Few of my friends decided to leave the Facebook and it's Messenger or Whatsapp apps. 👍 But they also decided to move to other proprietary and closed software like Signal.👎 Please if you make this brave decision, choose wisely. Something decentralized and open like #XMPP or #Matrix. 🙏 These are not apps, these are protocols witch many apps can use. You can than choose app you like. For example on Andorid there is Conversations or Snikket for xmpp, or Element for Matrix...

Yes. An open protocol and decentralised is the important bit. Whether clients are proprietary is less important. Remember, some email clients such as Outlook are proprietary, yet still email is open and not affected by some individuals choice.
When you're facing non-technical people, where do you point them when they ask "where do I sign up"? I have no reference of public, reliable XMPP servers.

@MestskyVlk Yep, I know. All these large companies started on opened standards and protocols. XMPP, iCal, RSS... That's why we liked them as early adopters and why we brought our friends to them. I used Pidgin to talk to my Facebook and GTalk friends in these old days... But when these companies grow enough, they always start to lock users in their ecosystem. 👎

@archos Protonmail ale brzy bude mít snad nějaké mosty do různých klientů. Jen nevím zda na mobily. Ony tyhle služby však smysl moc nemají. Mají povinnost ukládat IP adresy a se soudním příkazem i vydávat. 😀 Proto nedůvěřuji ani ProtonVPN a její skutečná anonymizace je diskutabilní.
To jo, ale těžko budu přemlouvat třeba provozovatele serverů ať mi posílají faktury a další na Threemu nebo Matrix 😀 Takhle je aspoň vše šifrováno i posílání e-mailů. Nemusí každý vědět co posílám a kdo mi píše.
Tak jasný pro soukromé věci ke lepší jiná aplikace, ale když používají oba příjemci emailu Gnupg šifrování, tak je to v pohodě. Rozšifrovat to jde jen v PC nebo v aplikaci.
@archos Problémem však je, že většina lidí nepoužívá šifrování, nepoužívá ani bezpečné aplikace a vše řeší skrze svinstvo od Mety a e-mail na Seznamu. 😀

@daniel @ClemensG wobei die Frage ist, ob es den Fingerabdruck wirklich *bräuchte* (definiere "brauchen" in diesem Zusammenhang). Ist es wirklich relevant, WER zugreift (Biometrie) – oder genügt es, dass "jemensch" zugreifen DARF (sicheres Passwort)? Für das WER wäre doch eher der User relevant. Ist es im Smartphone-Umfeld wichtig sicher zu stellen, welche Person mit welchem Konto interagiert? IMHO eher nicht.

@glaroc True, but that has a different purpose than this one. NVDA Remote is a standalone solution while this add-on adds support for remote protocols like Microsoft Remote Desktop, Citrix and VMware Horizon.
@bgtlover Yes. Data flows over a virtual channel in the remote desktop connection, not a separate channel that requires a server or opening a port like with NVDA Remote.
@pvagner I did make a windows vm, however the problem is that I don't remember enough windows stuff to get to the point where I start a remote desktop session, I keep reaching for a terminal that's not there.
Really grateful for the help of @twynn who got the add-on working with VMware Horizon, though it needs some polishing due to occational connection dropouts. Nonetheless, this is amazing!
@twynn Well, having a company device is usually better than VDI IMO, especially for blind people who need their screen reading software to work in these environments.
Oh for sure, and I look forward to it, but it's funny that your add-on started existing at the tail end of my VDI use. It means that stress-testing probably won't happen on my end, though even when I was using VDI, it was just for payroll purposes. Everything else I used external services which are available outside their intranet. Best practices it wasn't, but it definitely kept me more efficient.
