I'm looking for an audio adapter where I can plug the USB end into my PC and an aux cable into the other end. This aux should be a stereo (Not Mono) mic input so I can get sound from another device to my computer in stereo.
All the adapters I found on Amazon have been mono. Any recommendations?

It's very hard to find something that is actually stereo, line level and 3.5 MM on a simple dongle like that. The potential for noise is pretty high, too, when you start introducing common earth ground. There are some 3.5 MM mic level stereo things out there that you can sort of fake to be line level, like the aforementioned old adapter here, but the couple I've tried had so much DC offset it isn't worth using for anything much. M-Audio used to have a reasonably clean one that did Mike/line, but that was only packaged with some junkie inaccessible software, far as I know.
pretty much everything I use is balanced in and out, so I can't really help too much.
if you are looking for something very tiny, I don't know, but there are lots of options with 3.5 MM stereo line level I/o, or RCA, which is easy enough to adapt, but you will sacrifice size.

Beta 2 of Braille display Calibration tool: Added a pause function, where you can hit P or enter to pause. I'm still labeling it beta until I know quirks are ironed out for people. Whether you're using a single-line or a multi-line Braille device, calibrating the dots and a way to clean them by raising, then gently wiping, can really work. Here at home, I'm testing this tool using the Brailliant BI 40X as well as the Cadence. When I write in Spanish with the Spanish keyboard, I have to hold my finger down on say the an and then drag right to get the acute acute. the not tilde is right there on the spanish keyboard, but you have to drag quite a lot. On January 1, @samtupy open-sourced some of his older games. Among them is "bloodshed, release the pain!" This is a side scroller where you try to kill the enemies who are coming after you and score as many points as possible. You have several weapons at your disposal, many of which require ammo to work. Along the way, from time to time, items appear which give you more ammo, health packs, extra health, and other things to help or hinder! your journey. The higher your score becomes, the faster enemies appear, the harder they are to kill, and the faster they move toward you for their attack. Also as the score increases, the playback speed of the background music increases. This is one of these games where you eventually die no matter how good you are simply because the enemies eventually appear faster than you can deal with them. During the death sequence, once all play has stopped, the playback speed of the background music slows down to baseline. Normally this works quite nicely. But a few days ago, I managed to have a run of luck, and achieved a final score of 612,301 points. Due to the way the speed formula works, that meant at the time of my death, the music was playing approximately 62.23 times faster than normal. As you can imagine, it took quite a while to slow the music back down to normal. Here I present a recording of this event. First you hear the final few seconds of gameplay, then I die. After that, you hear the music, playing at incredibly fast speed. I used a dynamic audio normalizer to make the music louder at this point so you can clearly hear what's happening. Then, over the next more than six minutes, the music slows down to normal. Because of the way this works, the slower the music gets, the faster the rate of slowing seems to be. Finally it reaches normal speed and the score is announced. Enjoy!

Maybe it's the constant turmoil of the world and/or me longing for simpler times in life, but today I found myself setting up the development environment for Rockbox, the alternative mp3 player firmware. I haven't even had a player for over 12 years.
Rockbox was the first real open source project I started tinkering with back in 2008. Obviously my skills back then weren't good enough to get any changes accepted, but learning to set up various toolchains, building my own custom patched binaries and just hanging around a well-maintained project (and getting rejected for not abiding by the rules) turned out to be invaluable experiences later in life.
Just for fun I did a simulator build (Rockbox has truly excellent simulators for all their supported players) and was at home straight away. Nothing much has changed in all this time. So much of the tech I use has been enshittified in the past 10 years that using a piece of software whose UI has been essentially unchanged since when I was a teenager felt just incredible.
I enjoyed hearing my machine click click away every day at 6 AM to create tons of TTS uploads for Rockbox and upload them to my server back in 2006. Those were the days.

The most popular one these days seems to be the Aigo Eros Q (also sold as HifiWalker H2, Surfans F20 etc.). Some prefer older iPods modded with SD card adapters.
I still use rockbox every day. Annoyingly, there are more sandisk clip pluses available than zips, when the zips use the Micro USB connector and the plus uses the mini.
That's a good thing in my book. Never saw the point in micro over mini. I used a Clip plus for about 4 years every single day until I gave it up for listening to streamed content on my phone. Before that I had a Sansa E250. Loved both players in equal measure but for different reasons.
Yes and at least with the plus the build quality was excellent too for an all-plastic thing. The belt clip on mine did snap off though but that didn't really bother me all that much.
It's not just that. I want access to navigation, notifications, BeMyEyes, bus / tram schedules and all that. Until we get consistent BLE everywhere and true multipoint, and that won't be anytime soon, no device except my phone is really going to work for me.
My thinking as of late has been that if I'm listening to music or a book I don't want to be distracted by anything other than really important notifications. That also includes ways to distract myself, i.e. scrolling through social media or what have you. The idea of being constrained by a device whose sole function is audio playback feels appealing to me.
That makes sense. In my case, I want BeMyEyes when at home and navigation / tickets / schedules when not, and I want those more than I want no distractions.
I quite like voicedream and eloquence together, but given that I find what to read on a computer much of the time anyway, a card in my clip which syncs whenever I charge it works fine for me too. Voicedream can't pause between tracks, which I find invaluable, and I also struggle to get it to reliably resume whilst wearing air pods.
I also prefer the distraction-free, single-use device, and especially when doing things around the home don't even have my phone about my person some of the time. Something weighing about 15g is a most convenient carry and I've just grown used to using these things over the last decade or so.
This makes me want to go back to using a dedicated player for maybe a week just to see how many little iOs paper cuts I've got used to. Unreliable resuming is certainly one of them.
I still remember feeling so disappointed when I got my first iPhone after 5 years of Rockbox. It felt so lacking and poorly optimised for media playback. It didn't take long for the convenience factor to win me over but my first impressions certainly weren't positive.
On my mac, VO will say Authentication, application, application or something similar every minute or two. It's really annoying and shows just how bad this platform is. I'm guessing the screen saver kicked in or something and it just can't deal with it, or my ssh session is causing it. But I still hear that even after I closed it.
It would do this on my end if the Mac goes into Screen Saver on its own, super annoying. What I do is just hit the power button to lock it, then it won't do that.
@johann Ah yes, thanks for that reminder... I now remember... I simply disabled the screen saver to get rid of this behaviour. I have not seen it on my system for a while...
I got stranded at the Utrecht Centraal because they cancelled all the busses. It's insane that they did this when all the snow has already been cleared. If private cars are running, then busses should run too. I've experienced delays and cancellations, but I've never experienced the transit company just straight up giving up. This is the most disillusioned I've been with Dutch transit. The company should have their contract revoked.
it took some annoying network refactoring but I've moved my Wireguard tunnels from individual hosts behind my firewall to the firewall itself so the firewall can do the needful incl using blocklists instead of having to do per-host firewalls which is really stupid, especially when a bunch of my stuff is in VNET jails. We were able to reduce our direct gasoline/diesel consumption from 1,061 liters in 2024 to 366 liters in 2025 by purchasing an electric car. I can't wait to reduce it to zero. I know it's a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that I'm not personally contributing to the oil industryāespecially after today's news.

@serrebi You can always use GitHub with the support of tools like Codex or similar ones. Honestly, the only Git command I remember is `pull` ā Codex handles the rest for me. Even that nice back-and-forth dialogue between the two LLMs was running automatically. I told it to keep refining things until Gemini had no objections. š

#Trump has offered NO details about what the #US running #Venezuela looks like. Will there be an US official there in a leadership position?
As he justifies the #military operation, Trump argued that #Maduro sent members of Tren de Aragua to the US to terrorize the US. Trumpās own #intelligence community earlier this year debunked that claim, finding that the gang was not controlled by the Venezuelan govt.
In declaring that the #US will be ārunningā #Venezuela, #Trump has raised a host of questions: Will the US have an occupying #military force? Will it install a pliant government for some number of years? Will it run the #courts, & determine who pumps the #oil? All of this, of course, could enmesh the US in the kind of āforever warsā Trumpās #MAGA base has rejected.
Trump spoke about bringing in US oil companies to remake the #energy infrastucture &, presumably, to exploit oil reserves.
#Trump looks like heās falling #asleep on his feet as Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff describes the mission. Iām waiting for him to fall over.
When asked how much running #Venezuela, potentially for years, will cost, #Trump said: āIt wonāt cost us anything.ā
His claim that the #US wonāt have to spend any money because it will be āreimbursedā by the #oil the US will take āout of the groundā is a total fantasy.

I haven't played with this yet, but you might have solved one of the hardest problems that has been plaguing the Mac community for years, that of high audio latency on Windows VMs.
It won't fix gaming (and some people apparently do care about that), but it'll fix other things that are important productivity-wise.
@miki there is no way to do win+tab. Capslock works, so long as you don't have VO's modifier keys set to capslock. In addition, you can remap the capslock key within the app itself to another modifier, tested working
Okay, better than 99%+ of the apps out there. I think cmd+tab would be doable, UTM has an exclusive keyboard mode that does it I think. Are you on Catalyst or native OSX, if the former, that might be more difficult.
@miki so I was actually smart here, and I have two separate apps for iOS and MacOS that share an NVDARemoteKit base between the two. MacOS has it's own native interface, and so does iOS have it's own native interface.
@miki Basically, I made it a goal after October when I graduated from this independence training center for the blind that I was in, that I was going to actually make an effort to learn iOS/MacOS app development, so that I could make cool things for myself and others for iOS especially but also MacOS, and well, here's the start of the result of that work.
@miki I don't just want to make apps, but I want to make apps that feel like they were meant for VoiceOver users. I'm going to figure out all the fun things VoiceOver lets you hook into, and hook into them where applicable.
Now I just wish a framework that let us do this without losing Windows support. There are basically no good options here. Either you go full Mac, or Mac is a second-class citizen at best.
@miki I'm willing to put in the work of maintaining separate code bases, where applicable. If that's what it takes to make fun things, then that I shall do.
Hi, speech queuing massively broke things. If you spam down arrow, it will continue speaking, and each key press won't interrupt it. I had to go back to 1.010 where this works fine.
Speculation: I think your speech queuing works fine, that's not where the problem is, I think you have a problem somewhere in the protocol handling itself, because now that you've made it queue everything, it does what it should. The problem with the previous builds was when NVDA itself received one string while reading another one, those two weren't queued. All of the above was using VoiceOver announcements for me, though I could try with TTS as well.
Alright, yep, this is definitely much better with TTS. I was hoping to avoid configuring my speech rate and voice, but oh well, I'm happy with it as long as it works.
@NikJov Unless you use multiple languages, as I do. Would be great for it to support language switching if it doesn't already; maybe some sort of TTS profiles too.
@jscholes @NikJov Yeah, I was afraid someone was going to ask for this. Understandable as it is, I've never really been sure how to implement something like this. I believe NVDA sends language codes and whatever, but the issue is ... Selecting a voice to use for that language without creating some kind of interface for mapping languages to their voices. First one it finds? I dunno.
@NikJov This is one of the few areas where VoiceOver outstrips the competition. As a language learner, I can set up that mapping, prioritise my list of profiles, set parameters like rate on a per language basis, have it switch speech engines on the fly, and quickly opt into and out of automatic switching via the rotor. It's not perfect, but it does mostly just work.
Contrast that with NVDA's frankly abysmal support for multilingual users. It can only switch between voices of the same synthesiser, uses the same rate regardless of language, doesn't support the concept of multiple voice profiles at all without an add-on, doesn't offer a way to quickly switch languages manually, and gives the user virtually no control over how the voice for each language is selected.
Finally, even though I've said it in an email, not sure if you got it, but thank you for your work, the app is truly awesome regardless of the typical rough beta quirks. Controlling a PC via a touch screen is something that I had as an idea for a long time, and I'm glad somebody took it up.
I tried this as a "to be controlled" machine on an intel mac and had two issues to begin with. First, is it possible to have the unit host its own server rather than using a relay? Secondly, when adding the software to accessibility settings, I found that it wanted me to get the software from finder. Is there a method of having it just as a switch in the dialog? Vmware, as well as RIM, did this, as I recall, but it's been quite a while since I installed them so my memory may be at fault.
@techsinger I'll have to roll my own NVDARemote Server in Swift, but I think it should be possible. As for the second, there's a bug which means that it doesn't show up automatically in settings until you actually try to control a device. Once you send the first key, it'll pop up.
@techsinger OK, coming back to self hosting. I've done this, but since I had to add a new network connection entitlement, Apple has to review the damn thing all over again. Sigh.

SelfHosting week 0, phase 2A, documentation. There is one thing I find quite uncomfortable on @yunohost documentation: the emojis at the beginning of every chapter. They are very annoying to read for a blind user when going back and forth heading by heading with a screen reader. And, worse, when you attempt to isolate links through the "link list" or "heading list", "element list" whatever name used by screen readers for that feature, you cannot choose an item by initial letter and get into it quickly, from the list that pops up. The "element list" feature allows a user to press a shortcut and find items of the same type, organized in a list. Links, headings, form controls, etc. So, if it is the table of contents in a documentation website, you have all chapters ordered. You press down arrow in the list, till you find the desired element then press Enter. Or, better, in a normal situation, if you have to choose "domains" for example, you pop up the link list and type "d", then if Domains is the first, you press Enter on it. Or at least, links with that initial are isolated by pressing the letter over and over again till you find the desired one. But this YunoHost docs are full of those emoticons which maybe are pleasant for sighted folks, but not for blind. Not at all. #accessibility #a11y #blind #docs #SelfHost #SelfHosting #YunoHost
I'd say, it depends. I personally love emojis and find them not only making documentation lighter to read, but also use them as orientation markers (I'm totally blind). However, your point about first-letter navigation is absolutely correct. #Accessibility
I listened to the whole press conference given by Trump on his invasion of Venezuela and unprovoked abduction of a sitting president to fetch the nation's oil. Not a single question by journalists was posed to challenge the legality of the action. If power isn't challenged, there isn't freedom of the press. Trump isn't more democratic than Maduro, he's less so.

It's very hard to find something that is actually stereo, line level and 3.5 MM on a simple dongle like that. The potential for noise is pretty high, too, when you start introducing common earth ground. There are some 3.5 MM mic level stereo things out there that you can sort of fake to be line level, like the aforementioned old adapter here, but the couple I've tried had so much DC offset it isn't worth using for anything much.
M-Audio used to have a reasonably clean one that did Mike/line, but that was only packaged with some junkie inaccessible software, far as I know.
pretty much everything I use is balanced in and out, so I can't really help too much.
if you are looking for something very tiny, I don't know, but there are lots of options with 3.5 MM stereo line level I/o, or RCA, which is easy enough to adapt, but you will sacrifice size.
