National parks have a long way to go before they become fully accessible to people that use wheelchairs, scooters and walkers, but there are some adaptive hiking trails. Here are 10 of the best, including the Trail of Time in Grand Canyon National Park and Old Faithful Geyser Loop in Yellowstone, plus how to find info on wheelchair-accessible places in more than 400 parks.

There's a tonne of development energy going into #Lemmy at the moment. I might see if I can raise a PR to fix your issue later when I get to my laptop. Keep raising these issues! #Accessibility issues are difficult to see for people who don't need tools like screen readers, so its great when people who do make their voices heard.

Mac users: Time to celebrate! #RemoteIncidentManager 3.2.0, the first official version for Mac OS, is now officially released!
We would like to thank all of the people who helped beta test this version of RIM and make it the best cross-platform remote support package it can be!

The “#a11y is not accessible” discussion wants to get back to the early 2010s.

It’s a signifier, for some users (for example who are dyslexic) it’s easier to type, you need some explanation, like any in-group language. Even accessibility needs explanation.

It’s not a big deal and the energy is better used elsewhere.

In times when Reddit fades away, accessibility-wise, the dev of HackerNewt, a pretty new HackerNews iOS client has submitted their first #Accessibility patches. The work is not complete yet, but this is the best I've seen in a HN client so far with almost everything labelled. The proper grouping of items and rotor actions are still planned. Feel free to check it out: apps.apple.com/app/id644820197…. Feel free to join our discussion on the app's bug tracker, especially the point on the comment's section. I have a feeling this could be done like in Dystopia but the dev thinks otherwise. Any tips? github.com/devandsev/HackerNew…

One way to put an amazing new audio interface through its paces is to record a demo and review of it. So here you go, this is my take on the Audient Evo 16 and it’s brilliant #accessibility features.

⌨️ Nielsen Norman Group research on how screen-reader users type on and control mobile devices

“Summary: Users who are blind or have low vision prefer dictation over typing with a keyboard whenever possible. Screen readers on touchscreen devices are restricted to a well-defined set of gestures which makes interaction more challenging than on computers.”

.@w3c WCAG should not be developed/designed for the benefit of #accessibility testing vendors. It is there to improve the user experience of disabled people.

I am horrified to say that it is mid-2023 and browsers are moving backward on accessibility support for elements with CSS display properties.

Chrome decided anything with `display: contents` is just text. Safari regressed overall but did tables dirty.

Firefox is the only one to have improved and now has the best support overall.

Is it groovy that #Microsoft has such an engaged #accessibility team? Yup. Is it a downer that they continue to post on a platform that fired its entire accessibility team and killed off the third-party accessibility tools, while ignoring this one? Hell yup. So if you missed it, here’s their #GAAD blog post. blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-iss…

Please, please do not do this under any circumstance, if you care about your instance being accessible to the #blind and visually impaired (hint, you should).

#HCaptcha is a horrible example of how not to implement a #captcha solution, forcing people to register their email address and store a cookie, as well as disable cross origin restrictions on their devices in order to pass validation.

There are much better alternatives, such as the no-hassle github.com/mCaptcha/mCaptcha, which does not need any user input other than checking a checkbox. Alternatively, use captchas that provide text versions, e.g. via solving a math question or at the very minimum, provide an audio version, knowing that it is not ideal for the hearing impaired.

HCaptcha is NOT the future. #accessibility #a11y
