I get that it's a niche program, but it's pretty cool. When I was teaching math overseas several years ago, only LibreOffice was able to write the equations I needed for tests. You folks made it easy and it looked professional, too.

Signal has long said it'd "rather shut down or leave a market" than add a backdoor or weaken its encryption.
Apple also had this option when it was ordered by the UK government to build an iCloud backdoor. Apple could have said — without violating secrecy laws — why it was leaving the UK, rather than weaken the security of all of its UK customers.
Instead, Apple capitulated to the demand to keep operating, and prioritized its profits over its customers' security.

While only semi-related to your post, I just read up on the "Sentry Mode" on this thing which sent me down a rabbit hole of security nightmares. The ways in which these vehicles violate privacy, not just of the owners, but of random people just walking by them is both astounding and horrifying.
Also sentry mode drains the battery quickly and only works if the battery is over 20%, which I'm definitely not sharing for reasons related to this post. Definitely not.
Today's victory over enshittification:
I mainly bought my new Google TV Streamer device to listen to audio-only content. So imagine my disappointment when it only worked for 10 minutes. Video worked fine, as did Spotify somehow. Auto-shutdown was set to an hour, and the ambient mode app was disabled. Audio playback just stopped and turned off the receiver and TV entirely, and I exchanged enough connections to know the streamer was the initiator.
The fix, apparently, is to enable developer mode, go into the developer mode settings, check the option to keep the screen awake, then audio-only content like Antennapod works. I guess audio-only apps don't keep the screen alive which, in turn, sends CEC to kill everything else. Hoping auto-shutdown takes over when I stop streaming so this isn't too wasteful.
What an absolute crock. I shouldn't need to be an Android developer to figure this shit out.

About your stance of third party repos.
Even if this would not be allowed for end users, documentation on how to change the default hardcoded repository to our own before recompiling accrescent and how to generate the metadata for a selfhosted repo would be important imho
@eskuero We appreciate you mentioning this. Unfortunately, we don't currently have the capacity to develop and maintain official documentation for how to run Accrescent independently. It would also be very difficult for a third party to keep up with running Accrescent right now since the backend is constantly changing and often requires manual intervention to update which requires special knowledge of how Accrescent works.
We may consider supporting documentation once Accrescent is more stable.
@light @eskuero It would be complex to allow adding pinned certificates since that wouldn't be using the standard Android network security configuration. But the TLS certificate pinning concern is currently obsolete since Accrescent doesn't have TLS certificate pinning since version 0.19.0.
Accrescent could have a management feature like that. However, that doesn't resolve some of the other issues with third-party repositories not listed on the website. For example, unattended updates aren't guaranteed if the store doesn't enforce a sufficiently high minimum target SDK. It's also not Accrescent's goal to be a generic app installer for any source, but instead an independent app store.
That section of the website is outdated and should be updated to reflect the above.

Edit 3: Still holding up pretty well, even with how hard y'all are trying! This is a little Beelink mini PC I got for $12 when Amazon sent me the wrong item and wanted me to pay to send it back, hosted on a home fiber connection. The jump in processor power really cut Sharkey's response times and lets my reverse proxy Traefik keep up way better. I think it was HTTPS on a 12+ year old Intel desktop chip that was really doing it in.
