Had this hilarious dream last night where somehow I was at some family gathering thing and my oldest brother [not good person] was like "doesn't anyone want to know what I'm doing now to support myself?" and I'm like "ok, sure, what's your job now"

So he starts explaining what he's doing and something about operating a table and I'm like "isn't that just waterboarding? you're waterboarding people?" and he's like "yeah, but it's to protect a company"

"Trump is trying to normalize the militarization of our country. This is where it starts, not where it will end. Trump is dropping the pretense of abiding by the rule of law. ...

This manner of operation makes it clear that it’s not about democracy and the American people; it’s about Trump and protecting Trump."

"There is no emergency in Chicago that calls for armed military intervention. ...

Donald Trump wants to use the military to occupy a U.S. city, punish his dissidents, and score political points. If this were happening in any other country, we would have no trouble calling it what it is: a dangerous power grab.”

"They would rather send the military against Americans than stand with Ukraine against Putin. They would rather attack disabled people and marginalized communities than confront real problems facing Americans that require difficult solutions. When you go on offense against Trump and MAGA, they quickly play the role of victim and show what sociopaths they are."

chown -R myname:myname /*

Done by a clueless tech author (username: myname) who'd just been given a new workstation and thought to tidy up all those files with random-looking owner and group names.

(Actually that wasn't on Linux it was on SCO Open Desktop, and I think the flag might have been -r on that, but it's the same principle. Luckily they'd only have the machine for a couple of hours so a complete wipe and reinstall fixed it.)

(PS: no, it wasn't me!)

My bosses at one job once assigned the guy who'd never used Unix to 'clean up’ their Sun workstations. I offered to do it, because I actually KNEW Linux, but they said I should focus on my assigned work & let him get on with it.

About 30 minutes later, Cleanup Guy called me over, very puzzled, because everything had suddenly stopped working.

It seemed he'd found a directory called ‘/tmp’ that obviously wasn't needed for anything, so he’d deleted it to save space …

We're definitely hard at work on having code available for testing on TestFlight by the end of the year! The best place for updates (which we always share here) are the mobile progress reports on our blog: blog.thunderbird.net/category/… (we'll have a joint July/August update available next month!)

@libreoffice
I appreciate what you do and have been using LibreOffice since the beginning and I love it.
However, in recent versions I have been getting a random error behavior - when you have a document open in LibO and you want to use Save As or export to pdf the file dialog opens in a directory where previous document was saved.
I tried 25.8.0.3 and it behaves that way randomly. Sometimes it offer the right directory, sometimes previous. I went back to 25.2.3.2

If you feel that #FDroid downloads are slow, just press ❎ to cancel the download then press Install/Update again so it picks up some other mirror.

There's no unified "F-Droid server" but several and a dozen or more mirrors.

Each time you try again it will use a different one. Hopefully the next one will have better bandwidth.

/PS: We've seen the reports, we will look into it.

In the case of my laptop, which is from Dell, Dell itself deploys updates through Windows Update, and there's also instructions at Dell's website on how to manually update it using an USB stick. When the manufacturer doesn't deploy automatic updates, I believe there are somewhere instructions to do that, perhaps at the motherboard's website, and you can probably do it from your system, whether Windows or Linux.

Great presentation today at #OSSummit Europe today by @zendis

So encouraging to see #Germany's leadership on deploying #OpenSource #SoverignDigital #government

Looking at how to manage both the technology but also the change. Amazing to see France & Holland also collaborating on this project!

Google won't allow you to install Android apps whose developers' identity Google hasn't verified. Starting in 2026 in some countries and in 2027 everywhere: androidauthority.com/android-d…

Google asks what we think of their plans to block Android app installs outside of Google Play (unless the developers let Google verify their identity and pay a fee).

Want to tell them your opinion, just submit this form:

And for developers who who will not go that road (I guess most of the FOSS devs who have their apps explicitly NOT on PlayStore), there's this library: github.com/woheller69/FreeDroi… to let the folks using their apps know (and hopefully raise more noise).

(I haven't seen it in action yet, but the idea seems sound)

I hope the @EUCommission will take action against Google's abuse of power there, though I wonder if they'd do so in time…

Neither Google nor Apple can provide a 100% guarantee that a user won't get malware or have their information stolen even if they only download apps from the official App Store or Google Play Store.

While these official stores have a robust review process, malware scanning to filter out malicious apps, threats still exist. Bad actors constantly evolve their methods, and sometimes malicious apps can slip through the cracks. 1/3

Let's abandon productivity in favour of fruitfulness.

Productivity values quantity.
Fruitfulness values quality.

Productivity is unrelenting.
Fruitfulness is seasonal.

Productivity tries to get as much as possible out of the worker for as little as possible in return.
Fruitfulness views the promotion of the worker's wellbeing as a natural part of the process.

Let it also be noted that the Bible has a lot of good things to say about fruitfulness, but tends to mention productivity only in the context of oppression.

Reaper is such amazing software. I just discovered the 2 actions SWS: Save current track selection and SWS: Toggle between current and saved track selection. While there is sadly no OSARA reporting from these actions at this time, I can now have a 70 track project, go to track 60 and bookmark that, go up to track 15, and continue tapping one keystroke over and over to jump instantly between tracks 15 and 60. While admittedly only useful in projects with a lot of tracks, it can be a huge time saver sometimes when 2 related bits of the project you're working on are 49 tracks apart in the view.
in reply to Pitermach

@pitermach @Scott I was considering doing it myself honestly, I looked at OSARA's code and it looks like it'd be a one-liner, just need to add it to the custom post commands map and have it call PostGoToTrack or whatever. As usual I'll go figure out how to fix it in OSARA's code even if it takes a while but then for some reason the simple figure out project guidelines/fork/do we need an issue/pr formality process is a blocker for me and that is absolutely something I need to work on, not just for OSARA but for any project.
