Hey y'all, I'm starting an "ALT After Dark" account, inspired by the wonderful @alttexthalloffame! The goal would be to encourage good alt-text on NSFW image posts, as well as showcasing shining examples of spicy alt-text.
What are our goals? - Promote quality adult content that focuses on consent, community, and accessibility (great alt-text, proper CWs & hashtags) ❤️🔥 - Reduce the prevalence of porn-bot and repost accounts that post without subject consent, without alt-text or CWs, engage in hashtag spam, and lower the safety / enjoyment of folx on Fedi 🚫 - Engage positively with the community and generally be wholesome-ish 😉
How will we do it? - With well-vetted human volunteers. - By leading by example. - With the help if the community.
What do we need? - An ideal instance to host us. - An effort to make the Fediverse a better place. - Volunteers (of which we already have several).
Finally have some free time to start moving away from a Gmail email address. Can anybody recommend a fully hosted email service provider?

Something like Fastmail, with the ability for aliases, and a clean, HTML, designed interface that isn't trying to be an app in a browser? But the ability to view messages as plain text.
Proton Mail is a no go because their LLMs poke all through your messages. I want something without AI bullshit.
I'd use Fastmail but they don't work with my VOIP mobile numbers and constantly engage in union busting so want something else.
#AskFedi I have a UPS with 6 battery-powered outlets, but at any given time I can only use 4 or so because my devices have blocky plugs.
Are there such things as 3-inch extension chords? If I could plug 6 standard-sized connectors into the outlets and get 3 more inches of clearance, I should be able to plug all the blocky things into the far ends and use all 6 outlets.
Is there any risk to doing this? I know generally inserting extension chords in places isn't always a great idea, but since what I'm looking for is only one-to-one and not splitting the connection 3 ways, maybe it's safe? I've found what appears to be a 6-inch extension chord on Amazon, and maybe I'll just get a pack of those, but shorter would be better and I'm wondering if this product I've imagined is sold under a different name. Thanks.

My mother says I'm not the same old Farooq now that I've got an #Android phone. Is there a way to lock some apps like web browser on Android. Then to unlock them I have to solve a puzzle or something. When it's hard, there is less chance I would go for it. And if I do, I probably need it anyway.

Rendering idea: bright flashes should be drawn using a simulated persistence of vision, because computer monitors can only get so bright. And a quick, one-frame flash will inherently look very dark.
I want to write my own cross-platform and accessible for blind users #Mastodon client. There are no #a11y friendly clients for Linux (only some TUI software) and there are only one buggy and unstable proprietary client for Windows called #tweesecake. I already know the stack I'll use but I have one problem. I don't know Mastodon well enough to be sure that I implement every feature which is supported there. For sure I can read the whole API reference but maybe there are easier ways, maybe some list of features, maybe some feature guide for developers, etc.
As a blind user I can't just install any popular and cool client and take all features from it... That's the problem: they are not accessible at all or not accessible enough for every day use.
So, maybe someone helps me with some sort of docs or I don't know :D

So I've been working with GTK4/Libadwaita in Python (in Flatpak), and I'm trying to get notifications to work.
I keep getting this error: "gi.repository.GLib.GError: g-io-error-quark: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.Notifications: Timeout was reached (24)"

Thanks everyone! #Blind #Microsoft #excel users and others who, for whatever reason, only use the keyboard, NOT THE MOUSE: How the hell do I tell Excell to continue a pattern in a column without selecting it and clicking on the bottom left side of the screen or whatever? Let's say I have a column with 1 in A1, 2 in A2, 3 in A3, so forth, and want that to go on for 150 cells or so. How the hell do I do it? Because I know I used to know, but I cannot find it. It's not control+d. That just fills the whole column with 1's. It's not copy-paste; that does adjust properly for formulas, but for this, it doesn't. There is surely an option somewhere in the menus, but I cannot find it. Alternatively, I'd also be happy to learn of ways to do this in #OpenOffice #Calc, so long as they are keyboard-only and accessible. LibreOffice doesn't work all that well here, at least Writer doesn't, but I could double-check if that extends to other programs. #AskFedi #AskMastodon #ScreemReader
Edit: a couple folks suggested using formulas for this, adding so the first cell would be 1, the second A1 +1, etc. That works quite well for most use cases! It would mean the order of the numbers would stay the same when reordering the table though, so if I was using this to autocomplete a list of years, then sold by the comumn Income ... bam, the income of each year's not right anymore. Also suggested was Home>Fill>Series. I do not see a Series option in the Fill menu at all, Bewilderingly. I'll try to switch my language to English to see if that's the issue, but I pressed all the things, so pretty sure it's not there for me in Office 365. Could someone with that version check whether it works for them? Edit2: I figured out how to get to the series option! Turns out it was there, I just didn't realise I had to select the right type of series. For those curious, for the Slovenian version, that's Alt +N, FI, V, Enter.

I'm looking for a flatfile CMS that would let me a) manage everything in a git repo and b) add logic to my site somehow.
Something like Netlify gets part of it right. You can manage content via git and include functions that are mounted at /.netlify/functions, but I can't host that myself and their prices are/were insane.
getgrav.org is closest to what I want and I'm using it now, but its git-sync plugin is a little vicious beast that will murder whatever repo you sync it with unless you set it up just so, and I'm not looking forward to trying to get that right again. When writing articles or documents in general I'd occassionally like to add pictures into the document e.g. a photo or a screenshot. While doing this I am always asking for help from someone else because I'm #blind. Can you give me some recommendations how to make sure the image is right size and it does not overlap the text or the other way round? Either pure HTML, or wordpress or markdown. #a11y #askfedi
