Y'all, at some point down the line, Chrome turned the History search textfield into a pop-up menu that opens along with it as you search, and I'm not sure if I can ever forgive them for it unless it changes. This is horrifyingly bad, you get no typing or feedback of cursoring or deleting (with Windows screen readers), just "Found (X) results for (Y)." Gosh oh gosh. This has made looking up things in history a lot more fun, and it's great that one person's bright idea broke everything for multiple people.

The last version of our flutter library now properly support Linux applications:
- Push notifications are able to start the application
- Push notifications are automatically decrypted

We hope to see new applications on Linux supporting push notifications with this update.

IzzyOnDroid ✅ reshared this.

Another residential high-rise in Gaza City reportedly intentionally destroyed by Israel.
I believe it to be the 4th such occurrence since they started proudly announcing destroying people's homes because, Israel claims, "Hamas" can see Israel's invading troops from that high up and therefore hundreds of people were made homeless, presumably to remove every tall object in the Gaza Strip.

Global Sumud Flotilla today:
─────
Six Global Sumud Flotilla participants are still held hostage by Israel after being illegally abducted in international waters. One Nigerian participant from the Omar Al-Mukhtar Flotilla and 145 participants of Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens to Gaza are also still in detention.

Their detention is not just unlawful, it is a punishment for solidarity itself. This cannot be allowed to continue.

We call on all governments and people of conscience to act now.

Demand their release. Demand accountability.

We will not stop until each one of them is free.

"Beating, kicking, and threats of being gassed in cages.

Greta Thunberg and several others from the flotilla are now sharing details about their five days in Israeli captivity – and how Swedish Foreign Ministry staff left them without help."

so that should tell you something of the magnitude.

The #Signal App gets only a 9 out of 10 for #Privacy protection, and it's not just because it requires a phone number.

"While most of Google’s analytics are turned off in the Signal app, it still uses the Google Maps API to handle location data. Calls to Google Maps turn over a bunch of metadata, including the IP you’re connecting from. For a project that’s so invested in privacy, it’s surprising that Signal doesn’t use an open source alternative such as Open Street Map."

They call a Google API with location data and hand over the IP? Seriously?

Is society really teaching men that women need to be coerced to date them? I see this often, one of my friends goes on a date with some guy, she isn't that into him, and politely turns down a second date, and then he wants this complete breakdown as to why not, and what the problem is, and how she's not even giving him a chance.

Why would you want to keep trying to date someone who just wasn't that into you?

Don't get me wrong, rejection hurts, but it's part of life. Maybe it's movies showing women just waiting for men to call, idk. I don't speak for all women, but if I like a guy or gal, you aren't going to have to convince me, and if you try, that's a pretty big red flag. On the plus side, if you can call it that, the assholes usually betray themselves here, it usually ends in calling the woman a fat ugly slut or some variation, with promises that she'll be sorry when she's a lonely cat lady. So, I guess you at least know how big of a bullet you dodged.

In #Switzerland, fine for a speeding driver is based (1) on how far over the limit the driver is going
(2) on how much the driver earns.

One man caught driving his Ferrari at 137 km/h the in an 80 km/h zone in a village near St. Gallen was fined 300,000 Swiss Francs (today, $375,000 US).

This summer, a driver was fined $153,000 for going 27 km/h over the limit in #Lausanne.

The fine is based on the “personal and economic situation of the offender at the time of the ruling.”

Despite backslash, Mozilla went ahead and added Perplexity’s AI option.
Mozilla’s Firefox adds Perplexity’s AI answer engine as a new search option techcrunch.com/2025/10/14/mozi…

Mozilla is so disconnected from its user base. No wonder they are losing the browser battle. People chose Firefox for specific reasons such as privacy or no AI, yet they keep messing around. I fear they won't be around in a fewz years time. I wish to be prove wrong.

NordVPN added a (long-awaited) GUI to its Linux app back in May. Now, the code for that front-end has been made open source to "better serve the Linux community".

Many people still misunderstand screen readers — who uses them, how they work, and what inclusive design really means.

Ela Gorla has unpacked the most common myths and what they reveal about digital accessibility on the TetraLogical blog:
