I would be a LOT more inclined to create native #linux #gtk apps if I could create them using #react or something similar.

Creating interfaces using GTK's native APIs feels like programming in the 90s.

For those wondering, ′′how did i do it?":
I boiled 10L of water, added 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate, two cups of coke, and half cup of lemon juice, then stirred well. Waited 3 minutes, put the pan in the solution for 45 minutes, then added a quarter cup of chlorine bleach to the mixture. Then I brushed it with a firm toothbrush and put it back into the liquid for another 25 minutes. I took it out, rinsed it, and it looked exactly the same, so I threw it away, and went and bought a new one.

Edit: Please don’t actually make this concoction! The resulting mixture may produce poisonous gases! This toot is a joke, the pictures are not even my pans. I didn’t throw any pans away. Following these directions, despite the fact it probably won’t do anything useful, would be fucking stupid and you may win a Darwin Award.

I was chatting with a friend today and was reminded of Alan Turing's beautiful topological argument, in a footnote, that every written alphabet is finite. I wrote a blog post about this back in 2010.

Computing is normally done by writing certain symbols on paper. We may suppose this paper is divided into squares like a child’s arithmetic book… I shall… suppose that the number of symbols which may be printed is finite. If we were to allow an infinity of symbols, then there would be symbols differing to an arbitrarily small extent.* The effect of this restriction of the number of symbols is not very serious. It is always possible to use sequences of symbols in the place of single symbols. Thus an Arabic numeral such as 17 or 999999999999999 is normally treated as a single symbol. Similarly in any European language words are treated as single symbols (Chinese, however, attempts to have an enumerable infinity of symbols). The differences from our point of view between the single and compound symbols is that the compound symbols, if they are too lengthy, cannot be observed at one glance. This is in accordance with experience. We cannot tell at a glance whether 9999999999999999 and 999999999999999 are the same.
If we regard a symbol as literally printed on a square we may suppose that the square is 0\le x \le 1, 0 \le y \le 1. The symbol is defined as a set of points in this square, viz. the set occupied by printer’s ink. If these sets are restricted to be measurable, we can define the “distance” between two symbols as the cost of transforming one symbol into the other if the cost of moving unit area of printer’s ink unit distance is unity, and there is an infinite supply of ink at x = 2, y = 0. With this topology, the symbols form a conditionally compact space.

Microsoft, if this visionormative "your audio-focused game targeted at blind players needs a screenshot" bullshit again is your idea of us all playing and winning, then I just don't know what to say anymore.

And the only reason I'm distributing with Microsoft to begin with is that Steam has too many barriers. Itch is nice but seems on life support. If I was 20 years younger I'd probably try building Blindie Steam just so no one else has to deal with this obstacle.

Some days, like today, I just want to quit doing this, release all the code and assets for free, and switch to just doing the things that society thinks blind folks aught to do. Game development, unfortunately, is not where we're allowed to thrive. Wish I could just keep reaching inside and finding more and more to fight with, but 42 years of that kind of thinking has pretty much resulted in me pulling out everything and leaving me with not a whole lot of reserves.
