Do you want to schedule your posts on Mastodon so that you write them now and they are automatically published later?

Some third party apps including Tusky and Fedilab have a built-in scheduling option. Fedilab also runs a website at plan.fedilab.app which lets you schedule posts.

If you want a professional scheduled post management system, there are third party commercial services such as publer.io and buffer.com that now include Mastodon compatibility.

Hi everyone, it’s been a while! We've been... slightly hooked on a racing game that came out recently, so I convinced @talon to stream it. As a result, at our usual time, which is a little over 6 hours from now, join us on twitch.tv/pg13lp for some single and perhaps also multiplayer Forza action!

reminder that the early and not-so-early days of computing are basically incomprehensible from a modern lens

there was a time when the idea of having "if and else blocks" in your language was a *novel paradigm* with people arguing over whether "structured programming" was sufficiently expressive or somehow worse than the goto soup of assembly (60s -> 80s)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Structur…

there was a time when letting a function directly or indirectly call itself was a *controversial decision* that people violently disagreed with (because that would require something like a *stack*, when everyone knows local variables are much more efficient to implement as statically allocated globals!)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALGOL_60

maybe the "absurd", "restrictive", or "wasteful" things you see in today's new programming languages will become as common as water one day too :)

You know how it's hard to learn something you can't see the point of?

I think this is why senior developers, particularly, flock to Rust.
We've been in the trenches, we've been paged at 4am, we've debugged the same missing semicolon or bad indentation errors a thousand times.

You tell me that with just a bit more syntax, Rust can fix my PTSD? I say SIGN ME UP! 🎉

A junior developer, the sweet summer child, only wants things to be easy NOW.

#RustLang isn't optimised for easy NOW.
It's optimised for easy FOREVER.

I recently discovered a feature for moderators where you can help with accessibility. When moderating a hashtag, you can change its display name to replace lower-case with upper-case letters. This will help both dyslexics and vision impaired people.

If you can afford an extra minute or two to fix these while moderating trends, it will make them easier to read for everybody, especially the really long tags in hashtag games.

Fascinating and sophisticated MiTM ('man in the middle') at Hetzner (DE) and Linode, targeting Russia's largest XMPP/Jabber (civilian) chat service. The authors of the article make a reasonably compelling case that "this is lawful interception Hetzner and Linode were forced to setup."

I've created a new git repository with JSON Schema definitions for several Fediverse protocols and data formats, including Activity Streams 2.0, #ActivityPub, JSON Resource Description (Webfinger, Nodeinfo), and Mastodon [WIP]. There are automated tests that validate the W3C AS2 test corpus (a fork with bug fixes), examples from the AP spec and Mastodon AP docs, and others.

#Freddie could not sing this with us, but now we have the chance to hear what it could have sounded like. Hats off to Brian May for one of his best songs.

Not quite the right style and accent, but it still gives me the chills. There's never going to be another voice like this. #ai #cover #queen #music

@Marco In case you were wondering, this is the original: youtube.com/watch?v=s90gTcZk22…

I shifted her voice down by an octave to keep the same key, since my initial thought was that it would be too high for Freddie's voice range, though falsetto would have worked.

Just talking about audio chat, I recently tried out #Audon, which is a web-based audio chat for mastodon and fedi accounts. You can try it on audon.space/

The #a11y is not perfect, but it can be used. First time you use it you need to authorise it with your fedi account. After that, if you're the host of a room, you need to authorise people coming in. If you just want to join a room the host should give you the link, which you can get from the address bar, and that's it.

UN human rights experts strongly & unequivocally condemned the decision by the Israeli Minister of Defence, Benny Gantz, to designate six Palestinian human rights and civil society groups as terrorist organisations.
“These organisations speak the language of universal human rights. They use a rights-based approach to their work, including a gendered analysis, to document human rights abuses of all kinds in Palestine, including business-related human rights abuses.”

Detailed and credible looking report of #LawfulInterception #MitM on an #xmpp server hosted at #Hetzner in Germany: notes.valdikss.org.ru/jabber.r…

Looks like a transparent bridge was deployed in front of the actual server, obtained dedicated certificates from #LetsEncrypt and MitMed all incoming client connections since July. It was discovered because the LE certificate expired 🤦

(Politico)

I wrote about my first two months on Mastodon. I was a Mastodon hater because I thought it would be weird, complicated, or dead. It's been none of those things.

I'm ashamed I didn't join earlier and I'm ashamed I haven't been telling people to join it, because it's a version of the internet and social media I've long advocated for with my reporting: decentralized, portable, user controlled, not corporate:

Re last boost: Just one more thing to add to the Windows 11 is cursed pile. The TLDR is if you get Windows Pro, after installation it enables bitlocker in software mode which can tank performance by up to 40% in random operations. The best part is while you can turn bitlocker off easily enough, if the SSD you use supports hardware encryption and you want to use that instead you need to reinstall windows and make a change in the group policy editor in the installer. Didn't work? Oops have to reinstall Windows again.

We have an important judgement today in a case where I represent the Plaintiffs, Digital Rights Ireland.

DRI are the first organisation to be recognised by the HC as having standing to bring cases on behalf of wronged data subjects.

This has allowed women who are victims of revenge porn to seek to hold those responsible, while maintaining their privacy.
