@neil @justine agree. Waiting for the #fdroid release. In the meantime I'll use #k9mail

it's really nostalgic to part with the robo-dog icon on home screen, but there's no better family for K-9 to get taken in by, hands down.
The bark notification sound will stay though. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‹
Big kudos to #k9mail and hello world, thunderbird! #FOSS 4 life ❀️

βœ‰οΈ For the 2nd time I gave #FairEmail a chance, but sorry, no... the setup and settings are so confusing and complex, I am really not able to use it (saying that as a geek is quite surprising, isn't it).
#K9mail remains the best free & opensource email client for #AndroidOS. It is the official #Thunderbird app for mobile. Thank you, #Mozilla @thunderbird k9mail.app/

The #k9mail app does not have its own lock screen or password / biometric protection ... is that right ?? Love the app but without a password protection to protect the app even when phone is unlocked the app does not pass muster. Yahoo app does have this. Please, if I am right, fix this. Thanks!! :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

After a stable release of K-9 Mail, our Android team usually spends a couple weeks fixing bugs. The bug hunt takes center stage in this month's #Android progress report, with cketti and Wolf ironing out a BUNCH of them.

When Thunderbird for Android is ready for release, what will the upgrade path from K-9 Mail look like? Will both apps co-exist? Where does Mozilla Sync fit in?

Alex answers some of your burning questions about our Android plans in this short clip from our recent Community Office Hours session.

Looks good on screenshots. No more 90s #netscape look (I know it was a browser) and it seems now it'a usable for me πŸ‘ To the older versions my brain always said no. ... I don't know if I will try it, because my web login works superb. Maybe when my actual #android client #k9mail will be renamed to #thunderbird then I could use it on desktop as well. Let's see.

Last month we reported on our progress in turning K-9 Mail into Thunderbird for Android. And we promised to do that every month.

So let's get you updated on the latest developments!

In fact, I learnt a lot about how #Thunderbird and @mozilla are actually related, and I always thought it's a hardwired #Mozilla product just like #Firefox.

I'm really looking forward to the improvements in Supernova and also future updates to #K9Mail. I used to be a #GMail user but ran into performance problems on older devices and under bad networking conditions. Not a problem for good old #IMAP! :)

While K-9 Mail is developed in the open, following its development on GitHub can be somewhat tedious for a casual observer. So we’re trying something new and summarizing the most notable things that happened in the past month as we head down the exciting road to Thunderbird for Android!

A few seconds of time here and there can really add up! When you need to send an email NOW, you don't want to backtrack through menus...

So we've added a floating Compose button to K-9 Mail version 6.500 -- available now to test in Beta, on both F-Droid and Google Play.

(Learn how to access the Beta here forum.k9mail.app/t/how-do-i-be…)

If $you ruin #K9Mail as you're constantly ruining our Thunderbird Add-On ecosystem, I'll not be amused at all, folks.
I mean thanks for all the effort, but look what has died already:
#YearView, #DuplicateContactsManager,
#QuoteCollapse
and LEGIONS more abandoned.
I tried to be constructive ever since, but save valuable code! Migrate the most important Add-Ons while you rampage the API.

Thunderbird for Android releases next year, and development is moving forward at a promising pace.

Here's an early (but not final) preview of what the Message View will look like: blog.thunderbird.net/2022/12/t…

The path to bringing you a great email experience on Android devices begins with K-9 Mail, which joined the Thunderbird family earlier this summer.

As we work towards a modern redesign of desktop Thunderbird, we’re also working to improve K-9 Mail as it begins its transition to Thunderbird mobile in Summer 2023.

This will be a great step towards independence from big service providers. I've been using #K9Mail and #Thunderbird for a few years now, and I can't wait to see them married.

Here's a screenshot of #K9Mail's current message view. And two more showing what the NEW message design will look like! πŸ‘€

We've added some comments in the margins explaining some of the new features and UI elements.

Thunderbird for Android is taking shape, and it should be here before Thunderbird Supernova releases next summer!

(Note: This is by no means final, still a lot of polish and work to do)

#k9mail Is on #fdroid and once these two merge, it's likelly to be still available.

I really appreciate the effort and new direction #K9Mail is receiving recently. But for me it all comes a little too late as I have switched to #FairMail a year ago ...
