In case anyone else needs to put a Windows ISO onto a USB stick and, for some strange reason, needs to do it from Linux, I figured out that I can't just dd the ISO to the USB device, or I end up with an image that my computer doesn't detect as being bootable. I'm most pleased to report that at 12:17PM yesterday afternoon, Kim delivered our son Bertie. He came out with the right numbers of toes, fingers, ears (sadly he seems to have inherited mine) and so forth. It's suddenly astonishingly real, this child we've been trying for (and waiting for) for over 13 years.
Kim's labour was ... Intense. Bertie was a bit on the large side. Seeing her go through something so intensely physical was a real experience. Being at the business end of things during the delivery was an incredible thing also. I was lucky enough to help deliver the head and cutting the chord was special too. Kim did need a couple of stitches, but I don't think the pain relief for that was anywhere near the levels of joy from having her newborn son on her chest while they put those in.
But he's here, all 4.74 kg of him. the induction process started last Sunday, which meant that having the waters broken at about 10:00PM Friday night felt like an age. Building up through early labour was slow and very painful and, I suppose laborious is an appropriate word, but the delivery process itself, the whole "push" thing, was amazingly fast - the midwives were surprised that the head was there so quickly.
Kim's a little sore, but remarkably nowhere near as badly than when she was butchered having Lily, who weighed a good 2 pounds less.
The housework all got done in plenty of time. The mother-in-law has a week with us to be of some use and play with her new grandson. Our daughter is thrilled. even the dog is protective. It couldn't really have been a better end to the start of the next phase in our lives. So please boost a toot to little Bertie Randall. May his life be full of all of the joys the world has to offer.
Awww congratulations on your newborn son, I'm so happy for you man! Its crazy to think that in a few months, I will have a baby brother, that my mum will get to actually raise, as the last child she had back in 2012, was adopted as social services didn't give Mum a chance due to things that happened with me as a kid.

Wednesday. As we hit a hundred hours of Bertie, it's overwhelming to think about how few of the hours I have spent asleep. No complaints, of course, and i'm so grateful for the hundreds of well-wishes from friends, colleagues and acquaintances that have come pouring in. A good number of those were here, so thank you, followers.
Apart from a small issue latching to feed, Bertie's postnatal weight loss is within the normal range and he's certainly doing plenty of lung and bowel work! It's surprisingly easy to just see the hours slip bye with a baby in your arms. Cuteness factor is totally off-the-scale.
It's been a whirlwind of well-wishers, midwives, health visitors, registrars and whatnot: the flood has yet to abate; we have more people to see and boxes to tick for the remainder of this week and well into next.
He's got a birth certificate now though, an NHS number, and we met one of his birth-mates today, a girl born the same day in the same hospital happened to be being registered at the same time. Looking forward to spotting little Alma in the future, and maybe we'll find out if they went for Rose as a middle name sometime. I quite like Alma Rose. She was about half his birth weight; but I'm sure she won't hold it against him!

@smoon spočítané to nemám. Ale běží to prostě na obyč PC s víc RAM a víc diskama. Ale vím, že celkovou elektrickou spotřebou se v bytovém domě nijak výrazně nevymykáme.

I remain uncertain on the ethics of using generative AI, and I know I've posted some hard-line anti-genAI takes here and elsewhere. But if one is interested in locally runnable models, IBM Granite 4.0 is worth a look IMO. ibm.com/new/announcements/ibm-… It uses something other than the typical transformer architecture, allowing for much longer contexts with much less RAM usage. I'm trying to find more details on their training data - the big question is always if they used Common Crawl or a similar collection of web scraped data - I can't see if they used that for Granite 4 or not

@ferda Má to cenu. Ty hlasy se přerozdělí v druhém skrutiniu a počítá se i celkový výsledek strany. Akorát v KV kraji ty menší strany nemají moc šanci na mandát.
Jeden volební okrsek je pitomost - v ČR by to nejspíš znamenalo, že většina poslanců bude z Prahy a Brna, zbylé kraje by měly nejspíš dost bídné nebo nulové zastoupení. Ve výsledku by to působilo v nezastoupených krajích nespokojenost.
@ferda Nicméně, Piráti jako jediní mají v plánu ten volební systém upravit, aby tolik neznevýhodňoval menší strany. Nikoli ale cestou jednoho volebního okrsku.

Letosni Volebni Kalkulacka byla masivni uspech Michala a Kateriny. Vytocili bez Seznamu vice nez s nim.
Zaroven je to muj technicky fail. Chybami v kodu nam uletel ucet na Vercelu. V souctu tesne pod $1000.
1. Server renderovani karet vysledku => request na server na kartu (tohle jsme fixli) 2. Napojeni AppSignalu server-side => posilal obri data a zablokoval cachovani. 3. Pruchod Kalkulackou pres server-router => dotaz na server, ze se zmenilo cislo otazky 2 -> 3.
Jak mám Next v něčem moc rád, tak tohle je fakt bolest – je pro mě hodně těžký na první pohled říct, kde co běží (a často se to může nějakou kravinou snadno změnit!) a jak to interaguje s keší.

Hezky priklad jsou ty karticky. Mas stranku, kde je 50 karticek a data se berou z nejakeho fetche. - fetchnes v page a a vyrenderujes 50 karticek, kterym das ID - v kazde karticce si sahnes na ty BE data a vyrenderujes ji
=> vyrobis 51 requestu na server (page + 50x data pro kazdou karticku).
Cache je dalsi nas fail. Nejspis ten `plugin` napojeni AppSignalu uplne vypnul cache a udelal to full-dynamic (posilal headery do analytics). Takze vsecky ty zmeny otazka 2 -> otazka 3 bezely na serveru a fetchovala se tam data (proc to vyplo cachovani fetche nevim doted).
Mně se kdysi hrozně líbilo ve Swiftu, že API pro práci s řetězci nenabízí přístup do řetězce přes náhodné numerické indexy, protože je to v UTF-8 hrozně drahá operace a lidi by se velmi často střelili do nohy. Next je dokonalý příklad opaku – udělám nějaký zdánlivě triviální refaktoring nebo navrhnu zdánlivě idiomatické řešení a v překladu do infra se stane peklo. To podle mě vůbec není šťastné.

@slesa Leider verlieren die Menschen viel zu schnell ihr Gedächtnis. Nach ein paar Jahren ist alles vergessen, und dieselben Leute kommen wieder an die Macht. Ich verstehe nicht, wie es den Menschen bei uns egal sein kann, dass Babiš strafrechtlich verfolgt wird und in einem Interessenkonflikt steht. Es ist klar, dass das Parlament ihn jetzt nicht mehr zur Strafverfolgung freigeben wird. @tagesschau
