This painting evokes nostalgia for my beautiful pre-war Kharkiv. I believe that Ukraine will prevail, and I, like many Kharkiv residents who have been forced to leave for foreign lands, will one day return to my hometown. I have faith that we will restore Kharkiv after the devastating destruction, and it will emerge even more beautiful than before.

Many thanks to the buyer from Green Bay, WI who purchased a 20" x 15" print of Night Lights of Kharkiv!

"Female" and "women" are considered words to avoid but not "male" and "men" because they view male as the default and standard sex and men as the default and standard gender.

Trump's budget plan may cut NASA science funding by up to 50%, alarming scientists who call it an "extinction-level event" for space science. This threatens ongoing missions and would cede future space exploration to China. Also, about 30% of NASA's science budget is for Earth and climate science.

Support for the SMC-Mixer and SMK-25 II piano keyboard have been merged into @mixxx and will be available out-of-the-box in version 2.5.1! Thanks to M-Vave for sending me these; I'm glad I could help! I enjoy writing plugins for DJ setups, if you have an extra controller that you want supported, or are a company that makes MIDI or HID controllers and you want to send one my way, I'm always happy to write a mapping and help get it supported in the best DJ software out there!

Given it’s international women’s day, I’d like to encourage you all, but especially Dutch men to read these ‘anti-acknowledgments’ in a PhD thesis. This is not from somewhere else, it’s from Delft. And it’s not from the 1950s, but from the present. Unfortunately what academic life and culture in The Netherlands is still like. The author is just one of the few who actually spoke up about it, but there are many stories like it.

Maybe time for people and groups to start considering #Matrix for their current #Discord servers, as Discord becomes focused on getting money out of everyone who uses it, with likely enshitification beginning soon. #XMPP/#Jabber is also an alternative.

Both are decentralized, publicly owned services, where you can interact with anyone else regardless of which server they choose to be hosted on, just like Mastodon, et al.

Re: last boost by @TheQuinbox about the new release of easymark (github.com/trypsynth/easymark): This is a small success story for Rust and the growing ecosystem of libraries and tools around it, especially @raph's pulldown-cmark Markdown parser library, the native-dialog and webbrowser libraries, and the dist tool (opensource.axo.dev/cargo-dist/) for releasing cross-platform CLI utilities with easy CI integration.

Remember: when you run #curl shipped by Apple with the --cacert flag it won't behave like #curl does everywhere else. As I wrote about last year. I think they're doing it wrong. They think its fine.

Chcete si na mapě zobrazit všechny výskyty nějakého objektu (knihobudky, bankomaty, pítka, veřejná ohniště...)? Snadno to jde například s @MapComplete (mapcomplete.org/). Chybějící objekty můžete i doplňovat, podobně jako přes @streetcomplete.

Available in the Debian experimental repository, can be used easily with:
$ podman run debian:experimental /bin/bash -c 'apt install --update -t experimental -y curl && curl --version'

If you use docker:
$ docker run debian:experimental /bin/bash -c 'apt install --update -t experimental -y curl && curl --version'

Or by enabling the experimental repository and installing it in your machine, if you use Debian.

I obviously am not the definitive voice, but I am more on the side of 2025 being represented in the description since when 2026 rolls around, users may not know what year, exactly, is on the badge whereas anyone with vision (or OCR abilities) can see that without second guessing. Again, it is just my opinion, and I am just one user among many, with just as diverse opinions on the matter.
in reply to Timothy Wynn

@twynn Not sure what makes for a definitive voice but if it helps, I've attended and delivered quite a few alt text trainings.

If the badge visually says 2025, the alt text also needs to convey 2025 otherwise it's not a full visual description.

For example, if someone was using an outdated badge and the alt text didn't mention the specific year, a blind user wouldn't pick up on that. @NVAccess

I've just released Easymark v1.1.0, supporting many new Markdown features, and also making it cross-platform! There are ARM64 and x86-64 Windows, ARM and Intel macOS, and ARM and x86-64 Linux versions. github.com/trypsynth/easymark/…

Branden Spikes is one of Musk’s most trusted IT executives, working with him at Zip2, PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla, and now X/Twitter. He has been involved in Musk’s government-backed digital initiatives.

Spikes's ex-wife, Natalia Haldeman (née Libina), is a Russian national involved in Russian-American nonprofit networks. Before Spikes, she was married to Musk’s cousin, Reeve Haldeman.

According to cybersecurity researcher Brian Krebs:

Branden and Natalia’s names are on the registration records for orangetearoom[.]com, home of the tax-exempt California Russian Association. The group collaborated with the Russian Orthodox Church, which is widely believed to serve as an intelligence apparatus.

Spikes has attended events with Ivan Y. Podvalov, a board member of the pro-Kremlin lobbying group Congress of Russian Americans.

Natalia Haldeman’s mother was pictured with Maye Musk, Elon Musk’s mother, in 2022.

Spikes is allegedly involved in DOGE without appearing on official paperwork.

Sam Corcos, a new recruit in Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was seen at the IRS demanding taxpayer and vendor data to investigate fraud.

Corcos pushed for an “omnibus” data-sharing agreement that would allow agencies to cross-reference taxpayer data—potentially granting unauthorized access.

A new DOGE official, Sam Corcos, arrives at IRS headquarters and demands detailed taxpayer and vendor information. DOGE presses IRS lawyers to authorize an agreement that would allow agencies to cross-reference taxpayer data to search for fraud.

Sam’s wife, Varvara Russkova, worked for GVA Capital, a VC firm later revealed to be a conduit for Suleyman Kerimov, a sanctioned Russian oligarch who held a 1% stake in SpaceX.

GVA funneled $28 million of Kerimov’s money into U.S. tech investments before U.S. Treasury blocked his assets in 2018. Kerimov attended a Kremlin meeting with Putin and other oligarchs to discuss sanctions circumvention.

Edward Coristine, grandson of an executed KGB double agent, now holds a powerful position within DOGE.

Given his past cybersecurity failures (let go for leaking confidential information) and Russian market ties, his access to federal systems raises national security risks.

These cases expose a catastrophic failure of vetting—individuals with clear red flags are embedded at the highest levels of federal IT infrastructure. Attempts to limit DOGE’s access to sensitive data have failed.

In the worst case, adversaries could gain access to classified data—locations, health records, and FAA systems. No hypotheticals are needed. This demands urgent scrutiny.

For those who recognize real Russian influence, the patterns are unmistakable: NGOs as soft power tools, strategic marriages to U.S. citizens groomed for influence, cultural exchange networks as infiltration points. It’s all here.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration dismantled safeguards against foreign influence:

• Disbanded the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force

• Weakened anti-money laundering laws, easing foreign shell company operations

• Shut down the DOJ’s Kleptocracy Task Force, halting investigations into foreign corruption

These moves don’t just leave the door open—they invite adversaries in and assure them they won’t be prosecuted. The question is, why.
