there is a potential workaround -- build pcsc-lite without polkit integration, then it won't even try to talk to polkit and just use unix perms for things i think
@phnt yup that worked. No idea how/why Polkit shit the bed on me, but rebuilding pcsc-lite without polkit integration and restarting the pcscd daemon fixed it

This is actually a lot worse because you're using a screen reader.
A sighted person can just click to load a document, they can then read that document just by moving their eyes across the screen, with 0 interaction required except for scrolling. We have to interact with the computer constantly. The slower the computer, the worse each interaction is. This just causes a drag on everything you're trying to do.

I'm mostly indifferent about the design changes in iOS 26, the majority of which don't affect VoiceOver users and are eclipsed by accessibility and performance issues anyway. But one path of logic I still can't wrap my head around is having an app tab named "Search," the main purpose of which is to perform a search, and deciding that the search field would be best placed as the last thing on the screen.

@menelion It does have scripting capability. I don't know what all TTS options are available for it. I started with DECTALK many years ago so in my Opinion Eloquence is still the best software synth.

You just can't use private messages, hangouts or notifications and probably a couple other bits. but the main funcionality is there; creating new Rambles, commenting, reactions. @TomGrant91

@menelion You can change speed in the html player that appears at the bottom when listening to a post, but not sure if I can set a default. will take a look for sure.

I agree, and yet many, if not most, people allow corporations to collect all of that information, and more. The users sometimes freely give it too. Google, Apple, Amazon, Meta, X/Twitter/Bluesky, every supermarket club card, etc. And many of these companies and their data broker buddies sell this data, so the government doesn’t need to collect it themselves. They can quietly drink from the firehouse of data already available.
