When we bought this Ikea Hållbar litter bin I instantly knew that it's only a matter of time before one of us throws the inner frame together with the bin content to the garbage.
And on last friday I fulfilled my own prophecy.
Luckily I found out there already is a model ready to #3DPrint, so I don't have to do it myself.

Bom dia. Que caos. Eles nem entre eles se entendem.

A claque que (nunca) pediu, histérica, a demissão de António Costa "porque houve muitos escândalos sucessivos em poucos meses" (escândalos empolados por eles mesmos) já tem internet outra vez?

It really looks like the Supreme Court is going to OK outlawing homelessness.

To punish people for not being housed, we're going to...house them…but In jail? And under what circumstances would they be released? If they agree to leave town so they can be locked up in another city's jail for the crime of homelessness? Maybe just straight-up house them, non-punitively, and skip the whole arrest thing? wapo.st/4d8H5N5

There's a village in England named Breedon on the Hill. "Breedon" is a combination of two words—the Celtic “Bre" (which means "hill”) and the Old English "dun" (which means "hill"). So the name of the village is “Hill Hill on the Hill.”

But, wait, there's another! Pendle Hill, also in England, comes from the Cumbric "pen” (which means "hill") and the Old English “hyll” (which means “hill”). So: "Hill Hill Hill.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breedon_…

Oooh. Well it's not my favorite votrax voice, particularly because I'll just need to train it again from scratch with even more data to get phonemes better (like A versus E on their own typed shows you what I mean.) Nonetheless, The Rt-fast Piper Votrax voice is ready: eurpod.com/en_us-Votrax+RT_med… (also updated on my Piper page)

Here's how the Earth article looked in 2001 when Wikipedia was a month old, long before Wikipedians realized their fledgling online encyclopedia would be read (and edited!) by astronauts in space. Since then, the Earth article has been edited more than 14,000 times. It's a good day to read it!

If you wish to appeal the decision, you can approach our new forum admin. I will leave any decision totally up to her and will not attempt to influence her in either direction.

Discussing that specific surgery was prohibited because it reflects negatively on the entire community as it is seen as a fetish, and it would be used to further attack our community as a whole, and likely result in my site being blocked in filtering software products.

Aside from deranged TERFs, who will describe any gender affirming surgery as a fetish, you're the only one who has ever described bigenital surgeries as such.

Most cis people who don't already hate trans people just seem to think it's cool that such things are possible.

Trying to be "one of the good ones" doesn't help.

A lot of folks asked me for a central web page which lists my compiled Piper voices. I am thrilled to say I created one during my lunch break and hit the publish button this afternoon. This page will keep up-to-date with the last modified date for each voice and links for the proper package. It also has background for those wishing to train or get involved with Piper/ Sonata. eurpod.com/piper-voices-of-ret…

Why is Threads doing this? How is the team working with the community? How are they thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward?

I'm curious what my fellow Zeroes think of this study: nature.com/articles/s41467-024…

Personally, I find the claims about immune dysfunction resolution at two years incredibly dubious because the controls were previously infected "recovered" patients. Any comparison between cohorts only indicates how similar those two groups are at two years and DOES NOT demonstrate a return to baseline health.

Also, as bad as the findings were about LC symptom recovery, self-reported resolution of symptoms as a measure of recovery are incredibly optimistic because people tend to overestimate their own recovery as they learn to cope with new health issues and disability.

Abstract: "This study investigates the humoral and cellular immune responses and health-related quality of life measures in individuals with mild to moderate long COVID (LC) compared to age and gender matched recovered COVID-19 controls (MC) over 24 months. LC participants show elevated nucleocapsid IgG levels at 3 months, and higher neutralizing capacity up to 8 months post-infection. Increased spike-specific and nucleocapsid-specific CD4+ T cells, PD-1, and TIM-3 expression on CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were observed at 3 and 8 months, but these differences do not persist at 24 months. Some LC participants had detectable IFN-γ and IFN-β, that was attributed to reinfection and antigen re-exposure. Single-cell RNA sequencing at the 24 month timepoint shows similar immune cell proportions and reconstitution of naïve T and B cell subsets in LC and MC. No significant differences in exhaustion scores or antigen-specific T cell clones are observed. These findings suggest resolution of immune activation in LC and return to comparable immune responses between LC and MC over time. Improvement in self-reported health-related quality of life at 24 months was also evident in the majority of LC (62%). PTX3, CRP levels and platelet count are associated with improvements in health-related quality of life."

I can see this in a myriad of ways. IIRC, self-report measures are valid. If these can be replicated in larger populations, again, valid.

However, you make a solid point- it looks like objective tests should be added to the mix. You could also do a study of self-report v objective test to determine if self-report has validity or is too heavily skewed into uselessness. I could be totally wrong on this musing.

At least this study acknowledges LC. It's a beginning.

I saw a comment awhile ago, from someone running a Long Covid study. They'd tell people about the study, people would say "I had covid and recovered fine! I could be in your control group!"
Intake interviews showed 40% of people who said that, did not qualify for the control arm. They're fine EXCEPT they still can't smell or taste / they stopped exercising because it feels so bad now / they had to stop working due to brain fog.

40% of "I'm fine!" are not fine.
