Is there any web based chess game that has bots, teaching tools and is fully screen reader accessible; i.e. allows you to move around the board with cursor keys, rather than just speaking notation? Basically WinBoard but web based. #accessibility

@clv0 I read about and saw a YouTube video about that. I got the impression it only spoke notation though and you had to enter moves using notation rather than being able to curse around the board. Notation works well if you have a tactile board or can visualize it in your head, but I am very much a beginner so that isn’t possible. am I incorrect and this does actually support cursoring?
After you have created and started to play a game, it is possible to choose a table layout for the board that's on the screen during the game; search for layout. then you can walk through the board using the standard control-alt-arrows.
@vick21 Looks like lichess.org already has a screen reader mode which does all of this. I thought it only did notation, but it also supports arrow key navigation.

The devs seem to care and the project is entirely open source, so one could presumably get somewhere by opening a Github issue and indicating interest.
@miki @vick21 Be curious what you find. The tutorials gave me trouble as well and while there are apps on iOS/Android that sorta kinda work, I've found nothing thus far that works all that well. One might argue that having the spatiality of a touch screen might actually be helpful in "visualizing" the board, but I'm not sure how fiddly that would get
lichess is it accessible you have to turn on the screen reader mode from the top of the page. I think It is also open source so if you find something broken, you could help fix it. I use it a lot to play all kinds of games, including tournaments and find it completely accessible.

oof: trying to install @thunderbird from flathub on arm64 tries to pull in the GNOME 3.28 (!!) platform because it's not the "Built 9 days ago" you see on the web page – that's built from a script with hardcoded x86_64 stuff >_< and, uh, non-ESR is default now but it's still ESR-only on flathub!

@thunderbird I just wanted to report that that I'm getting this error when trying to export an offline calendar as a Web Page (HTML) on Thunderbird 139.0.2.
To get around the issue I had to install Thunderbird 128.11.1esr.

I thought it would be great to have #PiHole, but accessible from anywhere. And then I came across #AdGuard Home and deployed on my public server. It's open source, all the data stays on the server, it just downloads the filter updates. It has a nice dashboard and from our network it's as fast as #Cloudflare or Google #DNS.

Napsal jsem pro @ohlasy jednoduchého novinového LLM chatbota do Slacku, GPT 4.1 nad korpusem zhruba dvou tisíc našich článků (github.com/Ohlasy/boskobot). Říkal jsem si, že když bude vypadat užitečně, mohli bychom ho nabídnout veřejně našemu publiku. Zatím je s ním velká prča, ale na část běžných dotazů dobře pokrytých existujícími texty odpovídá velmi přesvědčivě špatně. Je možný, že dělám něco špatně já nebo že ta technologie dozraje, ale zatím je pro nás pro tenhle use case spíš nepoužitelná.
Jak to s tim GPT 4.1 delas? Sam o sobe ma male kontextove okno (na ten use-case) a nejaky vyhledavaci agent se muze dost prodrazit. To co v zasade potrebujes je mit seznam vsech clanku se strukturovanym obsahem, nejprv se GPT zeptat jake clanky si chce precist, ty mu fetchnout a pak z toho teprv hledat odpoved (a kdyz ji nenajde, tak fetchnout vic clanku).

Ten RAG se uz dneska nepouziva => neni to rozvijene => meh. Taky jsem to kdysi zkousel (lol, kdysi). Problem je vektorizace tech dat, aby se to veslo do kontextu.
Dneska je lepsi napsat agenta, ktery realne vyhledava (jako grep) a k tomu mit prave ty obsahy clanku, ktere navadi agenta kam jit.
V zasade mas 128k tokenu kontext. 40k napalis promptem a navigaci. 40k jsou fetchnute clanky a grep snippety. A 40k si budujes kontext pro odpoved (realne veci z clanku).
Ta technologie te nemuze pripravit o praci, protoze te zamestnava nekdo, kdo ji nepouziva a nerozumi. Ten pokrok je fakt rychlej a neni to ani tak o aplikacich, ale fakt podkladovych modelech a jejich cene. Je realna sance, ze se dostaneme do bodu, kde beznou koderskou praci udela kombinace pouceneho PM + AI nebo full-time clovek-vyvojar za srovnatelne naklady ve stejne kvalite.
@mwenisch Tohle právě slýcháme už roky (!) a zatím jsme reálně v bodě, kdy bez účasti kvalifikovaných programátorů vznikají tak maximálně neudržovatelné prototypy.

is it crazy, though? Since we officially started developing Stalwart on September 4th, 2021, we've come a long way in establishing a powerful and versatile open-source mail and collaboration server.
Today saw the introduction of something ntruly worthy of celebration: a modern, 64bit, truly responsive formant-neural sapi voice for Windows. Today also saw the introduction of a recording that is based around the fact that that demo of the voice does actually downsample after a minute of audio. However, it does not do the impending craziness that I put it through before activating the license.
@matt There's an audiogames.net forum thread about it. Part of it is VITS, but he changed it up to output high-res formant parameters instead of trying to go to audio directly, and had some kind of custom klatt implementation that it was being driven by. This, of course, necessitated training them entirely from scratch, but the formant output was used as the feedback. I think he said the data he had though was unfortunately data he had commissioned for statistical parametric synthesis (HTS) so it doesn't have as high inflection as one might want, because HTS really doesn't like it.
Thanks so much for posting about this, I've been in contact with Philip over the last year, and the work he's doing in the TTS space is really something special.
@FreakyFwoof Two hybrid neural-formant voices, Richard and Libby. The voices are neural yet built around a formant architecture, so are near-formant-level responsive and controllable, I.E. with speech rate moddability that doesn't suffer the traditional limitations of natural voices of today, while bringing modern quality to them. And, at long last, some actually good, check that, damn good, 64bit sapi voices with no persistent drm. blastbay.com/voices.php
@FreakyFwoof And the responsiveness is pretty incredible. I think it's sub20ms, which we haven't seen from a SAPI voice in quite some time. it works well especially well with NVDA given the latest update's improvements to the sapi responsiveness
@FreakyFwoof They sound good! As luck would have it, they've been released the very same day I've accidentally hosed NVDA communicating with Sapi5 here. Oops. Probably gonna purchase these once that's fixed.
@Scott @FreakyFwoof Get in touch with Blastbay, Philipp is usually pretty responsive. I figure they are really performant and all, but there is a certain tone in those voices that just doesn't feel good to me. I can't listen to them for a long time i'm afraid.

Dectalk's situation is too ambiguous to be an all-purpose solutions. Espeak's GPL-ness...
@bermudianbrit @Scott @ToniBarth @FreakyFwoof Yeah, the situation around embeddable voices is really not that great. Cerrence Vocalizer is probably the best thing that exists right now. That or Acapela, which is getting out of the AT / on-device business AFAIK. SVox Pico is technically fully OSS and permissively licensed, but that's only the "inference" code. The voice preparation stuff is either provided as proprietary exes or missing entirely, the documentation around voice training is not that great either.

Although the only one that's guaranteed on-device at this point is HW, as AAC software can go cloud-native if it wants to. And I"m pretty sure they're doing just enough to kee ptheir embedded library alive, and that's about it.

@jcsteh @FreakyFwoof For long strings and some interruptions I can feel a difference between this and OneCore, with OneCore winning speed-wise. Not by a huge amount here, but it's a thing. Shorter strings like OSARA reports, moving around most dialogs etc, they feel super close on my machine. A lot faster than the neural stuff I've been using via... er... methods. For now that's the main thing. I can use one of these on stream and point people at a legit source if they like them/want to get them.
@Scott @FreakyFwoof Good for streaming for sure. I think that responsiveness would drive me wild in daily usage, but I'm mindful that I'm an efficiency nut, so I'm not representative of most people.
@FreakyFwoof @Scott The thing that blows my mind is that NVDA's recent SAPI5 responsiveness improvements come down to only two things: switching to WASAPI (assuming SAPI5 didn't already use WASAPI itself); and stripping silence from the start of utterances. I'm guessing it's mostly the silence stripping that gives the responsiveness boost here. Which raises the question: why the hell do so many synths append useless silence to the start of utterances? That just seems like deliberate self-sabotage.
@vick21 @FreakyFwoof @Scott Just tabbing around in the NVDA Voice settings dialog. It just felt sluggish to me in responsiveness compared to OneCore. Measuring scientifically would require all sorts of set-up I'm not quite willing to do right now. :) Obviously I'm not going to compare with eSpeak; that's an unfair comparison. Note that I have rate for both set fairly high.

@Lazarus Thanks for the nudge! It looks like we have this in our triage system and have some useful resources. Tracking this issue is probably the best way of getting updates, especially to find out when this gets added to the roadmap. While our 2025 roadmap has already been made, making the Android app able to be used by more people is still really high on our priority list!
