I recorded these on 06 April 2013 originally, and they have changed slightly in the intervening years. Check the video description for that original recording if curious.

Japan's equivllent of the emergency alert system has some pretty sci-fi sounds too. As well as a few which sound way too calm for what they announce. You may want to OCR the video to know what each sound is. youtube.com/watch?v=mlzGigIUgb…

I am baffled when people talk about "the atmosphere" on Mastodon. Here, there is no algorithm forcing posts into your feed. The atmosphere is the one you have personally curated.

1) Scan a person's feed before you follow.

2) Turn off the boosts of anyone you otherwise like who boosts stuff you don't want to see.

3) Mute anyone you don't want to hear from at all.

4) Filter out words/phrases you don't want to see (you will have to do much less of this if you do the first three steps right).

This program from Australian radio examines the role of photography in the development of machine learning models. Interestingly, of greatest value to data scientists is found not in the work of professional or artistic photographers, but in images taken of whatever is in view of the camera as one goes about daily activities, then uploaded to the Web by the thousand. Indeed, a photographer who did exactly this is credited for his substantial, though unwitting, contributions to AI.
As a blind person, I expect to benefit from advances in computer vision and image analysis. Nevertheless, I wish the providers of the data were better compensated and properly acknowledged. I don't think copyright law is the right vehicle for this, but that's a separate issue.

Yep, was just reading up on it. Wow, what a cryptic language that is! I wonder if it was used to build a screen recognition model in iOS? If it was, this LLM would be a very abstract version. I may be totally misreading / misunderstanding the paper though. I wish I had enough time to train the model and see what sort of input / output you’d get out of it.

#Ukrajina

@pblakez @daedalus @stilgherrian @garthk Which is what GDPR article 15 is for. Those services (potentially) tracking to much and I cannot avoid them get such a request once a year (there are templates for that even). Won't get rid of it entirely, but if enough people doing that might keep the corps at bay a little.

Spread the word :awesome:

PS: And follow up with art 17 to have them delete. Insist on 17.2 for some extra fun (recursive deletion wherever they shared data to) 😈
