Thanks for your feedback. No one likes ads, which is why we never show 3rd-party advertising or sell user data. And as you probably know, Thunderbird is 100% free and open source, funded only by donations from our users.

The type of donation appeal you saw today resulted in Thunderbird having a record-breaking 2023, and cemented the sustainability of the project. This generosity dramatically improves Thunderbird.

More about this in our talk from FOSDEM: fosdem.org/2024/schedule/event…

@thunderbird
Yes, this was really weird. Esp. because it used to be a tab or message pane tile.
I was trying to open Thunderbird and Firefox boots up; why?
This is esp. bad if the browser is left closed, maybe due to a 20 windows 700 tabs session and then boom: either all overwritten (less likely) or it cogs the system when not expected.
Please roll back this change.

Reading stories like this, it always surprises me that no internet service provider is charging extra for connecting to foreign IP addresses.

An easy project anyone can do that would be super helpful:

Turn on the screen reader and try to navigate through various parts of the shell and apps with the keyboard

If there’s something you can’t access or that the screen reader can’t read (or what it says is too generic/unhelpful), file an issue report in GitHub!

Hot tip of the day, as it's one worth re-posting once in a blue moon: Use MMSYS.cpl after pressing Win+ R, to open the classic version of the sound control panel. From here, you can press the first letter of your sound device and press alt+S to set it as default, or press spacebar to open the property sheet for it. If muted: Press CTRL+tab, tab, spacebar to unmute it, or don't press tab after hitting CTRL+tab, but use arrows to adjust volume directly. Either way, it's sexy, it's old, it works.

Sometimes going back to The Source to understand something and define your own position is really helpful. Not just when you're a programmer working with Open Source/Free Software :) Here's another source that you should really read, read again and form your own opinion on when looking at what is happening around you at a political, economical and empathy level. Take your time. 30 articles that help a lot. un.org/en/about-us/universal-d…

If you use brew’s curl on macOS, are you really using it? I installed and had curl setup a couple of years ago. Today it appears that curl was now pointing to Apple’s version, which has this issue (daniel.haxx.se/blog/2024/03/08…). Looks like brew doesn’t add a symlink for curl to /opt/homebrew/bin. Running `ln -s /opt/homebrew/opt/curl/bin/curl /opt/homebrew/bin` resolved the issue.

‘When security and accessibility clash: why are banking applications so inaccessible?’
nicchan.me/blog/when-security-…

I once did a presentation for a bank client explaining all the ways preventing paste disables users.

The response: “But we have to, for security.” No ability to justify beyond that, no consideration of user impact, no offer of supporting data.

Security theater is often used to abrogate #accessibility requirements. #a11y
