I wrote the lyrics for this song years ago and never did anything with them. I thought I was going to learn recording software and become a better musician but I never did. It's just a hobby and if I didn't just put something out there it would have sat in a notes app forever.
So I threw together some cords, sat in front of my webcam, opened photobooth 😅, and hit record. Anyway at least it's off the page. I just want to push myself to create more whether it's good or not

As I'm making my own debloat script for Windows, removing a few registry things and such, I went looking in my bookmarks and found this. It still holds up

First, a quote. The fact that this has to be turned on by anyone shows just how ableist much of open source culture is. No other operating system needs this. When you turn on VoiceOver on a Mac, you can access every accessible program. When you turn on Narrator or NvDA on Windows, you can access every accessible program. When you turn on ChromeVox on a ChromeBook, you can access every accessible program. It’s only on Linux, where you have to check a box to enable accessibility.

The AT-SPI protocol actually provides a way for ATs like Orca to automatically tell applications when accessibility needs to be enabled, as long as the desktop environment is correctly configured. I don't know if there are applications or toolkits that still don't support this mechanism. I know it's there because we just implemented it in #AccessKit.
in reply to Matt Campbell

@Matt Campbell @Robert Kingett Well those are the settings such as org.mate.interface accessibility or org.gnome.desktop.interface toolkit-accessibility . These are supposed to launch at-spi along with the desktop environment such as when logging into gnome. However if at-spi is installed orca launches it too. If it's running already it does not mess with unless a --replace command line parameter is specified. At least this is my understanding.

"A new accommodation tax enacted by the Greek government came into force this month (January) as part of plans to finance reconstruction efforts following severe forest fires and floods.

The tax increases range from one euro to four euros per night, with amounts based on the official rating of the venue. It is also seasonal, having effect only in the busy tourist months between March and October."

I want to do an overhaul of the #AccessKit project website (accesskit.dev/). The current site is kind of broken, but more than that, I want to do a static site with source in Git, not WordPress. The site contains a blog, but it's not just a blog. I haven't yet decided whether tutorial/narrative documentation should be part of the same site or on a separate docs site. The theme needs to prioritize accessibility but also not be ugly. I'd gladly pay someone to work on this.

Koena lost a judgment to overlay vendor FACIL’iti (I have opinions on crap anti-SLAPP protections in France).

All of the approaches I've received on LinkedIn have been strictly professional. This disturbing article (cited on Slashdot) suggests, however, that my experience is in part the product of male privilege.

in reply to Andrew Hodgson

@andrew The most I get via my LinkedIn account are inquiries from recruiters inviting me to apply for Web site/application accessibility remediation work in industry. My profile emphasizes my qualifications - Arts degree, Law degree, Ph.D. - my social justice-related interests, and my involvement in Web accessibility-related standards development and research. It should be obvious that I'm not seeking to help remediate anybody's Web site, and that I'm looking for opportunities appropriate to those qualifications and interests, but apparently it isn't obvious, so I write replies pointing this out.

The whole Trump affair is nothing compared to the shitshow that's going on here right now. Undoing the illegal changes that our previous government has brought on over the last 8 years turns out not to be an easy task. notesfrompoland.com/2024/01/04…

Lebanese writer, poet and visual artist Kahlil Gibran was born #OTD in 1883. I really like his work:

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Claudine Gay pens an essay about her resignation. Everyone should read and absorb this paragraph. Because it encapsulates everything that the next year is going to be. From the election to culture, education, culture, you name it. nytimes.com/2024/01/03/opinion…

For quite some time the NFBNet Web site had archives of all sorts of files, including a section of files which had been distributed by Blazie Engineering. I think these directories of files were originally made available on the NFBNet BBS. These files included various documentation files and free as well as demo versions of external software which could be run on Blazie hardware such as a Braille 'n Speak or Braille Lite. The archive is now in a state of disrepair with the links to the files still present but the files themselves are gone. However, I found some versions of the site stored in the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. The earliest version of the site was captured in 2002. Some files are not available, including some zip files, but others are still available. Here's the link.

What are your thoughts about working with my startup, Outfox Semiconductor?

My startup's first product will help enhance your screen capture and mouse input for your remote desktop application because I'm planning on making a FPGA computer chip.

It also has applications outside of your use cases. Check out my profile to learn more about my startup, Outfox Semiconductor.

I am unashamed to say that I did know about this feature. Haha. Teslas also have a few well-known games built in, apparently. Not accessible ones, but yeah, you can play Cup Head in your Tesla for... some reason. Also, not to get too deep, but man oh man, we've known each other for a long time. It just hit me because I remember you posting clips of Jake when he sounded like, ya know, a little kid. He does not any longer. Haha.
