I wish that more FOSS / ethically licensed projects would be more forthright about asking for donations of help *outside tech stuff*.
There are plenty of people who value FOSS who have skills to contribute, be it legal, accounting, comms, marketing, graphic design, project management, and loads of other things, and plenty of projects which could benefit from some volunteering time in those areas.
Finding a match can be difficult, so seeing people asking for help is excellent.

Many computer mice have back/forward (previous/next) buttons to navigate history. Those are standardized buttons, as far as I understand. Those work fine in other GNOME apps...
I just spoke to one of those technicians whose career in radiology has them buried in a basement most of their working hours, locating and pumping out info and requests for vital information that changes people's lives for the better. @clv1 well, if you give me a few words that still sound off and can describe what about the word is sounding off to you even if in generic terms like, "the sound is too much done with a closed mouth" or "it's like the tongue is in the back of the throat" I can generally improve it based on feedback like that and compare to the Espeak phonetic data to isolate where you're hearing the wrong sound at for a fix.
Actually, at this stage, it's becoming hard to say exactly where is an issue. There are issues, but the general impression is a foreigner speaking Portuguese with a charged accent. the ideal would be a tool capable of transcribing speech to IPA, so I could send you speeches by other synths. In any case, later I will try describing some issues based on your suggestions.
@clv1 lol, yes! Hungarian has the same thing. It sort of sounds like an American speaking it with an accent, it's like, if that American knew all the sounds well but learned it later enough to have an accent. Hmm, interesting right? :D

For sure, it's seriously great software you put out recently, and you address all the feedback and bugs quickly, deserved I'd say. It has been a good impact to have some great new/modernised tools for stuff I use daily.
JAWS currently has a bug in it that makes Braille display users unable to properly read long lines in Paperback, or any application using wxWidgets, for that matter. When I tried to follow up on this issue three times with a Vispero contact who assured me it would be fixed in the December 2025 JAWS update, I got silence, so it's time to get louder. @Bri 10000000 percent fair. I will continue posting audio and testing this. I seem to have maybe figured out part of the issue? It has to do with audio file size. Any file under say 10mb uploads just fine. But a 12mb recording uploaded via JPR and mona refuses every time. NOt sure if that helps but there you go.
I think that unfortunately a lot of it is instance related and I wish I knew how to fix it because I'm tired of seeing everyone complaining about it and it's annoying me myself.

I just came across one that displayed as, and I quote, "Quoting $account.display_name$: 08:16:37," The time there is my own local time in 24-hour format, but I have my quoted post template set to not display that at all. No idea what's going on there.

I've been wondering about Bluesky's decentralization again. I can't think of any reason why I'd want to self-host Bluesky in its current form. I cannot 100% self host "my own Bluesky".
Their main selling points for building their own protocol were easier migration and better discoverability, but right now there's no simple way to migrate my Bluesky account to my own instance. And hosting the centralized parts yourself isn't really possible, or if it were, not affordable, they haven't made that feasible, by design, it seems.
Even if you self-host a PDS, Bluesky's Relay only indexes up to 10 accounts from it. You can run more, but they won't federate, the central infrastructure decides what gets seen. They control this (source: docs.bsky.app/blog/self-host-f….). You can self-host a PDS (Personal Data Server), but you still depend on Bluesky's centralized Relay and AppView. There's no production-ready alternative infrastructure from what I gather.

If Mastodon gGmbH vanishes tomorrow, my instance keeps running and federating with everyone else. If Bluesky PBC vanishes, the ecosystem would need to scramble to stand up replacement infrastructure that doesn't really exist yet.
ATProto keeps getting evaluated on its promises while other systems get evaluated on their merits. The "portability" selling point depends on infrastructure that isn't mature enough to actually catch you if Bluesky falls.

Wow, what an upset! In a shocking turn of events that no one saw coming, Firefox crashed randomly, then had an update to install when I started it back up again. Hey, Mozilla, it would be amazing if you could make it so my browser doesn't need to crash just to install an update. Or maybe it's something with NVDA. Who knows.
FireFox update procedure is weird anyway. At work another tool manages program updates, and sometimes when I want to open a new tab it just goes, FireFox has been updated in the background, you need to restart blah. Like how can it be so urgent, let me just open my tab and restart whenever I feel like it.
@sesivany I think you presented #fingerprint reader support in Fedora few years ago. How difficult would it be to have alternative PIN combination with fingerprint? I would like successful f.p. scan to change password box to pin input. But pin could be something 4-6 letters. Instead of letting me in right away, require me to type a lot shorter password. Sort of PIN windows has for local logins too. How difficult might it be? Are there known blockers? #PAM modules architecture maybe?
never tried it, but I think it could be doable in pam.d config. If you put there something like: auth required pam_unix.so nullok try_first_pass auth required pam_fprintd.so
But it's something you'd have to investigate. As I said I never tried it myself. I use password for the first login and then fingerprints for unlocking the lockscreen.
I got a bunch of battery-powered Zigbee-connected IR receivers/senders October last year, which were just sitting idly on my desk. This evening, I powered one up and learned it the IR commands to turn on/off my soundbar and my TV. Now I can automate my home a tiny bit more, basically binding my soundbar state to my TV state all the time and dropping the requirement of one additional remote. One step closer to making my Unfolded Circle Remote 3 my only remote of the house.
