This is a repository of apps to be used with your F-Droid client. Applications in this repository are official binaries built by the original application developers, taken from their resp. repositories (mostly Github, GitLab, Codeberg).
I really think there is a sense in which they feel entitled to OUR human decency since they killed off all of their own.
It feels as if our "bleeding hearts" actually do matter to them. They want to hurt & destroy us but they also want us to cry for them. They want the sympathy & compassion & simple human recognition that they refuse to give.
Can anyone recommend a headset for use with Jaws, J-Say and Dragon? My wife is still looking at the Poly Focus 2 which is wired or wireless but it sounds like USB wired would be the way to go for accuracy ETC. The hyper X cloud flight we have now works ok but she likes jaws in her left ear so I wonder if that is interfering with the microphone.
I've been very happy with the Audio-Technica M50xSTS. It's closed-back and does sit heavy on the head after a while, but the mic doesn't leak screen reader.
This release adds support for .pkpasses, removes the Stocard importer (as Stocard no longer exists) and removes images from the widget below Android 12L.

I'm watching the F-Droid issue and it looks like Google may release a new version of aapt2 that can run on the older hardware of the F-Droid buildserver but that doesn't seem to have happened yet. Hopefully this changes in the near future.

I'm sure a lot of you know that pressing alt, shift, win, and control on modern Windows opens the annoying MS Office thing. But it turns out you can combine that with letters to launch Office apps and services. For instance, all modifiers with w opens MS Word, n opens One Note, p opens Powerpoint, and so on. Also, here's a reminder that win-control-f24 toggles the trackpad. That's useless on its own, but you can remap that shortcut with AutoHotkey or a similar tool.
To turn off the office shortcut, press win+r, type cmd, press control shift enter, and paste this: REG ADD HKCU\Software\Classes\ms-officeapp\Shell\Open\Command /t REG_SZ /d rundll32
@TheQuinbox Did you know that Windows X followed by either A or I should open up a nice CMD window as well? One for standard, and one for elevated? It depends whether your shell is cmd or powershell as to what your excelerator is.

@cachondo @andrew @FreakyFwoof @TheQuinbox Yup, that office 5 fingered shortcut is ridiculous ! If you buy a Microsoft keyboard, (like anybody does), there's a key that emulates the alt+shift+control+win keys.

Assuming the OS doesn't unravel like Bazzite did, I think I've settled on Pop!_OS. Would I prefer a start menu and a more easily communicable distro name? Yes. But, holy shit, everything works.
@fireborn It began hard crashing (black screen, audio persists, but dies off after 30 sec to a minute). This began to be intermittent, then just when I was opening a video game, and then even while playing YouTube videos in Firefox.
Knock on wood, I haven't seen this behavior in Pop.
Is there any possible way for MacOS to be able to find your location without WiFi being enabled? Surely this must be possible. I mean even with a 3rd party GPS or something. I have a hotspot here that has GPS capabilities, why can't I wire that up so it can read that location data from its API or whatever
I had a boss Once upon a Time who was convinced that your MacBook would be able to triangulate its precise location by using available Wi-Fi signals. That felt like a conspiracy theory, but 🤷♂️. They have a maps app on the thing. I don't know why they would have that but not a GPS module.
I ask because I have automation that ensures WiFi is always off when I'm connected via Ethernet. The MacOS networking always resets the order of preferred network devices so WiFi is first, and even when I "roam" from Wifi to Ethernet it will keep the existing sessions alive over WiFi which defeats the purpose.
So I need WiFi completely off when I don't want to use WiFi.
It would be easier if there was a "DO NOT CONNECT TO WIFI" option but the radio is still on -- then this functionality would still work
it looks like the only thing I can do is automate disconnecting from a hardcoded list of networks I expect to want to disconnect from in this scenario and remove their automatic join preference, then later add the auto join back.
So, like, thanks to the SoundSource app from @RogueAmoeba I am able to move the sound coming from my Chrome window to the left of VoiceOver. Why is this important? Well, I am in a meeting and this helps me concentrate better on what my screen reader says. To top it off, I applied 10-band EQ to the Chrome source to shape the sound to fit in better with VO. I do wish I could pan different sources, not just the main output, though!

Possibly unpopular opinion: the reason I never got into mainstream videogames with accessibility features is because it feels like it basically just plays itself for you. The two largest examples of this that come to mind are The Last of Us and Forza. I'm not shitting on people who play and enjoy those games, I'm glad they enjoy them. But for me, having the game effectively cheat/play itself for "accessibility" reasons just takes all the fun out of it for me. I'm not playing, the computer is. I'm not much of a gamer, but think I'll mainly stick to my audiogames.
wait. OK I generally agree with you, except for Forza. That game does not play itself for you if you don't want it to. You can have audible indicators only, without any of the driving assists, which is how a lot of us like to play it, including me.
@talon see, I like when games do that, because I struggle a lot, and if something becomes super hard to play, and I have to keep struggling. I don't feel like I can enjoy the game anymore, I become strest, and then I lose motivation to even play
I don't think this is an unpopular opinion as much as it is an incredibly mislead and, by extension, misleading one. What's your sample size? Have you *actually* played Forza and looked into the settings that can be adjusted and the amount to which they can be adjusted? Are you counting games that have been modded or only ones with built-in accessibility features? Are you counting games that might not read menus but are otherwise completely or even mostly playable? Assuming the most conservative responses to those questions, in what world is the computer playing itself in Mortal Kombat 1, Skullgirls or Forza (yes, Forza, without full driving assist)?
I agree with you 500% on the opinion that games that advertise accessibility features which end up making the game essentially not a game just aren't very fun. I like being challenged by a game, at least a little bit, and I know that isn't the case for everyone so absolutely to each their own. But I can't fathom how you 1) got to the generalization of games with accessibility features mostly playing themselves and 2) used Forza as an example, which literally lets you adjust how much you want the game to play itself to a huge extent without disabling any of the blind-specific cues. I don't think you could have chosen a worse example! :)
@guilevi Lmao seems I didn't know quite what I was doing when I name dropped Forza, that one was drawn from me seeing someone play it on beginner mode for a couple hours, it looking incredibly fucking boring and easy, and as a result me getting a very negative impression of the game and thinking of it in the same light as The Last of Us 1. That was my bad, but it seems you got my original point despite one of my examples majorly missing the mark due to an admitted lack of research on that particular game.
Absolutely, Forza with full driving assist is just a very good background noise generator if you like your background noise to be angry cars, and I also completely agree with your original point insofar as there are games that will do that if the right set of accessibility features are on. But seriously. There are so, so, so many more now than before that are just, not even remotely close to being like that. And it would be very sad indeed if your opinion was based on TLOU (disclaimer: I have not played TLOU and am sort of turned off of trying it precisely because I've heard it's a little bit like what you describe) and Forza on beginner mode. At any point, I will more than happily advise on something with low-effort setup if you let me know what style of game you'd be interested in trying. The set of available titles is not massive, but it is diverse and hella fun.
@guilevi Re TLOU I think the game is still worth playing, you do get a lot of agency in how you wanna approach the combat encounters and what you want to focus on with character upgrades. The story itself is very linear and I agree the nav assist could make exploration for collectables easier, because right now if you want to find them you have to keep scanning for items and can easily miss things. If you want to see how a system like that can be improved, keeping the option to turn you to an objective but also adding a lot of passive radars for items, doors and walls, look at 1428 shadows over silesia. But back to TLOU in the part 2 remake they added the no return mode which is pure combat with added roguelike elements and that's my favorite part of the game. And in that mode you can ironically decide where you want the navigation to take you.

The state of #InstantMessaging in 2025: I have one virtual workspace dedicated solely to #IM clients. They occupy 820 MB of memory, which is actually an improvement since the last time I checked.
But I still miss the days when all I needed was #Pidgin.
@usul yeah, a lot of people around me do it this way and it makes sense because you only have one web engine running and it saves memory, but I'm an old school desktop guy and if something has a desktop client I prefer it to web clients.
@theron29 you have to have Signal on your phone as the primary client, but then you can connect 4 additional clients to the account. They work independently, they're not connected through the mobile client, not the scrap you get with WhatsApp.
@theron29 I had been checking this just last week and you can use signal completely without smart phone, you just have to be able to access SMS messages or calls.
It isn't nice and not exactly easy but also not really hard. Just use signal-cli and register an account:
@trilobyte I put all but official work slack channels (nda stuff) into matrix via bridges. This way I got all different chat apps down to two. WA, Signal, Slack, IRC, TG are always now available on all my devices via matrix client. Like pidgin++ 😁

To the person who just walked past my house twice: you know headphones exist, right? You can get a nice set of over-ear cans, or cheap ones. There are noise-cancelling earbuds, passive sound blocking earbuds, and earbuds that are open to let you hear. There are even bone conduction or off-ear speaker options. What you should NOT be doing is walking along, blasting your audio book through your phone's speaker so loud that I can hear the words through my second-floor window.
@cachondo I only caught a sentence or two. I'm not sure what it was about, sadly. Whenever I hear someone's book or podcast, I always pay attention, hoping it'll be one I know. Maybe we share a niche interest, or are at least fans of the same popular series.
