There's a growing movement on the #fedi that wants people to switch away from Big (US-based) Tech and towards #FOSS alternatives like #Linux, alternatives to #google, #Microsoft, #dropbox etc.
For #screenReader users, that might not be as simple as all that due to #accessibility reasons. This weekend's IC_Null stream aims to dig into this, but I need your help. What tools, services etc. should I look at from an #accessibility perspective? Anyone here who needs their tools evaluated? Anyone here who's curious about a particular tool or suite of tools? Let me know and I'll add it to the list. Anything goes. #selfHosting #blind #tech #EU

Re this
Current status: preparing a bunch of #linux ISOs so we can look at installers, first-time experience and a bit of usage from a #blind, #screenReader user perspective on this saturday's stream. hey @danirabbit #Elementary 8's gonna be first in line. Also looking at #kaliLinux , #debian, #fedora, #ubuntu and #LinuxMint #justSwitchToLinux #justWatchMeTry #letsJustSeeIfItEvenLetsMe :P

The weather's cloudy a lukewarm. Perfect for today's stream where I create a "yes, but no" resource for everyone who tells me to just switch to #linux :P
Nah but seriously we'll look at a number of first-time experiences (install, initial boot into the OS ec.) of various popular and less popular distros. I will comment on the #accessibility considerations primarily for #screenReader users and I'm sure other things'll come up. See you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed around 3 PM EST/8P BST/9pm CEST over at twitch.tv/ic_null or youtube.com/@blindlyCoding. My #peertube account is, unfortunately, not approved yet :) #selfPromo #tech #foss #selfHosting #homeLab #stream #ubuntu #debian #fedora #elementaryOs #kaliLinux #blind

I'm calling you out, #ubuntu folks. Please bask with me in the irony of THIS happening when a screen reader user tries to read the accessibility screen of the installer, ALMOST the first screen you see after booting into it. I think we can safely say it ...pushed my buttons youtube.com/shorts/C_I3TCLvVpU #accessibility #linux

Context for this stream is that I'm deliberately not using advanced screen reader techniques and sticking to what a new "switcher" would know to try. I'd occasionally drop out of the VM context and OCR from the host side to give viewers context, but on the whole, the experiment aims to be a retort to " we must switch right now, we must jump ship"-type rhetoric, essentially indicating that that may not actually be possible the way things currently are. I'm not just bullying linux devs either, #fedi services, #foss tools and #european based services will all get a turn :)
