If any part of a project is made with a AI text prompt, why would I support it? An idea isn't worth while without humanities involvement. Real artists would support me. deadline.com/2023/07/writers-s…

So the EU thought: Let's try again!

After several data protection agreements between the EU and USA have already failed, they are now venturing another attempt with the Data Privacy Framework. But US surveillance - the underlying problem of the data sharing agreement - has not miraculously dissipated in the meantime.

That's why the new Data Privacy Framework is doomed to fail - and that is a good thing!

Read here why:

What good is a queue you can't call "push" on, or a mutex you can't "lock?"

It turns out that some common API patterns are bug generators in async Rust code. In the 0.3 release series, I've taken a pass over the OS APIs in lilos (my async embedded OS ) and tried to make the whole OS strictly cancel-safe.

As a side effect, I replaced both "push" and "lock" with subtly different operations that are much harder to use incorrectly. Details in my latest post:

That Google uses the information it gets from crawling the web to power it’s AI features like Google Translate and Assistant is something I assumed was obvious to everyone.

I’ve been surprised that people seem to have drawn the line at Bard and are now filing lawsuits because they didn’t give Google permission to use their data to train AI.

These lawsuits basically challenge entire premise of web crawling if Google loses.

Just published #rust @hyper_rs v1.0 RC4.

We'll let this one bake a few weeks, and if all is well, this could be the last one!

Last night in the small village we're staying in here in the #uk we went for an epic walk and not only caught a stunning #sunset , the sight of multiple scampering bunnies and small cobbled roads near Tudor houses threatened by rampaging topiary... we also finally got to put eyes on the village legend, Mary, care of the "NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT SERVICE THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH MARY" sign at the local tea shop.

She was standing in a very mossy churchyard complaining to the vicar that the Victoria sponge at the last Women's Institute meeting was dry and demanding the vicar make someone called Linda fix the situation.

Meanwhile, the vicar looked like she wanted to put the Asda shopping bag she was carrying over her head and pretend she wasn't there.

How did we learn this was the true Mary of legend and not an impersonator? Her seven-year-old grandson was pretending to be a part of a holly hedge and earnestly informed us that he loves his gran but that his dad calls her a "mithering pain in the arse." He then showed us a pretty cool trick he can do with his scooter. It was very cool.

We then went home to our temporary housesitting #cat overlords Madame Harriet and Miss Smudge, who informed us loudly that they required their 2nd, 3rd and 4th dinners immediately!

It was truly an eventful and rather delightful little adventure.

New instance, new #introduction 😀

This account is all about the community around Fairphone. 📱
So expect posts about community meetups 🗓️, Fairphone Angels 👼, pointers to our fairphone.community forum 🌐 and the occasional update on custom ROMs 🛠️.
We might also boost selected posts asking for help/sharing individual experiences with Fairphones.

Currently the account is run by Ingo /i and Urs /u as you can see in our bio along with the hint that we’re not representing the company Fairphone.

On the fediverse since 29.04.2018, our old instance went poof two days before we could migrate to our new home provided by @paula and the Fediverse Foundation (many thanks for that 👏).

So here we are again!

As we’ve lost all our followers of the old account, BOOSTS are more welcome than ever.

Whoa. Sophos researchers just announced that they’ve uncovered 133 malicious drivers signed with legitimate digital certificates, and found 100 of of those 133 drivers were signed by Microsoft.

news.sophos.com/en-us/2023/07/…

From the post:

"Today, Microsoft issued Security Advisory ADV230001 as part of their July Windows Update that addresses Sophos’ discovery of more than 100 malicious drivers that had been digitally signed by Microsoft and others, dating as far back as April 2021."

"They also released Knowledge Base article 5029033, which includes new, more detailed information on the technical measures Microsoft has taken to protect against these malicious signed drivers."

Have you heard of "Display over other apps" permission on Android? Display Over other apps, or Draw over other apps permission is often used by various types of apps to provide features such as floating widgets, chat heads, or persistent notifications that appear on top of other apps.
