In Gulliver's Travels, the Laputans had a machine called The Engine that put words together randomly, with scribes writing down any meaningful phrases that happened to be formed.

"Every one knew how laborious the usual method is of attaining to arts and sciences; whereas, by his contrivance, the most ignorant person, at a reasonable charge, and with a little bodily labour, might write books in philosophy, poetry, politics, laws, mathematics, and theology, without the least assistance from genius or study.”

The Wikipedia page for The Engine currently says "See also Large Language Model".

There's this whole article about KiCad being broken on Wayland... but apparently it's all just a distro packaging problem???

kicad.org/blog/2025/06/KiCad-a…

The article doesn't mention XWayland at all, but KiCad works perfectly under XWayland as far as I can tell, and that is the default on at least Fedora! wxwidgets (the toolkit KiCad uses) is still flaky under native Wayland apparently, but it is perfectly okay to keep using XWayland for now, and you should! Apps and toolkits should not switch the default backend to Wayland until all major regressions are fixed, that's kind the whole reason why XWayland exists!

Here's a thread on the story: forum.kicad.info/t/not-the-sel…

If you are on a distro that enables KiCad Wayland support by default and you experience the issues in that blog post, you don't need to (and probably should not) switch to an X11 session. Just launch KiCad as GDK_BACKEND=x11 kicad and it should run under XWayland just as well as it does under X11 sessions.

Some distros are dropping support for the legacy Xorg server and X11-native sessions, but nobody is dropping support for X11 apps and XWayland, and nobody should be concerned about running apps in X11 mode for as long as it's needed!

Edit: If you're on GNOME with fractional scaling and XWayland apps are blurry, apparently there's a secret toggle to fix that these days.

Od minuleho ctvrtka si delam reflexi prace s juniornimi vyvojari vs Codex. Nakousli jsme to s kolegou z Kalkulacky.

Rok pracuju s juniornim vyvojarem (placenym) a mesic s Codexem.

Codex me stoji ve VC cenach 5219 Kc mesicne.

S Codexem jsem odbavil 175 produkcnich normo-ukolu => 1 ukol ~ 30 Kc.

Kdybych mel stejnou mesicni davku odbavit juniory stali by me 186900 Kc.

Jedina vyhoda juniornich vyvojaru je preciznost. Vsechno ostatni bere Codex.

in reply to Martin Wenisch

in reply to Marek Demčák

in reply to Tomáš Znamenáček

@zoul Presne tak. Co vacsina ludi ignoruje ze ak toto zacnu robit vsetci, o par rokov nebudu ziadni seniori, a tie tvoje TODO commenty tam nebude mat kto davat.

A co sa tyka ceny, tie LLM tooly pojdu nevyhnutne cenovo hore. Momentalne je v USA obrovska "AI" bublina ktora zerie miliony dolarov denne od investorov, a "AI" firmy sa zufalo snazia najst nejaky udrzatelny revenue stream predtym nez investori stratia trpezlivost. Zatial bezvysledne.

in reply to ticho

Proti prasknuti:
- Demokratizace LLM za nulovou marzi => provider bude vlastnit elektrarnu a prodavat elektrinu v podobe AI.
- Zlepseni efektivity (viz treba Bottlecap AI).

Neni to cernobile.

#AudioMo 18:

This is a silly sequence thing I did in the early morning hours of October 11, 2015, using an Arturia Microbrute and a Korg ARP Odyssey, both analog sequencers, in combination with a Digitech Studio Quad IV processor. I made a very basic sequence using the Microbrute's onboard step sequencer, connected the CV pitch and gate outputs from the Microbrute to the Odyssey, turned on the sequencer, then just played with a bunch of sliders and knobs, including filters, envelopes, effects sends, panning and tempo, all while this simple sequence that really seems to enjoy moving around in fourths continues.

It's nothing that was ever meant to be anything real. Just me messing around on a boring Sunday morning.

For the past five days, we've had to go to the bomb shelter several times a day to protect ourselves from Iranian missiles. This morning, they sent 20 missiles closer to our apartment than any of the previous attacks. One of the Missiles landed in the next town and created a great big hole.

This is what it sounded like from our kitchen window.

The recording Starts with the air raid sirens, and then just before they finish at about 90 seconds, you start to hear the interceptions.

Nebojte, mě se nezbavíte. Pokud bude signál, já přijdu! 😁😁😁

Well, the time is almost upon us, well me and my captain anyway. The big bike ride is on Saturday... 4 more sleeps as they say. Just 4 more days of fundraising and then it's 130 KM of hopefully not too hot cycling. For everyone who have donated, thank you so much, it meanhs a lot for not only me, but for the organizations that will receive the funds. And thank you so much for cheering me on virtually on Saturday. I'll see if I can do a few live audio or videos on here. Have to figure out how: raceroster.com/events/2025/916…

That's rather interesting and odd. I've tried a private browsing window and it was still showing 2024.4.2, then I tried a regular window, and only after CTRL+F5 the issue was resolved, though multiple people are noticing the same thing. Originally it was reported by a few users on the audiogames forum and I wanted to check if you can do something on your end, something seems to be cached that shouldn't be.
