No, there was no leaked database of 3.5B #WhatsApp users. Researchers from Vienna simply used the contact discovery method with all possible phone numbers to get contact data of 3.5B users. They informed WhatsApp who kinda fixed it by setting rate limits for contact discovery and the researchers deleted their collected data. Read the paper instead of clickbait :)

People are probably going to hate me saying this but...
I do not like Addictive Drums.

Wow, Vienna scientists received the complete WhatsApp member directory, containing 3.5 billion user entries. Yes, it’s just the directory, no messages, but the whole directory was available online - totally unprotected.
Any more reasons for not using WhatsApp required

„Nesmíme zapomínat na to, že sektor zaměstnává 74 tisíc lidí a dobrovolníci ročně odpracují 37 milionů hodin v hodnotě 8,3 miliardy korun. Shrnuto, neziskové organizace a jejich přínos ekonomice tvoří 0,9 procenta celého HDP. Podstatou státu není vše zajistit sám, ale vytvářet podmínky pro to, aby lidé byli aktivní a starali se o společnost společně. A k tomu právě občanská společnost všem bez rozdílu slouží.“

#Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand:
A tiny human (2?) runs his fastest down a garden path to greet his big brother (5?) home from school.
Big Brother stoically accepting all hero worship.
Little Brother doing a happy skip-dance of welcome as he leads the way back into the house.
A very serious man (60s?) is doing some cycling along a beach path on a no-nonsense trail bike.
But what is this?!
A little black dog sitting on a special basket in front of the handlebars? Ears flapping in the wind and a goofy doggy grin on its face?
Ah, maybe opposites attract.
A young human (8?) is practicing doing bunny hops on his scooter.
He doesn't quite have the hang of it and there're a few stops and starts but it's okay.
He's having fun.
Grinning when he gets one right.
Six young humans (9?) are playing volleyball after school. Five have their game faces on, taking epic dives at the ball.
Meanwhile, one is doing a dreamy on-the-spot dance.
Yes there's a bit of fuss going on, but she's happy in her own wee world.
A big man (20s?) in business casual is lounging on his tummy on some grass in a park. Big Man's big dog (white staffy) is affectionately nuzzling his human's beard with his nose, tail wagging with helicopter-enthusiasm.
Birdsong in trees overhead.
A city settling in for the night.

I continuously experience a #cybersecurity conundrum.
A manufacturer/developer isn't investing in security because the customers don't demand security. And even less are running to pay a premium for security.
With the end users there still seems to be an "I have nothing to hide" attitude.
So I'm looking for ideas, suggestions and experiences on how to increase and generate security awareness both on the management side as well as on the end user side.
Regarding end users there is the additional challenge of another layer of indirection.
I need to enable the "sellers" to create the security awareness, as they talk to the end users.
I'm NOT looking for advice like "just tell them what can go wrong" because i don't think it works. Or at least not if it is abstract and isn't personal.

Only 1% of Mastodon users donate to support the team? Sure, not everyone can afford to do so, but that's still sad. Just made my own donation.
I've always found this discussion on timezone mismatch for both (Peninsular) Malaysia and Singapore, that is, being GMT+8 instead of our supposed GMT+7 or GMT+7.30, very interesting lol.
Eastern Malaysia (Borneo), ofc, already have it right at GMT+8 - and supposedly, that single hour daily makes a huge difference in terms of 'quality of life' for those who are lucky to be born/stationed there.
I honestly don't care either way, time is 'fiction' after all
, but I wonder just how feasible it is to even change it, should we want to - and if it's worth the trouble. Or maybe a fucked up 'solution' would be to keep the GMT+8 timing but enforce a GMT+7 lifestyle lmao, for example, have schools start at 8.30am GMT+8 (7.30am GMT+7) instead of 7.30am GMT+8 (6.30am GMT+7).
