I'm reading Eichmann in Jerusalem, & something I wish I had been aware of sooner is that this is not just an important text about Nazis & the evils that ordinary people can commit without batting an eye.
It is *also* an important text about Israel & its history. Hannah Arendt is also critiquing Eichmann's trial as a type of show trial & pointing at the Zionist ideology & propaganda on display.
I'm primarily reading because I'm interested in how Arendt's insights into the mentality of people facilitating genocide without feeling guilt or remorse can be reconsidered & reinterpreted in modern American life.
I don't know if I will fully agree with all of Arendt's interpretation, but it feels like her work is a great place to start.
Is anyone aware of works by Black or Indigenous authors (or other POC) that either deal directly with Arendt & her ideas about the "banality of evil" or that cover similar topics?
I'm interested in the psychology of "normal" people who participate in, support, or tolerate genocide happening around them, & would especially benefit from perspectives of colonized people on this.
mixed feelings. obv will go downhill under Qualcomm: end of era. OTOH I can respect if Arduino's founders/owners wanted to get rich, esp as a way of de-risking the lives of them and their loved ones. cuz very risky/chaotic things on the horizon, across near and medium term scales

Despite the recent media reporting, #Windows installation with local accounts is working just fine. Create a regular Windows installation media and drop autounattend.xml to the root of the USB device and install it.
If the installation demands you to connect to the internet, you can bypass this part by pressing Shift+F10 and then entering oobe\bypassnro + <return>. After the installer restart, you'll have the "I don't have internet" option, and the installation will proceed.
EDIT: To clarify: While I did not test the latest insider build I believe this method will continue to work, even with it. I'll be sure to edit the post if this turns out to be incorrect.
If you have an iPhone 16 (of any kind), this is your reminder that you can set up an automation in the Shortcuts app that turns on silent mode when you leave home, and another one that turns it back off when you arrive.
I used to keep my phone on silent all the time, mostly to save myself the embarassment of forgetting to flip the switch before an important meeting. With the physical switch gone, this is no longer necessary.

Any other NVDA users finding that accessibility recently completely broke in 1Password desktop? I'm only seeing this on one machine, so not sure if it's a 1Password update or something somehow machine specific.
I'm not seeing any obvious accessibility regressions. Using 1Password for Windows 8.11.12 (81112027) NVDA 2025.3 Win11 Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.6584)
I just updated here and NVDA's actually doing better! I was on 8 but some point releases behind, and NVDA would read with a bunch of extra verbosity when tabbing through the items in a vault entry. At least on first run anyway, it's no longer doing that. Hope you can get it sorted!
I tend to use the browser extensions more than the desktop app, and it's always been a tad clunky to navigate, but it seems to be working fine here? What was specifically going on?
@x0 NVDA just reports "ChromeLegacyWindow" and "unknown" everywhere in the desktop app. All controls are completely inaccessible. Technically, this is because NVDA is unable to query for IAccessible2, but I don't understand why.

@tspivey @x0 Aha! Thanks. I just discovered that the working machine is using the Windows Store version of the app, where the broken machine isn't. They're both the same app, just packaged differently. Wondering whether that's related.

1Password works but not until you login. That part is screwed up and requires Narrator or JAWS to get it to work right. It's the oddest thing. @1password

The Standard Model? Grand unified theories? Clifford algebras? The octonions? Entropy? Category theory? Quantum logic and projective geometry? Visually beautiful math?
These would all be easy, since I've got the material prepared. I don't want to explain something brand new - at least not until I've covered some of these. Each of these topics could take at least 10 videos.
(I've got a drawing tablet now, so I'm ready to make videos where I show slides of stuff and also write while I talk. It will take some practice to do it well. I thank @Garrett for offering to pay for the tablet. It proved unnecessary, but it helped push me into action.)
