I feel like a lot of this song, apart from the overtly religious stuff that really starts in the bridge, expresses a common sentiment of reactionaries of all types. Some of it even echoes feelings about the runaway complexity of software that we see so much in online discourse.

Note: The final line of the chorus is "bound for Babel on a runaway train", referencing the Tower of Babel story in Genesis. But Ted Chiang's short story Tower of Babylon gave me a fresh perspective; in his story, the tower is a marvel of engineering that gives people a new perspective on their world. I think these days, we need more optimism that we can build up great things.

Text was never hard to read on 8-bit systems. A single character, generally 8x8, was a large enough portion of the screen to remain legible at distance (ie TV).
The textmode ratio of 40 or 80 chars wide by 25 chars high is a standard on MANY microcomputers and terminals. On terminals, this ratio exists today.
Consider making your text at least this large. Tiny text is really, really shitty.

ChatGPT is fuelled by our intimate online histories. It’s trained on 300 billion words, yet users have no way of knowing which of their data it contains.
This is not really possible with current technology, just as it isn’t possible to force a human stalker to forget that you ever existed, even though we might wish that it was. GPT-like models are more human than machine in that aspect.
@miki Once the GDPR is enforced on an LLM for violating the core principles of the law these tools will be necessarily updated to accommodate the requirements of #DataRights. It will take time but it is inevitable. In the meantime, these systems are unlawful, in my view.
If anything, it’s probably the law that will need to be updated. I can’t see how this kind of updates could be actually handled. Sure, you could remove all training data containing a given combination of name and surname, or even block all such prompts, but the former is a multi-million dollar ordeal, and the latter could be circumvented.
The best way to do it would probably be to remove every piece of text that contains the name and surname of the people who wish to be removed, but that would require a full retraining of the model each month, which costs literal millions of dollars. That approach carries its own set of dangers, E.G. what if a man actually named Harry Potter wants their data to be deleted.
@miki Data privacy regulatory action and litigation takes many years. Cambridge Analytica began in 2014 and is only just now finally resolved. I fully expect LLM’s to trigger a massive GDPR litigation. If firms aren’t hit with 4% revenue fines, they’ll be hit with the cost of making systems legally compliant. Smart operators will get ahead of this. GDPR ain’t getting changed anytime soon.
That is a problem for the companies not the law, though. "My company cannot operate without breaking the law" is not a winning argument in any country. AI art companies are already being sued for copyright infringement. GDPR lawsuits will follow soon enough.

podobnou věc jsem nakonec vyřešil přes Synology NAS a jsem maximálně spokojen. Právě aplikace Photos je super náhradou Google Photos. Vše na vlastním disku s pravidelnou zálohou na onedrive. Samozřejmostí jsou zálohy z mobilních fotek a aplikace na telefon.
jo. Mě to opravdu vyřešilo trápení jak dál s fotkami. Každý uživatel má své osobní fotky kam se dá zálohovat telefon. A pak jsou tu sdílené pro všechny, kde už třídím od složek jednotlivé události.

GoToSocial, el software que corro en la mía, sí que tiene prevista la publicación de toots solo locales. La verdad es que no tengo una posición sobre el tema. Hay pros y contras. Va contra la idea de federación. Pero es cierto que está bien para mensajes de administración, aunque otra opción es una cuenta de admin y mensajes solo a seguidores.
Si es una cuenta específica de administración, y tienes el seguimiento cerrado, puedes controlar que solo te sigan usuarios de la instancia, y ya que solo son mensajes de administración nadie se puede rebotar por tener que seguirla.

At the moment, when you press delete on a Twitter DM (an individual message or conversation) the DM isn't actually deleted from Twitter's servers, just your inbox view.
So people in Europe have been making requests for Twitter to blitz all their messages. It hasn't properly answered them. And now regulators are looking at it

I'm reminded of someone some years ago who requested their data from Spotify, and had to do back-and-forthing to then finally get what he wanted. And what he got was very detailed about him. Pretty sure much more detailed than what Spotify would usually give to its users requesting their data.
