Herrlich skurrile Rundfunkgeschichte! 😁 youtube.com/watch?v=LsssdwQueQ… #DDR #Ostalgie #Radio

Wait, if this scales up would this let us run these things on, say, our phones? If it replaces the transformer, could it replace other uses of the transformer, like Whisper? If it can do that and deliver equivalent or better results for those kinds of speed-ups, ML applications on edge computing will explode, again. And given the accessibility benefits of some existing tech, imagine being able to run that on something other than the cloud!

AzuraCast 0.18.0 Stable is now available, including new features (Meilisearch, master_me support, and more) and a bug fix for a low-severity issue where existing user accounts can inject JS into header menus. This vulnerability largely affects multi-tenant (i.e. reseller) installations.

Pull vs push: intentional notifications
secluded.site/pull-vs-push-int…

I’ve recently noticed that many of my peers are sometimes overwhelmed by the internet; they feel as if they’re stretched too thin and that their attention is constantly shifting between too many different platforms. I think a portion of that feeling comes from systems that bombard them with push notifications. Reducing that barrage — on all systems, not just phones — could be a great way to start building a healthier relationship with technology.

I've only recommended one VPN service, ever (and no, I don't have any financial relationship to them): Mullvad. They have always seemed to be one of the few entities that practices the mantra, "You don't have to protect what you don't collect."

This is quite a press release:

"Mullvad VPN was subject to a search warrant. Customer data not compromised
20 April 2023 NEWS

On April 18 at least six police officers from the National Operations Department (NOA) of the Swedish Police visited the Mullvad VPN office in Gothenburg with a search warrant.
They intended to seize computers with customer data.

In line with our policies such customer data did not exist. We argued they had no reason to expect to find what they were looking for and any seizures would therefore be illegal under Swedish law. After demonstrating that this is indeed how our service works and them consulting the prosecutor they left without taking anything and without any customer information.

If they had taken something that would not have given them access to any customer information.

Mullvad has been operating our VPN service for over 14 years. This is the first time our offices have been visited with a search warrant."

All devices have a unique node.name property that you can use to identify it. 'pactl list sinks short' can show those. To automatically load/save links you will need to make a script (using pw-link, for example) or use one of the jack tools like jack-matchmaker to link based on pattern matching.

An #anthropologist attends a #CPAC conference ( #conservative #RightWing #America) and reports on their findings of the attitude towards #trans folks.

This being @SAPIENS_org, it is well thought through, fully supportive of trans folks and focused on debunking some of the #myths that the right perpetuate.

I'm really pleased to see serious #academic #writing focused on supporting trans folks. Will the right wing read this? Probably not. Will people who are unaware of the attacks trans folk experience every day read this? Quite probably. Will it help to increase understanding, empathy and allyship? I sincerely hope so.

I normally post these on Twitter, but it just occurred to me I could try doing so here: MIT Technology Review has an open call for pitches, for our upcoming issue on ⚖️ethics⚖️. We're looking for *big* swings: features, investigations, profiles, and sharp essays at the intersection of #ethics and #technology. Rates: $1-2/word.

Pitch deadline is tomorrow: April 20. Short notice, I know! If you have an idea, but need a day or two to write up a pitch, send me an e-mail (see technologyreview.com/how-to-pi…)

Ich hab mal ne ganz bescheidene Frage, gerne auch an die #neuhier Fraktion:

Was fehlt euch an #Mastodon ?

TFW you're typing up a detailed "WTF, help me debug this" post, go to paste in some widget details from NVDA's logs, only to discover that the likely cause of your issue is the giant pile of tracebacks a few lines above the stuff you were going to paste and you just didn't know to look up. I wish screen readers weren't essentially tunnel vision without the vision.

Of course, I have no idea how to make them not that, but still.

I love that the Rhodes Mark 8 exists. I'd never be able to afford one, and sadly I don't think the official vst plugin sounds as good as the real thing.
But it's just wonderful that they're making Rhodes pianos again.
I love this video of them demoing the model with built-in effects.
