Irgendwie hat er mich damit an einer Stelle erwischt, von der mir nicht bewusst war, dass sie wehtun kann.

That bothers you? THEN STOP #ISRAEL

Uh: So spotify for desktop is convinced that my computer is unavailable whenever I try to switch to it, on, need I remind you, the desktop app. What the fuck?
in reply to Haily Merry

Haha I am not. We use what's comfortable tbf. I just can't deal with Windows any longer, and both my study and work are kind of multilingual, and the more I can break something, the better for me. At least I can tell all friends what sites not to shop from XD.
in reply to Winter blue tardis🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis Honestly I got kind of tired of VO bugs in Mac OS, also I was having to do Windows things in Parallels anyway but I didn't have enough internal storage, womp womp. Also I've been to Linux land, like Mac OS but with less apps, is my honest verdict.
in reply to Haily Merry

Well, Windows doesn't work for me. I dealt with so many MS and language issues, I got tired of it, and when I started studying linguistics and I needed braille, Mac was the thing to go to, also iPhone, iPad, airpods and the watch, which I bought to track my heart rate because it was going dangerous. So, my est investment honestly.
in reply to Haily Merry

I also don't have storage soo, when I want to play games I just go and deal with windows. Hahaha. I have way too many windows computers, and I want to install linux on one that has win 11 but meh well, no speech in bios makes me not want to do this, at all.

OK so I guess I'm going to keep doing these because it's pretty fun. I've found the script that loads the paywall for The Washington Post. Simply block `washingtonpost.com/subscribe/static/tetro-client/fusion/tetro.min.js` with your favourite URL blocking extension (I use AdNauseum) and the paywall doesn't show up. For educational & research purposes only. Please remember to support journalism if you're able to. Have fun! washingtonpost.com

I wrote a small tool in Go that will filter my inbox for messages older than <x> days (currently 30, for me), delete the ones sent by known spammy addresses or common subject lines, and move the rest to an Archive/<message year> folder. If the archive/<year> folder doesn't exist, it gets created. I have a thing that will run this every week and notify me about the changes. This is easier and more intuitive to me than designing automated email rules, which rely on server or client support.

in reply to Procrastodon

I love this name can I join? LOL. I probably won't one instance is enough for me, I am getting old but that's really funny. I boosted you so you can federate. Yay! Make people boost you. But this instance has 8k instances it federates with sooo, look that thing go up and up and whee! Be happy!

I have my Mastodon server working ... mostly.
It seems there some kind of problem when searching for users on other instances. I was able to interact with my admin@procrastodon.net account by mentioning @admin from this account, but before that, neither account could seem to follow the other. The biggest clue I have is an error 500 that shows up in Mona when I try to search for users after switching to the Procrastodon account. I think Tweesecake performs a search with many of its user-related commands and just selects the first result, so I assume it's also failing there. I don't get any visible error if I search with the web interface, nor can I seem to find anything in logs--although that's likely because I just don't know where to look.
Curious if anyone has ever experienced something like this, or knows where I can go to get some slightly more useful troubleshooting done.

in reply to simon.old

Yes, this usually happens when your account is new. Trying to search for users from it is the better option. If that does not work, then something broke, but GTS definitely did that. Until we interacted with over 7000 instances and search was no longer an issue. :D

So I have a question for all you out there. What is this whole woke movement? What does it mean if you are a woke person? me, @pooch754 and his mom are all curious.

anime about urban planners and transportation engineers redesigning city roads so fewer people get hit by trucks and isekai'd

subplot about city politicians having to deal with a grassroots group of disgruntled NEET types who fight against traffic calming measures and pedestrian-only streets because they wanted to get isekai'd to escape from their dead-end lives. "what am i supposed to do? be in a chill slice-of-life about one of those quaint sidewalk cafés catering to pedestrian tourists? i want to fight through a dungeon god dammit!"

After previously having started an insurrection, Hitler came to power after state institutions and government FAILED TO BAN HIM from future elections.

Made another handy #accessibility guide, this time for your science plots!

Our plots can have lots of messages in them, so try and tell the story of the main message. Here's a guideline/template and some tips on how you can describe your plots that works for me.

Hope folks find this useful!

(I am using one of our pulsar observations to demonstrate how I have used this template in the alt-text for this image)

It's finally time. After years of deliberation, #Minetest is finally ready to adopt a new identity and prove it has moved beyond its original purpose. We can finally move past the "mining" and the "testing" and focus on making this platform the best it can be.

@chipiguay just me going back through the previous history and adding all the names to the list that should have been added before. So the bump is a "lie", a correction of previous omissions.

I agree. Don't call it "favorite" then. dragonscave.space/@jscholes/11…

I favourite a lot of cool stuff on Mastodon. I'd love a service to go through that stuff on a regular basis, pick some of it at random, and remind me of it. Maybe by email, DM, or whatever.

Note: last time I mentioned using favourites in this way, Mastodon's corrections brigade came out in force to tell me I should be using bookmarks instead. Please don't do that again.

84%! It's bringing less than one sixth of what it did pre-takeover!

That's one stable genius, right there.

@drew but like, to be honest... Who cares? It's not like Elon bought it to appease investors...

I just wrote a tip for the book about how difficult I found it getting the new BSI activation gesture to work. TURNS OUT. My BSI Activation Gesture setting was toggled off. On my new phone? Anyone else see Off as a default? Also, if you can’t get the gesture to work, go find that toggle in BSI settings. #a11y #ios #voiceover
in reply to Shelly Brisbin

Never seen this by default off. I don't think the gesture is described well by Apple. The language sounds too confusing, at least to me. I like how someone described it in their podcast: "simply place your fingers as if you were about to type the letter C. Now, type it twice". Works for me! :)
in reply to victor tsaran

@vick21 I read that somewhere, too. I agree. Makes much more sense than the way Apple describes.

in reply to Peter Saathoff-Harshfield

Sections of Fifth Ave in the Gaslamp Quarter were closed to cars and open to people, enforced with permanent-looking metal bollards. It was nice to have a space for people to exist without noisy, dangerous cars being everywhere, and Aubrie liked being able to freely roll in the street rather than having to maneuver along the sidewalk.

I'm taking a semi-break from posting here at the moment, but I hope everyone has had a good weekend. I do have some Christmas music news coming in the next post.
