Vanwaar komt die tech? Waarop getraind?

It's done. Now it’s your turn, Oracle.

We’ve submitted a formal petition to cancel the JavaScript trademark: it is generic, Oracle has abandoned it, and Oracle committed fraud on the USPTO during the last trademark renewal.

Oracle has until January 4th to respond, or the case will go into default, which will result in the trademark being canceled.

It's time to #FreeJavaScript.

I installed #Signal and #Conversations_im on a clean install of #GrapheneOS on my Pixel 4a and measured the battery impact. The results are shocking!

Both messengers had only one contact: my regular phone.

I used my regular phone to send messages to the Pixel 4a (which was not used for anything else over the course of the experiment).

I always sent the same message via Signal and #XMPP (mixing up which app went first). In total I sent ~32 messages in intervals of 10mins to a few hours.

A PSA for people active on #Bluesky: your block list is PUBLIC information.

A website that tracks Bluesky stats – which I am not naming here on purpose – makes this job super easy: you can enter *any* username and see the accounts a user has blocked.

(Yes I tested it with my account and was horrified)

I'm alarmed by this because the information could be weaponized for abuse.

Muting may be the safer choice then?

We began donating to @Blender 10 years ago. #B3D has improved so much since then and is now a primary tool for our small creative agency. They're asking for more support so we've increased our giving. Please take a moment to consider if you can give too: fund.blender.org/ 🧡 :blender:🧡

If you can't give, don't feel guilty. Those who can contribute for those who can't. 🤜 🤛

As talk, we'll be hearing from @notthebee who recently tinkered on using #NixOS to power his couch gaming PC.

For our anniversary, we're reserving more time for hacking, troubleshooting and networking than before, so feel free to bring your laptops, projects and #Nix problems with you! And even for complete beginners, this may be a great opportunity to learn from more experienced Nix users.

We have little in common with the group posting this video and I suspect most of you are not religiously inclined, but this is a shockingly good homily from a priest in #Florida, who denounced Trump's pick of Mike Huckabee for Ambassador to #Israel and demanded that the killing in #Gaza must stop. In a nutshell, #Catholic teaching holds that Jesus' kingdom is within us and not in some physical realm like Israel. youtube.com/watch?v=5maZ7HumgI…

For a limited time, you can sign up with Bookshare for only $60.00.
It’s worth noting that students in the United States with a qualifying print disability can receive services from Bookshare at no cost.
Also, some state libraries provide complementary subscriptions to patrons. It’s certainly worth reaching out either to your local NLS affiliate or to your
public library to ask if they offer this.
This is applicable to residents in the United States. I have not investigated pricing on subscriptions outside of the United States.

I wrote about why I confronted Rep Nancy Mace at the #ProjectLibertySummit: not to convince hateful bigots to stop hating, but to spark a conversation in the tech policy space about what our strategy is going into the next four years.

Will we cozy up to wannabe fascists in the name of "finding common ground"? Or will we build meaningful resistance to tech-enabled human rights abuses?

I'm curious what people in Australia think about this proposed law. I understand where the rationale is coming from, but it sounds like the same rhetoric you hear from conservative christians, etc. Not sure banning anything in this way is a good idea...

The fact that Microsoft would let someone have the root of the system drive as a Defender exclusion is pretty bad, and as it turns out, it can be used in Malware attacks, too, since there's no end-user warning of this bypass.

Thirty-five-year-old Porsha Ngumezi’s case raises questions about how abortion bans are pressuring doctors to avoid standard care even in straightforward miscarriages.

MalWareBytes is my security solution of choice and has been for several years. I use it along with Microsoft Defender.
They are offering generous discounts on their Standard, Plus and Ultimate packages.

@jonathan859 For the most part, MalwareBytes is accessible with screen readers. One very notable exception are their combo boxes, which are silent when you tab to them and so you might be deceived in thinking that you've tabbed into a blank area. However, when you press down arrow, you will be able to access all of the items contained in that combo box, pull-down menu or whatever it's supposed to be. I'm planning on locating someone from the company on LinkedIn that I can communicate this to, rather than going through standard support channels.

I’m looking forward to presenting this. If you know a sighted person who is interested in how screen readers do what they do and how to get started with them so they can assist blind people, send them along to this one. nfb.social/@nationsblind/11354…
