Good morning! @accessibleandroid

I don't think y'all are among the #AppleVis community, but I just wanted to pass along the below link, since I mentioned y'all over there. I think it's my third time mentioning thy peeps of said project among said walls.

FYI: The thread I didn't create myself, but it's the first comment on page three of said thread:

Thanks for mentioning us on Applevis. That's priceless. One thing we suffer from the most is the lack of feedback we get from Android users, as you wrote in your post. Without the help of the community, we can't do it all alone as the Accessible Android editorial staff and Blind Android Users podcast crew. We try our best to offer as many resources as possible, but we need our Android community on our side.

If you are looking for a basic first thing to implement for #curl, maybe this could be it?

Over at @tedium, I have a take on Threads, Mastodon, internet culture, and UX.

Key point: Learn to live with a grimy internet with slightly janky UX. because odds are it is the internet we actually want.

Around this time in 2007, I recorded a short piece of music, which I never finished.
This is because I just sold my keyboard, a Yamaha Motif Classic, and I wanted to see how much I could get done between when the guy called to say he was coming until he picked it up.

I used an old version of Addictive Drums, a real bass guitar, and lots of overdubbing of the Yamaha - PLG150-VL board to do this permanently unfinished thing, inspired by the theme song from the "'Just William' audio books.

According to some, #WestAfrica is a hotspot of the most talented guitarists around. I agree, but I freely admit I've been biased for a long long time now.
This is Fanta Bourama by Djelimady Tounkara. Considering the above statement, he's mixing in so many styles in this, from #flamenco to jeli ngoni-innspired melodies to #jazzy chromaticism, with immaculate technique and flair, and he makes it all sound effortless. He used to be in the legendary Rail Band before going solo, and is rightfully considered an African #guitar hero. Though not as famous—globally-speaking—as Ali Farka Touré (who occasionally played with the Rail Band’s competition, Les Ambassadeurs), he’s of that same generation of musical pioneers.

They should do this here. Boosting Brent Toderian (BrentToderian): This is REALLY important.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment and counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

Let that sink in. It costs less than accepting homelessness.

#AndroidAppRain at apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid with 7 updated and 1 added apps:

* Squawker: anonymous client for the birdsite

apt.izzysoft.de/magisk got 2 more modules added as well (now serving 75 Magisk modules):

* MyDNS: set up your local DNS server
* Rotate suggest disabler: disabling the Android P+ rotate suggest feature

Enjoy your #free #android #apps with #FDroid and the #IzzySoftRepo :awesome:

@citizenserious I'm using MRepo, which also supports my Magisk repo. Sanmer is steadily working on the app and the repo utils, so I hope this solution will last long and stay on track. And my repo only allows modules under FOSS licenses (though I close an eye on the one or other anti-feature which is then transparently pointed out in the list on my corresponding website: apt.izzysoft.de/magisk).

This study is making the rounds:

“Through the analysis of sexually dimorphic amelogenin peptides in tooth enamel, we establish that the most socially prominent person of the Iberian Copper Age (c. 3200–2200 BC) was not male, as previously thought, but female. The analysis of this woman, discovered in 2008 at Valencina, Spain, reveals that she was a leading social figure at a time where no male attained a remotely comparable social position.”

@menelion I am starting work on improving the accessibility of @forgejo (and thus @Codeberg) over the coming months. I know there is a lot to be done. But if you have any suggestions of things that are _especially_ bad that make Forgejo hard or impossible to use, please let me know. It might be hard to file issues if Codeberg isn't accessible to you, so feel free to message me directly here or on Matrix. Cheers!

@DM_Ronin

Peter Vágner reshared this.

in reply to André Polykanine

@menelion Thanks for the useful feedback. I can see that PR reviews in particular could be a challenging area to solve – if GitHub is better in this regard it will be instructive to look at how they solved that. I'll be making some architectural changes to the front-end code first, but later I might contact you for feedback on changes I make if that's ok with you.
(I do also realise you have sent some feedback before to other team members; thank you for that.)

in reply to Caesar

@caesar @forgejo @Codeberg It's totally OK, but please use Mastodon, email, Telegram, but not Matrix as at least for me it's also super painful accessibility-wise. I did one small improvement in Gitea regarding headings navigation for comments in issues. As for Github, they also implemented it on my request. They have a plus button next to each line, which is not a button really. So they added a corresponding ARIA role and provided it with text "Add line comment". They however didn't add accessibility for multi-line commenting which I've been asking for like one and a half years.
in reply to Caesar

@caesar Usually we use virtual cursor or its equivalent on Github when reviewing pull requests, so it's really not intuitive. Otherwise, how to read diffs? I'd prefer something like that: line numbers themselves are clickable and have semantic role of toggle buttons. So basically, I'd click number 5, then click number 10, so a field opens wheree I could comment on lines 5 through 10. Your Gmail example probably would be OK, but again, how do we navigate then?

COVID content - memory damage

From @1goodtern

Just another normal week in our timeline when an article in Nature states unequivocally that SARS-CoV-2 can invade the neural system to interfere with human memory, and everyone shrugs and says yeah whatever.

Oh my God. PLEASE do not get on Meta's new competitor for Twitter.

It harvests mucho data including our health data.

You cannot opt out.

#Meta has already taken info from a Facebook Messenger chat about seeking #abortion in a hostile state, and turned it over for prosecution.

If you're #trans or might ever need to end a pregnancy PLEASE do not use #Threads.

Boost this. Protect your damn friends.

Some very vocal #LibreOffice devs consider that client-side window decorations (for example #GTK HeaderBar kind of things) are "NOT a #UX #design issue", and that it's all about the burden of maintaining that across different OSes/platforms.

Yeah… I might buy their argument if LibreOffice had the guts to actually commit to only one (or two) UI layouts and toolkits, instead of maintaining *seven* UI layout choices, to begin with 🙄️
