yeah #curl has just 16 open issues. I'm a firm believer in not having a lot of open issues so we in fact never do. We work really hard on that. A project philosophy.
@ainali it's just something I live by. Issues that go stale and nobody works on them just end up hiding the real and important problems so we either fix them or we document them separately as "known bugs" because nobody works on them anyway.
This way we all know that the existing issues are *real* issues.
@wolf480pl @ainali the issue tracker is the active current bugs that someone cares about. There are also stale old bugs no one bothers about and they are in the known bugs document.
@ainali hmm so if I find out that a bug noone looked at for 2 years affects me, I'll search for its symptoms, find it in the old bugs document, and be able to read known workarounds discovered be other people before... but if I wanted to add information or describe a usecase in which the bug is a big deal, I'd have to open a new issue?
@wolf480pl @ainali pretty much, yes. Chances are also that your current take and experience of the problem is now slightly different than it was two years ago so a new issue with updated details and conditions is useful.
@ainali @wolf480pl we add features using pull-requests. People asking for features should be closed, converted to a PR or end up an entry in the TODO list.
@ainali @wolf480pl no. We don't have "few things to do", we just move away issues that don't move and nobody cares about into a separate list. The issues is then the true and living issues and people don't get lost among all the idle ones.
Every project has such idle issues, some just chose to let them linger in the primary issue tracker. I find that messy.
@ainali @wolf480pl having and adding ideas is just so easy and we drown in "good ideas". Making ideas turn reality is what's hard and takes work. I often resist adding ideas for that reason.

I was cleaning out my desk, and I found a mystery thing. It's a thing that generates numbers, probably as two factor codes. But I have no idea what the codes are for, where I got the thing, who made the thing, or if I can somehow reset the thing or do anything else with it. Based on where I found it, the thing has to be at least four years old, if not older. Being a blind person, I of course recorded the thing. Do you have any advice about what I could do with my mysterious thing other than throwing it out?
@cachondo I only have had two bank accounts in my entire life, though, and neither of them use it. I mean it's obviously giving me a code for...some useful purpose. I just have no idea what that purpose was.
Yeah its super frustrating isn't it? My device did something similar and there was no way to reset it other than getting a new one. The devices given out to sighted people were tiny in comparison and had non replaceable batteries. When my device expired in 2019 I got it replaced with a phone token as it was the right thing to do. If I remember correctly the token comes from the factory with a specific shelf life of 5 years.
I used to have a device very similar to this for a job. It was a SecureID token generator from either RSA or SafeNet. The end of life means that the codes are probably useless at the remote end and the only thing you can do is throw the device away. I'm not sure whether its still fashionable to give out these hardware tokens, I haven't had one now since 2019, everything being done on my smartphone.

I'm just one guy, nobody else seemed riled-up! I guess it's just been a long day of me trying to explain to colleagues that the AI isn't coming for my job and if it does, they'll need me back pretty quickly LOL.
@cachondo Actually, it's not, I use GitHub Copilot extensively and it helps me with lots of boilerplate code. I wish it was smarter though, but I'm sure it will come. I do have one small problem with it though for some reason: when it says "Next edit suggestion", it doesn't tell me the whole code of the next suggestion, unlike with the first suggestion it has. I'd like to see where its development goes, actually.
@menelion oh I'm not objecting to it in the least! I use it, too. It was just the framing of the title that pulled my string. we're already seen as so helpless as blind people, the cruch-level input of the LLM was my problem, not in any way its promotion per se.
@cachondo @menelion As someone who is nobody's idea of a programmer, I don't use copilot admittedly but I do use AI in-general to help me with bash scripting etc. Two of the most useful are running on my Raspberry Pi's and though searching for code snippets could have aided me I suspect, having an AI write the code out for my specific usecase meant that I could look at each line and understand why something does what it does. There is legitimately a lot of AI hate but on the other side of the coin, a lot of good uses for it. Tailor-made scripts which might be childsplay for some of you, aren't things I think about or know how to do, so AI has been super-useful in making my wishes a reality. Nothing overcomplicated or anything, but useful none the less.
@vick21 @cachondo @menelion I have two of them. One does NVDA remote, PiHole for adblocking and runs the mics for my outside stream in the garden, the second one runs a VPN server, a secondary PiHole server, Homebridge and a TV server.
