Every time I take self-driving car, the experience seems to get better and better. Today, for the first time, I was able to locate the car on my own. The phone would vibrate and VoiceOver would announce the distance and the derection of the car in relation to me. As you approach the car, you can press the button in the app to honk! :) Really cool! Hard to believe how far this tech has gone! :)
@FreakyFwoof That's awesome! In my experience, the phone would tel me the car is a number of feet behind when it would be in front of me. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement over most ridesharing services people are used to. But yeah, the experience over all is magic!

I wouldn't bet on it. We live in an age where it's easier than ever to pull the trigger on a judgement call based on overly emotional prior art and misinformation, with the added bonus that indiscriminately judging people for using AI provides a brief distraction from doomscrolling while making people feel righteous.

Hey, #fediverse experts: I have a question. On my blog, I embed comments from the #fediverse. I also link to the comment thread on my instance. However, nobody else is using my instance. Is there a service where I can pass it a URL to a note, and it will ask the user what instance they use, then direct there instance to go get that note so they can respond? It currently looks like this, comments at the bottom; I'd like to replace the "this post on the fediverse" link with some way for users to pick their instance: stuff.interfree.ca/2025/05/02/sleep-solutions.html
@thenexusofprivacy Yup. Right now someone who stumbled on one of my posts later would have a hard time commenting. They'd have to have a fediverse account, and know how to search for a post by URL on that service. I really really don't want to run and moderate my own comment system, though. I'm thinking maybe the solution would be to create some kind of account on my instance (webanon@fed.interfree.ca or something) and then build a form that uses that account to submit replies to the thread from web commenters. But I'd have to figure out how to keep the spammers from filling out the form, and now I'm back into captchas and everything else that makes me not want to run my own comments system.
@FediTips@homegrown Thanks! I love using the fediverse as my commenting system. It just makes it hard for people who don't follow me directly to participate, and I'd love a way to solve that problem.
@FediTips@homegrown Also, none of those systems offer perfect screen reader accessibility for writing posts and modifying design and layout. They all have one or more issues, and at least one task a blind person can't complete without help.
@FediTips More accessible to me, anyway. It requires writing markdown in a text editor and running a powershell script on the command line. I'm not sure I would distribute it to others, as it's a bit specialized to my own needs and preferences.
@FediTips If other blind folks approach you to ask about accessible blogging, micro.blog is the best generic solution I've found that doesn't require technical expertise. Unfortunately it's paid. I think @WeirdWriter is using Hugo or Eleventy or something.
Correct. I’m using Eleventy without any ActivityPub integration at the moment, but even though these aren’t direct ties to the Fediverse, TeaHouse aims to make static sites easy to use for non-technical people. I linked it at the end but BearBlog, fully managed and 95% accessible, could be adapted to work with the Fediverse, including allowing for Fediverse comments. I thought MicroBlog is very integrated with the Fedi though, even allowing comments from BlueSky and Mastodon natively? You can check out Teahouse at teahouse.cafe/product.html

The source isn't obfuscated, so looking at the HTML of an article page on stuff.interfree.ca should show you what to do. In short, include some JavaScript in the header and a div in the body.

@WeirdWriter@FediTips Correct. No custom themes, no activity pub, and no use of mobile apps. To add in the activity pub stuff you have to go to the five bucks a month plan. If you also want to use the mobile apps and have email newsletters, now it's ten bucks a month. Considering you can get a VPS that can host a static blog for eight bucks a month, or do it free on places like freeshell or github pages, that seems a bit much.

@FediTips@homegrown Here's hoping! There are already "share to mastodon" links that let users pick there instance. We just need a "view on mastodon" service that does the same thing with Mastodon posts so people can easily reply when given a link to a post.
@FediTips Whenever I make a blog post, I post a link to it on the fediverse from this account. Then I pull any replies to the fediverse post I made as comments on my blog. So to make a comment, people need to make a reply to my fediverse post about it. Then it will show up in the fediverse thread and as a comment under the blog article. For example: stuff.interfree.ca/2025/04/30/call-of-fate-a-tour.html is pulling comments from: fed.interfree.ca/notes/a77rsl3x59d4y00j
