Today I heavily argued with a Hosting and VPS provider called IONOS; there's the domain ionos.com which brings to American site and there's no accessibility statement in that page. On the Italian though, ionos.it, on its footer I found an accessibility statement claiming this company took care of disability needs. It was very affordable. For 10 euro per month or so, I could obtain the Linux VPS L plan, with something like 4 CPU cores, 16GB RAM and 240 GB storage. I don't remember if it's exactly the amount of the offer but now I'm not talking about service's details. Attracted by the offer I have subscribed to it and the products presentation and e-commerce procedure was actually accessible for screen reader users; but as soon as I has the service in hand, control panel and especially firewall rules, inaccessibility came. As an example, on a single firewall rule, the edit button was labelled with "y", the add with a "@" sign, the delete with a "]" (closed squared bracket) sign. First thing I did was going to that accessibility page. There was no specialized e-mail for that kind of support but they linked to a contact form. Clicked on it, it redirected me to a German-speaking page. Last time I spoke German was 1999. And what did I find there? Phone numbers and a live-chat with German automated answers but nothing on accessibility. I called them (Italian support) and warned them about the issue, they've been polite with me. I admit I've been quite unkind though, as I was angry. But I managed to obtain contract cancellation and they'll refund me tomorrow. But this issue must not remain under silence. What I'm asking is to all Ionos customers all over the world, to make them aware of this. It hasn't to pass under silence as this habit of placing a declaration without concretely working on accessibility, is becoming more and more normalized. They find more convenience in violating the laws and losing customers, than create a real remediation. And there are many faults for this: companies do their own interests, with no doubt. But our fault as people with disability, not to have stood up too much for the cause, or standing up in the wrong way. Not to have pressured governments about investing on LEARNING more than "tou must create accessible sites". You must create, but how many 30-40 years old developers have the culture of accessibility in mind? How many companies and school have a real decades-long accessibility learning program? No one wants to mock disability I'm convinced of this. But this practice is due to lack of basic awareness. We can not pretend of nothing. I'm not inviting anyone to boycott. the main problem is the *signal*. Signals are super annoying when doing layered software, when doing threads and more. Ignoring signals is expensive (and annoying for a library).

This means that on average, every single line of production code has been touched four times. Written once, then updated three more times. And yeah, some lines of course many more times than average, and some less so.
To get this number, we count how many lines of code we have added up to a point in time, ignore how many we removed, and then divide with the number of lines of code still there.

I'm looking for an application where I can quickly colaborate on short otes with someone. MS Word/Google Docs and all that stuff would be overhead. Just give me a web application people can type in and it auto updates for everyone, so everyone can look at text without people doing dumb screen shares which leaves out people with no vision. The closest I could get is Joplin, but for a short dumping down some text it's just overhead to configure an account on my Joplin server, have the other person setup the app etc...
@BrailleScreen @TheQuinbox Heck this has even more usecases than I thought of in the 1st place. Also a great place to just dump a text to copy from device to device real quick.
@BrailleScreen I want to someday expand it to be actually like mini google docs, with folders and multiple documents, but it works for what I need it to do for now. Glad you're getting some use out of it!
@TheQuinbox @BrailleScreen For instance, I recently had a situation at work where someone did a Teams screenshare just to share a notepad he was typing into. This made me feel the urge need for something like that for people to write/edit their stuff in there so I can just read it as well because having to ask or the other person needing to read it out is ridiculous. I've just did a little vibe coding to the HTML file, it now respects your dark mode setting and looks a bit more like editor, e.g. the edit box fills the entire browser page and isn't just a little edit box at the upper left corner, I mean this was quite significant for sighted people to use this. No idea about Claude doing good practises on this or sth, should I just create a pr or leave it for myself?

Usłyszałem w radiu od jakiejś posłanki (osoby poselskiej płci żeńskiej), że jest pomysł na ograniczenie (wzorem Australii) dostępu młodzieży/dzieci do socjal mediów. Bo (między innymi) za dużo korzystają ze sztucznej inteligencji, i dochodzi już do nawiązywania relacji, co nazywa się ponoś sztuczną intymnością. Moim zdaniem - bzdura. Sztuczna intymność zaczęła funkcjonować wtedy, kiedy ludzie zaczęli korzystać z tzw. portali randkowych. Czyli jakieś trzydzieści lat temu.:)

FWIW, I like the Debian model were the project leader is elected for one year at a time, by the electorate. For Debian that is the project members ("Debian Developer"), I don't know what that would be for curl? (Everyone with commit in the past year? Some self-perpeptuating board?)
@liw That arrangement requires a sort of constitution - a mission statement that cannot be changed. Otherwise, expect some random actor to sign up a thousand developers, then have them all vote for the same leader, then update the rules. Or change the license.

It is true, though. Dynamic analysis is nowadays the simplest way to find the actual implementation, and after a while you learn where things probably are. So many function pointers.
about a billion years so I needed a SHA256 function in Lua. Existing bindings to OpenSSL didn’t cover it, so I set to add it. I was beaten back by waves of confusion (which apparently got worse, somehow??). In the end I bound to WolfSSL. Not as fast but actually designed to be embedded. It was like ten lines of C.

I really hate to say this bluntly but I'm going to say it. I will not boost your stuff if you're using "AI" art in the cover or in the promotional material.
There's a lot of other people who won't either.
I would rather see the cringiest possible clip art than see hot "AI" garbage. I'd rather see the same five public domain photos off of Pixabay and Unsplash again and again than see "AI" garbage.
We don't want LLMs fucking with the writers' side of things. Don't use generated images to fuck with the artists' side of things.

Right now it relies on eSpeak only for one thing: turning text into phonemes. The actual sound generation, timing, and prosody all live elsewhere. The big question ahead: how hard would it be to decouple from eSpeak and build our own text→phoneme layer? The answer is: non-trivial, but very doable — especially for languages like Hungarian, where spelling is regular and stress rules are simple. The hard part isn’t DSP. The engine already works. The real work is linguistic: normalization, phoneme rules, edge cases, and a lot of listening and iteration. It’s the kind of challenge that rewards patience more than clever tricks — and honestly, that’s part of the appeal.

I recently had a need for a recursive C++ lambda that captures variables. This isn't possible in the intuitive way; you get: error: variable 'someVar' declared with deduced type 'auto' cannot appear in its own initializer. Oi. I feel so bad for creating more projects for myself. But eh not really. It gives me a lot of learning, and actually if anything I can look into how NV SpeechPlayer does synthesis forming itself, something I can't do so well with other synths. Even if it wasn't completed and early stages, and later they got into Espeak, doesn't mean it's a throwaway project.
@kaveinthran Yeah, part of me is curious what improvements I could make to the synthesis itself, but getting ahead of myself a bit. Just getting it working / built for more modern NVDA is a good first goal LOL. The key thing you have there is the SpeechWaveGenerator which to make from scratch would take me something like weeks or months. So already I think just having it for re-use is huge. @NVAccess @jcsteh
