Forbes is warning us that Android phones are under severe risk due to a kernel vulnerability:

...which informs us that "There are indications that CVE-2024-53104 may be under limited, targeted exploitation". The vulnerability in question, though, is CVE-2024-53104:

...which is in the uvcvideo camera driver. Either I'm missing something badly, or the only way to exploit this would be to plug a malicious camera device into the phone. I can see why they would want to fix this, but I'm not sure it's a red-alert situation for most of us?

Promised I'll be dropping in with examples of good #A11y in different countries and then I broke the promise. Coincidentally, I was asked to fill in a survey where one of the questions was about this very subject so I'll share one of the examples I gave there. In Austria, the qualified electronic signature is one of the state e-government services. A tool was built to allow screen reader users to insert their e-signature into any PDF document. The signature can be both visible and / or just a digital finger print, possible to verify through a qualifying verification tool. The visible signature can be inserted in one of three ways: 1. You place it right at the end of the document. If there's place enough, it should land in the line below the last one where there is content, otherwise, a new page is created. 2. The provider of the document can first place a QR code at a place in the document they choose, then the signee can replace this QR code with their own signature. 3. The provider of the document can determine coordinates in pixels where the signature should be placed and the signee enters them on their side to place the signature. pdf.egiz.gv.at/ #Accessibility #Austria #Blind

@luiscarlosgonzalez @rommix0 yeah, I guess that's true, my 2010 Macbook had a Geforce 9400, ha. So jumping from 9-series to a 40-series, well, massive evolution in tech. :D Back when I built my first desktop rig in high school, I included AMD Radion graphics, and SLI was huge back at the time too. Now SLI is no more, but I guess there's no practical need to link two GPUs together for consumers either.

Three people "nearly lost their lives" after relying on a tidal app, rescuers said.

They were cut off waist-deep in Silverdale, Lancashire, on Sunday after an app they used to check the tide levels showed information for an area with the same name in the United States.


That area, Morecambe Bay, has one of the highest and fastest-moving tidal flows on the planet. In the space of an hour the water can easily rise 5-6 metres. Given how cold it is at this time of year those people are extremely lucky that the rescuers got to them so quickly.

A plea to developers everywhere - your app could be used by people all round the world, don't make any assumptions about location, countries, time zones etc.
