Slimme camera’s moeten geweld in Joodse buurt Antwerpen voorspellen

It's done. Now it’s your turn, Oracle.
We’ve submitted a formal petition to cancel the JavaScript trademark: it is generic, Oracle has abandoned it, and Oracle committed fraud on the USPTO during the last trademark renewal.
Oracle has until January 4th to respond, or the case will go into default, which will result in the trademark being canceled.
It's time to #FreeJavaScript.

HUAWEI has a crazy new way to transfer files: You literally grab them with your hand
There are loads of ways to transfer files from one phone to another device, but what about literally grabbing and dropping files?Hadlee Simons (Android Authority)
I installed #Signal and #Conversations_im on a clean install of #GrapheneOS on my Pixel 4a and measured the battery impact. The results are shocking!
Both messengers had only one contact: my regular phone.
I used my regular phone to send messages to the Pixel 4a (which was not used for anything else over the course of the experiment).
I always sent the same message via Signal and #XMPP (mixing up which app went first). In total I sent ~32 messages in intervals of 10mins to a few hours.

Similar observations here, though with Google Play Services notifications...
Switched to Molly in the UnifiedPush variant with ntfy as provider and it got way better!
No problem anymore at that front.

A PSA for people active on #Bluesky: your block list is PUBLIC information.
A website that tracks Bluesky stats – which I am not naming here on purpose – makes this job super easy: you can enter *any* username and see the accounts a user has blocked.
(Yes I tested it with my account and was horrified)
I'm alarmed by this because the information could be weaponized for abuse.
Muting may be the safer choice then?

We began donating to @Blender 10 years ago. #B3D has improved so much since then and is now a primary tool for our small creative agency. They're asking for more support so we've increased our giving. Please take a moment to consider if you can give too: fund.blender.org/ 🧡

Nix Your Bugs Anniversary
One year after our first Nix & Rust meetup, we are meeting again in Heidelberg for our first anniversary! 🎊 Note that for the first time, this meetup is only about Nix and NixOS, the declarative package manager and Linux distribution.rheinneckar.events
As talk, we'll be hearing from @notthebee who recently tinkered on using #NixOS to power his couch gaming PC.
For our anniversary, we're reserving more time for hacking, troubleshooting and networking than before, so feel free to bring your laptops, projects and #Nix problems with you! And even for complete beginners, this may be a great opportunity to learn from more experienced Nix users.

It’s worth noting that students in the United States with a qualifying print disability can receive services from Bookshare at no cost.
Also, some state libraries provide complementary subscriptions to patrons. It’s certainly worth reaching out either to your local NLS affiliate or to your
public library to ask if they offer this.
This is applicable to residents in the United States. I have not investigated pricing on subscriptions outside of the United States.

I wrote about why I confronted Rep Nancy Mace at the #ProjectLibertySummit: not to convince hateful bigots to stop hating, but to spark a conversation in the tech policy space about what our strategy is going into the next four years.
Will we cozy up to wannabe fascists in the name of "finding common ground"? Or will we build meaningful resistance to tech-enabled human rights abuses?
