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid today with 15 updated and 2 added apps:

* MonsterMusic: local music player with equalizer & more
* Recording WebCam: cam that shoots images and videos and can upload them to a server of your choice

Further, fdroidserver has been updated to the latest code with the repo name bug adjusted and an extra security patch applied. Details on the latter follow as soon as its author has them published, and will hopefully be picked up by @fdroidorg then as well.

in reply to Hans-Christoph Steiner

@eighthave Oh, it's nothing new and unknown. It was reported to fdroidserver almost a year ago (so disclosure was already done, though not by me; I just got pointed to it last week) and you even commented on it. So I guess no need to rush now?

I'm currently testing the patch at my repo, maybe you can wait a few days more? It was running fine on my test and then staging area, and is in "production" now for a little more than a day. Patch author will certainly publish it soon.

Disability aids are often marketed to larger markets bc economies of scale are real. If you find yourself scoffing at something “pointless” for “lazy” people, it’s probably a disability aid that the manufacturer hopes can be made more affordable.

(I worked hard on the alt text here, it felt important.)

Quote from Kishin Manglani on the #VoiceDream mailing list:

"Following our recent announcement to transition #VoiceDream to a subscription, we received an overwhelming response from thousands in our community. Your feedback, along with the impactful stories shared about Voice Dream being a pivotal part of your daily lives, has led us to reverse this change.

We will continue to provide access to the app's existing features at no additional cost.

As we continue developing Voice Dream, some new features may be offered as part of a subscription, but the current capabilities will remain free to those who have already purchased Voice Dream.

For those who have already moved to a subscription, it's no longer necessary to continue using the app. You may cancel your subscription, but we welcome you to keep it active to support ongoing development."

Having gone to cancel my #VoiceDream subscription in the #iOS #AppStore while it is still a free trial, they sure do have an interesting list of plans. The monthly subscription options range from £4.99 to £19.99, and the annual options from £49.99 to £119.99. There is also an option labelled "Premium", which is also annually billed, at £79.99.
