Happy #DocumentFreedomDay everyone! 🤩 Today, the Open Source Club at OSU had members present templates made in the open OPT standard, bringing more creative resources to the open format community at large! Big props to @dff and @libreoffice for all the work they do in bringing accessibility and sovereignty to people’s academic and professional digital lives. 😎 We can’t wait to do it again next year!

@alexhall @walkside3 Not braille labeled, but incredibly convinient. Oxo has a really good set of messuring spoons and stackable liquid messuring cups that come in a range of sizes. My messuring spoon set comes in 1/8 tsp to 1 tbsp, and the liquid messuring cups come in a set that has everything from 1tsp to 8 ounces. I'll get links if people are interested. (1/2)

Was laid off a month ago from my #accessibility lead position. I've only gotten one callback in that month so far. Trying #getfedihired (#fedihire ?) - been working fulltime in accessibility since 2016, experienced with cross-team collaborations, & had input on design systems and component libraries in addition. #UX is also something I'm familiar with, as that's the closest field aside from accessibility. I'm US based, speak EN but learning JP & beginning FR. Remote/ teletravail please!

True ADHD story…

For a good hour I was working on consolidating the tabs in my browser.

I closed lots of them. But when I finished there were actually more than when I began.

People always say ADHD is a superpower. It some ways it is. But in other ways it’s a lot of WTF moments.

😩 Yesterday was a rough day. I was installing Pandoc with Homebrew on Monterey. It took over an hour just to build GHC, and then my computer completely froze. I had to shut it down manually. After rebooting, my Mac didn’t even recognize the internal SSD in recovery mode. I can’t even reinstall macOS—there’s no drive showing up to install it on! #Apple #ComputerMeltdown

Holy breach of privacy, Batman. Was talking with one of our broadcasters at Dodge who broadcasts for another station. She’s also apparently the “manager of the visually impaired“ of which there is only one other person. As if that’s not enough of a red flag, the station is mostly sighted folks… She was telling me that apparently, on their schedule, not only do they list if a presenter is based abroad, so outside of the UK, which… OK, I could see that… But they also indicate when one is visually impaired or blind. I’m sorry, but as a broadcaster, if I choose to tell my audience that, that is my business. Putting that on the schedule, absolutely not. I would leave that station in a heartbeat. Fellow broadcasters, and listeners, what are your thoughts? I’ve been doing this now for nearly 16 years both as a broadcaster and a station manager/owner, and I’ve worked with a variety of blind, sighted, and folks who are somewhere in between. Never on any station I’ve run have we even thought about the idea of indicating that a broadcaster is blind or otherwise disabled on the schedule. That is… Really special. Even when I was on hard rock radio, and was the only blind broadcaster, I don’t think anybody else on staff besides me and the owner of the station new or cared. I’m sorry, that just sounds weird to me.

It takes a lot to shake me but this abduction of Rumeysa Ozturk, a Ph.D. student and Fulbright scholar at Tufts is bone-chilling.

Plainclothes, masked agents bundle her into an unmarked car.
apnews.com/video/turkish-stude…

It appears her thought crime was co-authoring op-ed in the Tufts newspaper, asking the university to take action in opposition to Israeli war crimes.

She's been whisked off from Massachusetts to Louisiana.

This is the new America.

This months Reaper Made Easy meet-up happens this Saturday, March 29th, at the slightly irregular time of 3PM Eastern and 7PM UK.
The change in time is of course due to the very evil Daylight savings time changing on different dates in different time-zones. So this is just a heads up for those who live where the clock has not changed to summer time yet. Such as the UK.

I so wish they'd stop doing that. Aaarg.

With that frustrated growl out of the way, Saturday. Scott and JennyK will be live, helping as much as we are able for a couple of hours. It's all about using Reaper, Osara, and how we go about this accessibly. Beginner questions take priority in these streams so don't hesitate to ask.
If you have a question, chances are others have that very same question in their head as well. It's a win win win to bring it to us. We all learn together here.

All you need to know about connecting with us via TeamTalk or listen in by other means can be found on reaperteacher.com.
and do hit the upload button on that site and send us something to listen to during the stream. We try to give a bit of feedback and troubleshooting if that is something you'd like. We all learn and have a bit of a chaotic few hours of fun on these meet-ups so do join.

There will be a reminder before go-time on Saturday.

See you there.

Jen

In the last commits in gitlab.gnome.org/jrb/libipuz/-… I'm doing this hack:

- get a json-glib JsonNode from the caller
- reserialize to a string
- pass the string to Rust code
- deserialize with serde
- spit back out an IpuzStyle to the C code

And this seems to be a nice, temporary way of moving libipuz's JSON code gradually to Rust.

Um... What was that? I was just sitting at my computer, not touching it, when MS Edge opened. It didn't just open, it opened to some sort of ad. I closed it as soon as I realized, so didn't catch the page title or URL. I had Firefox open at the time, to a Ubuntu Mate forum page. Did Windows 11 launch an ad, or did I brush some notification with the trackpad that launched the ad without me realizing? Either way, it's yet another reason I want to find a Linux distro that actually works well for me

Hey, journalists! Could we stop calling the current admin's bad opsec a "Signal breach"? Signal wasn't breached, a human screwed up. This is still bad, but it's bad because of that human, not Signal itself which remains an important tool for maintaining the privacy and security of communications that you actually send to the right people. Let's not scare people away from good habits with poorly worded headlines.

An off-cycle Synapse security release is out to address a High severity vulnerability (CVE-2025-30355 / github.com/element-hq/synapse/…). The issue can disrupt federation and is being exploited in the wild - please upgrade as soon as possible!

Questrial, designed by Joe Prince and Laura Meseguer

During colonial times, European colonial powers in Africa made their languages the official ones. Many African languages still lack typographic support, making it hard to write them correctly due to missing letters and diacritics in most fonts.
In post-colonial times and to address the lack of open source fonts for African languages, @googlefonts gave me the task of expanding Questrial for that purpose
