What I most miss about Twitter when it wasn't evil is that I could publicly shame companies when they were stealing money from me.

#Ebay and one of their sellers have stolen £80 off me and it doesn't matter if I post it on here because nowhere now has the power and reach of old #Twitter

There is currently no way to damage the PR of a company unless you happen to go viral on TikTok or YT.

As a side note - NEVER buy from Ebay, there is no guarantee that your money is safe. None.

Tamas G reshared this.

in reply to Jyoti Mishra

This seems like something that could be easily fixed with a chargeback.
in reply to Mikołaj Hołysz

@miki I was screwed with an Internet purchase, I think it might have been via Ebay, and I just went to my bank for a chargeback and let them all deal with that.

This, is a banger. This whole soundtrack and just this composer in general is really good. This is Elly (sometimes romanized as Erii, originally エリイ) from the soundtrack of YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World (この世の果てで恋を歌う少女 YU-NO) for the NEC PC98. I'd like to see a bassist play the bass part in this, especially when it starts doing the changes! That sounds hard AF, but I'm not a bassist so I can't be certain. youtube.com/watch?v=0joudlesP6…

It is sad to note that the Zoom Conferencing client is becoming less and less easy to use.
It is becoming so bloated with features not necessarily associated with hosting meetings.
Even something as simple as scheduling a meeting does not work as easily as used to be the case.

A major JAWS script update is being worked on so as to hopefully make at least the process of scheduling meetings, and reviewing scheduled events, easier than is currently the case.
An accurate time as to when the update will be available cannot be given at present, but it is hoped it will be within the next two weeks.

Do you have contacts there? I guess earlier they used to reply to accessibility-related inquiries.

Unpopular Opinion: I think C# is the best out of the high-level, statically typed, garbage-collected languages. It has a fairly large ecosystem of third-party libraries, great documentation, two high-quality GUI libraries (Avalonia and Uno Platform) and a high-performance sealing. I think Go is better for backends and microservices, but for a all around general purpose language, it's hard to beat C#
in reply to mohaneds

Yesss! I started my dive in it roughly a year ago and I can't get tired of its beauty and elegance! However, I don't know about those newish stuff's accessibility, so I'm still on Windows Forms. If you have any insights, I'm all ears.
in reply to André Polykanine

@menelion Na, Windows Forms is still the best for us. Avalonia is fairly accessible, but it's laggy with screen readers. So far, i'm converging on C# and Rust being my favorite languages, with Go for web backends running on Linux.
in reply to André Polykanine

@menelion Also: Have you noticed that Visual Studio is more accessible than any of the Java IDEs?
in reply to mohaneds

Of course! I mean, I really didn't see any truly accessible Windows app written in Java. but as for Rust... its syntax is so weird, unlike C#.
in reply to André Polykanine

@menelion Yeah, it's unfortunate because Java jobs pay so much better, at least where I live. I'd love it if INtellij Idea worked well with screen readers. Also yeah, Rust syntax is a little dense and weird. The hardest thing was adjusting to variable types being declared on the right hand side of a variable assignment, but Go helped with that one.
in reply to mohaneds

that yes, but I also hate snake_case, and in Rust it's prevalent, as in Python btw.
in reply to mohaneds

Oh, also you told Avalonia lags with screen readers, what about Uno? And Maui?
in reply to André Polykanine

@menelion NO experience with those. Uno should be fine, as it does the WX thing of using native OS controls. I'll mess with it soon though. Also: uno lets you create the GUI with C# if you're not into XAML, which is cool. I wish Avalonia did that.
in reply to mohaneds

Tag me please when you have any experience, if you don't forget. Thanks!
in reply to mohaneds

I don't think it's an unreasonable view, but if I were to choose one of those langauges I think I'd go for F# myself, and the library access is still there.

I've been using the #Tusky app but I'm running into an annoying issue where if I switch out of the app while writing a post and switch back on, I lose my post and everything I typed up until that point.

I do use the native web app interface also so I'll probably just back to using that full time.

in reply to Zalasur Spoops ooOOoooOoo 🐵

It is a known bug and we are correcting it in the next update. In fact, it is already corrected in the nightly version. Sorry for the annoyances!!!

Great statement at #blinkon by @cdub

"Chrome is the 4th browser I've worked on. They've all had majority market share. 2 of them don't even exist anymore. The web platform remains. It outlives browsers, engines, companies even."

in reply to bkardell

Chromium seems like such an unstoppable juggernaut right now, though. To the point that I'm sympathetic to the argument that Apple's ban on browser competition on iOS might be a good thing in that it's preventing Chromium from becoming even more of an unstoppable juggernaut, leaving everyone else far behind and making it practically impossible to ever develop a new independent engine.

The article linked in my last boost (baldurbjarnason.com/2024/lisko… by @baldur) has buried in it the following unequivocal statement:

":And none of us should be using React."

I think those of us who agree with this message (I think I do) could do a better job of communicating it to those who aren't following the web development discourse. As far as my non-developer business partner knows, for example, React is still an uncontroversial industry standard.

in reply to Matt Campbell

If this doesn't exist yet, maybe we need a web page, with a catchy domain name like WhyNotReact.dev, that succinctly lays out the arguments against React.

Pri tuneni noveho stylu pro kampane jsme si hodne hrali s fonty. Bitvu fontoveho parovani zatim drtive prohravame.

Kombinace, co se nam libila byl napriklad ten SUSE (ted ho tam mame jako Body i Display) a NeueBit, ktery tomu dodal krasnou umeleckou pixelovatost. Bohuzel je pekelne drahy a alternativy jsme nenasli.

Time for another lesson from my days fighting in the Mod Wars in one of Twitch's more famous and busy channels

A few years ago, the channel began showing the pronouns of presenters and guests on stream. And toxic gamer types complained incessantly, often in very overtly transphobic ways, regardless of whether anyone on-stream was trans. We banned every single last person who complained. I personally banned hundreds, it must have been a few thousand all together. Anyone who DM'd the mods to apologize/explain it was a misunderstanding got unbanned, but that was a tiny fraction of them; there were more than a few bonus-transphobia parting shot DMs, often aimed at me because I was the first mod alphabetically.

And after a few weeks of this slaughter... the chat became a civil paradise. It was a much healthier environment than before we began showing the pronouns and causing all the most toxic people to volunteer their identity at once. People who are really gross on one axis tend to be unpleasant on all of them.

🌟 #Sharkvember excitement is in full swing with Freedom Scientific's **Next Big Thing** contest! Last year, the winning idea was all about AI-generated image descriptions—a game-changer for accessibility! 🎉🤖 This year, the competition's fierce, and it's anyone's guess what brilliant idea will take the crown. Will it be another AI marvel, or perhaps something totally unexpected? 🤔✨

Submissions are in soon, and on November 19th, finalists will showcase their visionary ideas for JAWS and ZoomText. I can't wait to see the creativity and innovation at play this year! 😍💡 The thrill of seeing our accessibility tools evolve is so inspiring. We might just see new features that transform how blind and low-vision users interact with the world! 🌐👀

Catch the live event and let’s cheer for these pioneers pushing the boundaries of tech! #NextBigThing #Accessibility #JAWS #ZoomText #Sharkvember2024 🦈💙

in reply to The Blind AI

ah yes, the game-changer copied from other screen readers and apps. I wish innovation didn't come with quite so much hype. Perhaps I'm getting old and grumpy!
in reply to Sean Randall

@cachondo That’s why I’m excited last year there was only one possible answer.

I’m looking to get back into amateur radio a little bit. I have a license but been very inactive. I have a BTech UV5X3 radio here. Quite a while ago, someone sent me an accessible manual for it. Can’t find it. Does anyone have that?

Amazon.com Keyboard Shortcuts... I just noticed that Amazon.com now has a few built in keyboard shortcuts. I am using Jaws and the Google Chrome browser. Please note, with Jaws, you do not have to turn off the virtual cursor or any changes have to be made. The keyboard shortcuts just work! Here are the shortcuts. ALT+/, Go to search. Shift+alt+C, go to cart. Shift+alt+H, go to home. Shift+alt+O, go to list of orders. That's it. Some is better than nothing. I know I will be using them! Happy shopping. #Amazon #Windows #Jaws #Keyboard #Shortcuts #Blind #Accessible

I made a histogram of wealth distribution in the United States, using the Forbes 400 list that just came out. Almost the entire US population is in the red line at the left, one pixel wide. To fit Elon Musk on the graph, each pixel is $500 million wide. In other words, from the perspective of the very rich, $0 and $500 million look the same.

When logging into Wordpress.org (login.wordpress.org) you have to confirm that you are not affiliated with WPEngine.

While this looks petty and childish it's another sign the Wordpress is in the hands of people who can't find less destructive ways to handle their fucking midlife crisis.

Got a (I think legit) tracking email for my ebay delivery from Royal Mail today. Subject has an obvious typo "...is due to bedelivered today" and the tracking button uses a sketchy looking domain `ryml.me` that's not used elsewhere in the email. No wonder folks fall for phishing attacks 🤦 .
