If you develop user-facing applications at all, I highly recommend that you watch Tantacrul's story on how Finale's lack of usability killed it. youtube.com/watch?v=Yqaon6YHza…

"It’s the latest move by Trump and his administration to utilize federal powers to control or hamstring institutions whose actions or viewpoints he disagrees with. Since taking office, Trump has ousted leaders, placed staff on administrative leave and cut off hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to artists, libraries, museums, theaters and others, through takeovers of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities."

American Geophysical Union (#AGU) and the American Meteorological Society Say They’ll Keep Working on #US #NationalClimateAssessment
The organizations said they would publish researchers’ work even after Trump administration decision to dismiss all authors on the project.
The new effort would not replace the federal report, which is Congressionally mandated, the statement from AGU and American Meteorological Society said.

“Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, thousands of high school students in Oklahoma will be required to learn about President Trump’s debunked claims that the 2020 election was tainted by fraud,” Popular Information reports.

I was happy to attend #DrupalCamp Ottawa today. Lots of great people I was happy to see.

I also presented about #DrupalCMS & #AI highlighting how it can support better #AltText and & #PlainLanguage

It was also exciting to see so many new people join!

Every time I take self-driving car, the experience seems to get better and better. Today, for the first time, I was able to locate the car on my own. The phone would vibrate and VoiceOver would announce the distance and the derection of the car in relation to me. As you approach the car, you can press the button in the app to honk! :) Really cool! Hard to believe how far this tech has gone! :)

If there's any overlap at all between my followers and the kind of science fiction fan who will be attending Worldcon in Seattle (@seattlein2025) or just follows what's going on in that scene, then I beg you, please go easy on the Worldcon organizers. There's apparently some controversy around them deciding to use ChatGPT to vet possible panelists. Their statement on that is here: seattlein2025.org/2025/04/30/s… I'm not into SF conventions, but one of my favorite SF authors posted about this. 1/?

Hey, #fediverse experts: I have a question. On my blog, I embed comments from the #fediverse. I also link to the comment thread on my instance. However, nobody else is using my instance. Is there a service where I can pass it a URL to a note, and it will ask the user what instance they use, then direct there instance to go get that note so they can respond? It currently looks like this, comments at the bottom; I'd like to replace the "this post on the fediverse" link with some way for users to pick their instance: stuff.interfree.ca/2025/05/02/sleep-solutions.html

Correct. I’m using Eleventy without any ActivityPub integration at the moment, but even though these aren’t direct ties to the Fediverse, TeaHouse aims to make static sites easy to use for non-technical people. I linked it at the end but BearBlog, fully managed and 95% accessible, could be adapted to work with the Fediverse, including allowing for Fediverse comments. I thought MicroBlog is very integrated with the Fedi though, even allowing comments from BlueSky and Mastodon natively? You can check out Teahouse at teahouse.cafe/product.html

@WeirdWriter@FediTips Correct. No custom themes, no activity pub, and no use of mobile apps. To add in the activity pub stuff you have to go to the five bucks a month plan. If you also want to use the mobile apps and have email newsletters, now it's ten bucks a month. Considering you can get a VPS that can host a static blog for eight bucks a month, or do it free on places like freeshell or github pages, that seems a bit much.

@FediTips@homegrown If it helps, I'm using a modified version of this library to pull the comments, with enhancements for screen reader accessibility, and changes to work with IceShrimp.NET instead of Mastodon: github.com/UppaJung/fediverse-comments
in reply to Fedi.Tips 🎄

@FediTips Whenever I make a blog post, I post a link to it on the fediverse from this account. Then I pull any replies to the fediverse post I made as comments on my blog. So to make a comment, people need to make a reply to my fediverse post about it. Then it will show up in the fediverse thread and as a comment under the blog article. For example: stuff.interfree.ca/2025/04/30/call-of-fate-a-tour.html is pulling comments from: fed.interfree.ca/notes/a77rsl3x59d4y00j

Call of Fate: A Tour De Force in culturally accepted tropes: Call of Fate is a Chinese #audiogame released on Android and IOS by Prudence Interactive, intended to be #accessible to both #blind and sighted players.
