my next few months working on Plasma accessibility will involve:
- Touch gestures for desktop zoom - Individual zoom level and tracking for each display on multi-display systems (if you enable it, some users may prefer it acting like one giant screen) - Shape-aware upscaling for extreme zoom levels. Makes text appear far less blurry. I'll turn it off by default.

I upgraded to a Pixel 10 Pro because the promos made it super cheap for me—and honestly, Pixelsnap (Qi2/MagSafe) without a case. I disable all the AI features I can on my Google Account, so none of that new stuff interests me, but there *are* a handful of new things I’ve seen literally nobody mention in “reviews” or sales pages. I’ll compile them here in this thread for anyone interested.
Planning to buy a P10 Pro, too, so looking forward to your findings. Not really concerned about integrated AI since I will instantly reflash it with GrapheneOS.

it's not really about the voting processes. direct democracy doesn't necessarily seek to establish a classless/stateless society. direct ballot initiatives are a form of direct democracy, and several states use them, but you would never call the states anarchist because they still have governments.
@me it doesn't make any sense because people still want rules and regulations and laws about what is permissible. So there has to be a government of some form to enforce them. The people can't enforce on their own

Does that really work? Don't most modern bots actually use a headless chromium/firefox so it can render the page and get more useful data out? Especially for being able to digest websites that are just SPAs and require executing the javascript to see the real content?
We had, in Western NY, a super rainy start to August. So much so that we had to get a swayle installed to prevent water from getting into the basement.
7 years later and I still really don't like Discord man. I use it because other people use it and that's all. Why? Well, consider an app that is known to introduce (even if temporarily sometimes), quirky accessibility bugs. Now imagine that same app shoehorning updates each time you launch and you cannot downgrade if it breaks. Then, imagine if when you complained, you got redirected to the metaphorical recycle bin chat bot thingy that tells you to reinstall the app and have a good day. Pair this up with accessibility quirks that have existed for years at this point, and you get an idea of how valued you are as a customer. Finally, the icing on the shitcake: imagine that while all of this happens, you get random popups or elements on screen that beg you to pay a monthly subscription, or show ads for promoted games and content. In your chat app. I don't get the impression of, "We really care about you and hope you have the best experience possible." Instead, I imagine them being like, "Well, suck it up. We've got the monopoly and all your friends, so you're just gonna deal with it anyway. That makes us money. We might fix it later."
i'm an admin on 3 servers, thanks Discord for making that term meaningless, including the #OurBlind server, and have used it since before I lost my sight and can comfortably say both as a #blind, and sighted, user, well it could be worse.
@dhamlinmusic Not to mention mobile support as well. Even if it's not great, the fact that it works passably is good, especially for those of us who spend quite some time not at the computer. It could definitely be better, but not sure what a good alternative is that doesn't have really weird issues which also don't get fixed.

Mazda si nechala patentovat šestidobý motor. V muzeu technologických zajímavostí zapomenutých značek se bude určitě vyjímat až Changan začne na svá auta dávat i své logo. Proč to ale zmiňuji. Ten motor umí oddělovat a zachytávat uhlík, tzn. žádné CO2 z motoru nejde, ale občas by se musel někde vysypat. Prý toho jsou až desítky kg na nádrž paliva. A teď přijde diskuse, kde borec řeší, kam by se to vyhazovalo a ani ho nenapadne, že to teď každý den dýchá.
S nastupující dobou elektrickou už moc často nepíšeme o novém druhu spalovacího motoru. Zásobárnou nových nápadů, jak jej udržet při životě déle, je Mazda, která si nově patentovala šestitaktní motor.
Píšou tam 40 kg CO2 na nádrž. Přitom spálením benzínu vznikne CO2 zhruba o trojnásobné hmotnosti (ony ty dvě kyslíku přidají sakra na váze), takže bych na nádrž čekal spíš 150 kg. V zimě by mohly takové vozy fungovat jako posypové. :D
@sesivany Já to konzultoval s ChatGPT, než jsem to postnul, a prý tam je cca 30 kg na 50l nádrž čistě uhlíku. Cílem toho motoru je mít nulové emise a proto mě přišlo vtipný, že někomu nevadí to dýchat ale v pevné hmotě to pro něj je no-go 🙂
@pavel @sesivany Problém je ve složitosti celého systému. Příliš mnoho dílů zvyšuje pravděpodobnost poruchy. Elektrický pohon je jednodušší, účinnější, čistší a tišší. Jasně, baterie, dojezd, infrastruktura. Měli jsme nejprve začít s infrastrukturou a úložišti energie. Teď to složitě doháníme.
Elektricky pohon je cistsi... pokud se elektrina nevyrabi z uhli.
Ale me zajimalo jak je to s tou ucinnosti... Dle robota by ten sestitakt vyuzil jen 40% energie z paliva, coz mi prijde jako maly problem :

K nabíjení pouze z uhlí u nás nikdy nedojde, protože mezi 40 a 60 % elektřiny se vyrábí z jádra. Aktuálně to je 48 %. Z uhlí 28 %. Pokud by si nabíjel jako my, na levném spotu, klesne podíl uhlí pod 20 %.🧵
@pavel @Petr90 To mi přijde trochu posunuté v neprospěch EV. Moderní uhelné elektrárny mají uhlíkovou intenzitu 0,8 kg/kWh. Taky se mi nechce moc věřit, že s čistým benzínem, který má podobný výkon jako EV, se dá jezdit za 6l/100 km. Náš benzín měl papírově 6,2 l, za nejlepších podmínek jezdil za 7 a reálně ta spotřeba byla kolem 8. Zato u EV máme reálnou dlouhodobou spotřebu 16 kWh/100 km a to nemám zdaleka nejúspornější EV a manželka to dost honí, já jezdím na spotřebu a kolem 15 kWh/100km.
Jinak já poslední 4 měsíce jezdím za 0,55 kg CO2/100 km. 🙂
@sesivany @pavel @Petr90 Vygooglil jsem 0.8 až 1.2, počítal jsem 1 kg. S 0.8 to je samozřejmě o kousek lepší.
Naše Mazda uměla jezdit za 6l/100km. Po okreskách a fakt klidnou jízdou. Tesla ale umí v takových podmínkách 13 kWh/100km, takže záleží jak se to počítá. Tam kde měla Mazda na dálnici 10l/100 (23 kg CO2), tak Tesle stačí 23 kWh/100 (18-23 kg CO2 z uhlí, 11 kg z aktuálního mixu).
@pavel @Petr90 Ony jsou nějaké ztráty i v přenosové soustavě a při nabíjení, takže se asi dá říct, že to vyjde šulnul, ale pro EV je to ta nejhorší možná varianta, pro ICE standard.
Ale jak jsi psal, varianta, že auto jezdí čistě na uhlí, je nereálná. I v tom Polsku, které závisí při výrobě elektřiny na uhlí zdaleka nejvíc z celé Evropy, je uhlíková intenzita 0,7 kg/kWh. U nás jsme na 2/3.
Před pár týdny jsem si doma rozjel vlastní server (Mini PC s Intel Celeron J4105 a 4GB RAM). Dokoupil jsem 2TB M.2 SSD a v dockeru rozjel aplikace #Immich (náhrada Google Photos) a #Jellyfin (takový domácí Netflix). Vzdálený přístup řeším přes #Tailscale VPN a automatickou zálohu dat na jiné PC přes rsync. Jsem překvapený, jak dobře to funguje. #SelfHosting
@VildaVedo O2, ale oni to mají zaškrcené u simek pro pevné připojení všichni. Na normální simce tu u O2 natočím s přehledem 300 Mbps, ale k domácímu Internetu mi nedají víc než 50/10. A ještě jsem nenarazil na tarif, kde by rychlost neškrtili, FUP by zvládl aspoň 1 TB/měsíc a nechtěli za to úplnou raketu.
@sesivany Já mám doma modem s SIM od T-Mobile. Stojí to 850 Kč, je to neomezené. Pokud si najdu BTS s 800 Mbps, budu to mít. Pravidelně mi modem ukazuje cca 2 TB fuč každý měsíc.
Je to jednoduché: Internet > mobilní internet > Neomezená data (úplně dole, ano).
Normálně za to chtějí 1000 Kč/měsíc, ale já už zařízení mám, telefon prostě musím mít. Takže něco okolo 800 Kč/měsíc.
Máš neomezenou SIM, kterou můžeš dát do jakéhokoliv modemu chceš. Takže MikroTik, či jako já TP-Link Deco X80-5G. 😀
No a máš vlastní net, což je velmi pohodlné, pokud přežiješ, že nemáš public IP. Nicméně třeba Syncthing zvládl díky IPv6 udělat direct WAN connection, ačkoliv tam je CGNAT.
S našimi datovými tarify rozjedete internet na cesty naplno. Připojte notebook, tablet, klidně i celou partu. Když bude potřeba, zavoláte si nebo pošlete SMS.
@VildaVedo Dívám se, že O2 to má aktuálně za 899. Za domácí net platíme 500, za jednu simku do mobilu 300. Mohl bych to udělat tak, že by to měla manželka v mobilu a do modemu bychom strčili sdílenou sim na stejném tarifu. Zaplatili bychom zhruba stejně, manželka by měla neomezená data v mobilu a doma bychom měli slušnou rychlost. To asi zkusím. Díky za navedení.
Není vůbec zač. Hlavně to chce kvalitní modem a najít místo, kde je BTSka, případně externí anténa. Jen pro představu, toto jsou nové BTS v Brně v Řečkovicích. Jsem šel okolo s mobilem a hodil speed test, bydlet tam, hnedka kupuji modem.
@VildaVedo my máme modem přímo od O2. Takový ten klasický bílý válec od Huawei. Jakou to má má maximálku, jsem vlastně nikdy nezkoumal, protože na 50 to stačilo až až. Jinak modem je na střeše a má přímou viditelnost na BTS, která je jen 300 metrů daleko. Nevím, jaké rychlosti to bude dávat, ale ve stovkách Mb to bude.

Tip: Při velkých rychlostech, když chceš, aby ti nespadla, tak ten modem potřebuje i aktivní chlazení a dobrý výpočetní hardware. Což rozhodně není krabička od providera.
I když popis bílého válce zní slibně, já mám taky bílý válec, ale uvnitř se umí roztočit větráky a chladit. Zejména, když po LAN cpu 100 MB/s.
@VildaVedo tak to bohužel není tak jednoduché. O2 Connect je omezené na konkrétní kategorie zařízení, typicky nositelnosti, a modemy prý úspěšně blokují. Mít to spojené s mobilním tarifem by ještě dávalo smysl, ale samostatně už to znamená za domácí připojení teď v akci za 900 a normálně to všichni mají za 1000-1300. To už je skok ze současných 500.
Co se týče modemu, tak mám podle všeho Huawei B2368-A01, což je vlastně jen LTE modem. Já chci jen anténu a modem, ne žádnou kombinaci s routerem, AP atd. Doma mám všechno postavené na Ubiquity.
Tak to jsou pěkní zmr... u T-Mobile když jsem kupoval SIM v osobně v Brně, tak mi řekli toto.
Borec na pobočce: Hele, vlastní modem můžete mít, jen když bude výpadek, něco se stane, tak jste v tom sám. Nicméně to našim klientům neblokujeme. Ovšem vy vypadáte, že víte, co děláte, takže přeji veselé surfování po netu. 😀

@VildaVedo ještě mě napadlo divoké řešení, že bych tam dal nepoužívaný telefon, ty údajně neblokují, a připojil ho k routeru přes USB-C<->RJ45 kabel. :D
@sesivany To paradoxně není ani trochu blbý nápad a já přesně takto fungoval, než jsem našel vhodný modem a došel mi domů. Cca měsíc, bylo to vlastně skvělé.
Kdyby ten telefon měl 5G a nejen LTE a uměl zastavit nabíjení na 80 %, tak to používám asi do teď. 😃

@TheQuinbox I think it's kind of in the same category as the time, years ago, when a stranger, at the same karaoke bar, took a video of me doing one of my regular songs and posted it to Facebook with a comment about me being inspirational because I was a blind guy rocking out. The post made its way back to me the next day via a friend.
Ugh, I always hate that. It's worse too, because you know they don't have ill intent, at least most of the time, but if you're a doctor and every time I see you I say nothing but how much of an inspiration you are for helping people get medication and feel better, you'd probably get sick of it. Similar thing here, although of course you get to choose your career.
