With a current temperature of -13°C (9°F), and a low of -16°C (3°F), I think I've picked a good time to start rocking three GPUs. With the two air conditioners that share the circuit with the data center unplugged and removed from their windows, the current going through the craptastic electrical system here is not causing enough resistance to heat things hot enough to cause melting events. However, I will certainly not be leaving the area for longer than a bathroom break, or a meal, with check trips back and forth. If I should need to leave the premisus, I shut these things down, without question. So while it is -13 outside, it is a balmy 26.3°C (79.3°F) in here.
I’ve never thought about it this way, but it’s almost certain that my nonchalant default position about “does LLM training violate a social contract about credit in open source” is related to the baseline fact that I’ve devoted my entire life to open source and appear in (to a rounding error) zero CREDITS or AUTHORS files. My contributions have been stripped, but it wasn’t by AI.

Happy Sunday. I'm going out with my friend Ellen, my old boss Joe and his wife, Vicky. It'll be nice. I miss my old boss. I was respected more, not micromanaged and just enjoyed working with him. Now with the new situation, I like my job but I'm not sure how long I can deal with the supervisor I have now. The stress and overbearing nature of things is next level. We shall see. for now I'll enjoy what I can.
I feel like that makes a big difference, whether your supervisor is good to work with. I feel fortunate to have a manager who mostly leaves me alone to figure out what I need to do, rather than micro-managing me and hassling me, but that could change.
@MikeGorse I worked almost 22 years with someone who waskind and really didn't bother me and expected that I'd do my job well. Sometimes he was too lenient with people who needed more direction but all in all he was a great boss. My current one is a total control freak and often condescending. It's not pleasant.
Very excited that I might soon be getting back on HF ham radio. Got my old radio back that I used to have in Denver and just ordered and antenna. Now just need to figure out where I’m going to put the radio in this small apartment and get the antenna mounted on the house.
I wanna get on HF again... It's been I think 27 years or something like that. I potentially can get access to a couple of remotes soon, so there's that, but not quite the same. Wo sind die reichweitenstarken christlichen Accounts, die mit Gedanken zu #Nächstenliebe, #Empathie und mit der Liebe zur #Bibel und zum Leben junge Menschen prägen?
Die Algos der üblichen Plattformen pushen ja die genannten Dinge nicht, soweit man herausbekommen hat. Insofern scheint es sinnlos, dort gegen problematische Strömungen mit Gutem ankämpfen zu wollen. Ein strukturelles Problem, welches auch auf dieser Ebene gelöst werden müsste. Leider habe ich im vergangenen Jahrzehnt nicht den Eindruck bekommen, dass der größere Teil der #digitaleKirche entsprechend damit umgehen möchte.
Kirche will genau so wenig wie alle anderen öffentlichen Organisationen eine Verantwortung für die gesellschaftlichen Folgen ihres digitalen Handelns erkennen.
Auch die Kirchen haben ihren Auftrag in Reichweite auf kommerziellen Plattformen umgedeutet.
Wer auf die Verantwortung des Einzelnen gegenüber Gott abstellt, müsste m.E. ein erklärter Gegner algorithmisch kuratierter Medien sein.
Allerdings lehne ich Algorithmen nicht generell ab.
Man könnte ja auch sinnvolle bauen und die Arbeitsweise transparent machen. 🙂 Und das ist für mich der Punkt. Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, dass sich Kirchen, angesichts der nachgewiesenen problematischen Wirkung der jetzigen gängigen Systeme auf die Gesellschaft, entsprechend eingebracht hätten. Es sind meistens nur wenige kirchliche Einzelinitativen, die praktisch zeigen, dass es auch anders geht.
Wäre eine der Möglichkeiten der #digitaleKirche nicht, sich z.B. der Initiative #SaveSocial anzuschließen und dies auch in den Gemeinden zu thematisieren?

Assistive technologies like screen readers take information straight from the DOM, so anything like this breaks accessibility completely. Also, I received replies from people using specific fonts (dyslexic-friendly and specific for some low vision needs) for whom it also reads gibberish. No, this is absolutely bad practice.

@trwnh Yes, under some conditions it's readable by humans with working eyeballs, but you are not the first to report that it is not readable in Firefox. I spread it wide for everyone not to even think about doing such nonsense.
perhaps a better title would be, "sacrificing your audience and still getting scraped anyway". as far as i can tell, this doesn't stop scrapers from continuing to scrape the useless information.

You may be fine solving problems you have at least a clue about the solution. Da última vez que sugeri uma biblioteca para resolver uma coisa no trabalho, tive de analisar 3 alternativas, documentá-las e reunir com pessoas. Já o LLM só precisa de dizer "usa X" e as pessoas seguem. 😅 Enfim, há de facto aqui um potencial ganho de produtividade.

Nosotros también vivimos un incendio, iniciado en el piso de abajo, en una madrugada de enero. Y lo solucionó todo el seguro. Pero fue por una subida de tensión que nos estropeó la TV (mis padres escucharon como una miniexplosión proveniente de esta que fue lo que los despertó y a partir de ahí los gritos de los vecinos), el microondas y el router. Y esas subidas de tensión venían repitiéndose desde Noche Vieja, porque ya en la cena las luces iban raras. @oriol @terecodina

A mí en una subida de tensión me explotó un monitor de ordenador, no pasó nada más, susto y olor a cable quemado, pero desde entonces y viendo lo que a mí me sirve los monitores siempre lo tengo desenchufado. @terecodina @lararm Yo en su momento instalé un térmico de protección contra sobretensiones porque en el barrio eran muy comunes. Ya se ha disparado alguna vez. Sólo me da miedo que lo haga cuando estoy de viaje y me joda lo que tengo en la nevera pero si lo pienso, es menor ese daño que si me quema cosas.
