Elon rant
A small business complaining about Apple's 30% cut? Totally on board with that.
Elon Musk protesting Apple's 30% cut? Goodness, how ever will he afford to pay for that? It just makes him look like more of a whiny, petulant, entitled jerk than he already does.

Sure, let's just go ahead and delete all the data about beneficial owners of companies in the EU. What could go wrong? Seriously, WTAF, Europe?

ft.com/content/e4b31a4e-a79d-4…

European countries have begun taking down public registers of who owns their companies in the wake of a shock court ruling that campaigners have condemned as a major step backwards in the fight for corporate transparency and against economic crime.

Luxembourg and the Netherlands on Wednesday closed their public beneficial ownership registers, which show the ultimate owners of their companies, following the ruling from the Court of Justice of the European Union, which invalidated public access.

Its judgment found that “the general public’s access to information on beneficial ownership constitutes a serious interference with the fundamental rights to respect for private life and to the protection of personal data”, according to a press release from the court.

Promising work on resolving a Firefox bug where `<th>`s with CSS `flex` and `grid` are exposed as cells, not headers:
bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.…

When that deploys it will leave Safari ≤16.1 as the last browser that breaks tables using CSS display properties.

in reply to Adrian Roselli, pH0

And yes, this is the kind of stuff I track because it’s late-2022 and browsers (mostly Safari) still break accessibility via CSS display properties:

Hot-take think pieces on how "bad" fedi is by people who joined a week ago remind me of this seminal article of deep insight:

Children, Self Harm, Suicide

I saw this video and aside from it being more than heartbreaking, and more than depressing, it made me think. all the new #fedi22 people I've been following have been adults But that's obvious based on who I am and follow. Has anyone seen any uptick in teenagers switching from mainstream socials to the fediverse?

Of course a different question is if and how they *should* be on social media, but that's beyond the scope of this discussion.

Children, Self Harm, Suicide
@OpenComputeDesign I am also one of the fediverse's young members (19 now, 15 when I joined). I know a few (basically my friends, some of whom are a little younger than me), but we're all tech / FOSS nerds, so aren't really representative of the wider teenaged population. That's why this interests me.
in reply to Michael Connor Buchan

Children, Self Harm, Suicide
that's also why I'm keeping whether teens should be on socials at all out of this. For me it has been a life changing experience, and first YouTube, now the fediverse and the wider internet, have lead me down the path to FOSS, programming, sys-admin, and made me countless invaluable friends along the way. But for whatever reason, I've never once contemplated anything like self-harming, and I know my story is very different to a lot of others' experiences

Ever wished it was easier to view posts or profiles from another Mastodon instance on *your* instance, without any manual copy & paste?

I made Masto-Redirect, a shortcut that can redirect both account pages and individual posts to your own Mastodon instance.

Takes 1 minute to set up, can run on all Apple platforms. Free to download. Hope you'll find this useful: macstories.net/ios/masto-redir…

We've just posted our November 2022 Progress Report along with a bunch of big package, installer, and OS image updates!

One of the things I do for a living is reviewing gadgets. Right now I've reviewed the Xiaomi Notebook Pro 120G, which is a powerful compact laptop with a pro-grade screen and a couple of suprises up its sleeve. Do have a look in case you're in the market for a laptop. And I'd be grateful if you could Boost for reach!

Tripple-tapping the back of my iPhone opens the wonderful box where I'm writing this very post just because it can. That leaves the necessity for two things from iOS 6 times behind: Twitter and jailbreaking. Now all that is left is posting my fingers and heart away. routinehub.co/shortcut/649/

Does somebody know what happend with #Linux #GTK app #Tootle github.com/bleakgrey/tootle by @bleakgrey The repo is archived and it has subsequently been removed from Flathub. It is currently my preferred Mastodon app for Desktop and Linux mobile.

phosh-osk-stub will soon be able to turn on completion opportunistically: When the text-input has the "completion" hint set it's turned on, otherwise it defaults to off. E.g. it's disabled in #chatty's search field but automatically switched on in the chat view :

in reply to Jean-Marc van Tol

wellicht zou het goed zijn om iets te horen van wat mensen met een (visuele) handicap daar zelf van vinden. Is bijv een omschrijving als "Cartoon over twee blinden die elkaar tegengekomen" helpend of maakt dat (weinig) uit? Of zelfs gewoon "Cartoon". Ik kan mijn ideeen daar wel over delen, maar vooral benieuwd hoe mensen met een visuele beperking dat zelf zien.
