Stop using #Mailchimp.

Mailchimp (a proprietary mailing list and customer CMS platform) has updated its terms of service.

Mailchimp is planning to feed your email content and customer contacts into its AI models.

Mailchimp's email generating AI might spit out content that infringements on another person's copyright. And the new Mailchimp terms of service say you are legally liable for that copyright infringement, not them.

Like the legend of the phoenix, we're resurrecting Mozilla Send, an end-to-end encrypted file share service, and bringing it under our wings as Thunderbird Send. In this clip from S1E5 of the ThunderCast, developer Chris Aquino gives us a sneak peek of the new - wait, old - er, reborn project!

Learn how #Thunderbird Send will help you overcome your file upload woes, respect your privacy, safeguard against abuse, and hopefully change your #email experience for the better.

Rust people: I've just shipped a cargo-dist prerelease with a bunch of exciting new features. I'd love to get eyes on this from interested parties. The new features include:

* The ability to install packages from the system package manager before the build runs
* The ability to visualize what your binaries link against
* The ability to create statically-linked Linux binaries that use musl instead of glibc

Let me know if you give it a try!

We're looking to hire a #SeniorSoftwareDeveloper. This role isn't just about coding - though you will specify, design, and implement improvements, features, and services - it's also about understanding the needs of our diverse community. We especially encourage applications from people with backgrounds historically under-represented in #research and #scholarlycommunications. If this sounds interesting to you, please apply or share with your networks: crossref.org/jobs/2023-10-12-s… #jobopening #hiring

It is good to be optimistic about how technology may benefit people, but skeptical of the claims of those who stand to profit from a given venture.
It is great to be pragmatic about each use case after decades of widening inequality & accumulating harms.

This is the latest #youtube "innovation". #Google with a market cap of $1.7 trillion and $120 billion cash on hand, "needs" to charge for ads on YouTube.

This is, of course, not true. They have more than enough revenue to run YouTube without ads in perpetuity, but they want to please shareholders. The #Peertube community is showing how you can distribute the costs of hosting content as well. If you don't support Google's continued monetization of monopolized video...vote with your feet.

You can resize the columns by hovering the mouse cursor over the edge of column headers, and after the cursor changes to the ↔ symbol, clicking and dragging the mouse horizontally, releasing the button when appropriate. ↔️

We'd also love your feedback at Mozilla Connect, where it can have a wider audience with the community, including developers. connect.mozilla.org 🤝

матрикс нельзя советовать даже технарям, не то что обычным людям. У него багов больше чем фич, его использовать невозможно. История чатов спонтанно пропадает, верификации сбрасываются, все медленное и лагучее

For #projects today: sqlite-diffable

I really like keeping data in a git repository. This turns out to work great for anything less than a GB or so, and it's by far the quickest way I've found to get a version history of how data changes over time

Since I also like storing data in SQLite, I built an experimental little tool to dump a SQLite database out in an easy-to-diff format (even easier than a SQL dump itself), ready to commit to git:

Resources is a modern interface for managing your system's processes and your open applications. See what programs you have running, and kill the apps that are wasting resources. If you want to see if that helped, you can view the usage graphs for your processor, memory, GPU and more. With Resources, keeping your system in check has never been easier!

It's #FreeSpeechWeek - but is there reason to celebrate? With freedom of speech under fire from increasing surveillance around the globe our basic human rights - the right to privacy and the right to freedom of expression - are trampled upon in too many ways.

The promise of the free and open internet has failed and in its place a system of chilling effects has been instituted.

Mám v plánu jí dopřát důkladný servis a obytnou úpravu včetně zateplení, nezávislé topení už má. A pak v ní budu bydlet 🤩🤩🤩

A few recent games that I really liked:

- The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood
- Stray Gods
- Cocoon

I wonder if the studio felt pressure to make the graphics look at least somewhat "modern" given that they were developing a high-budget (for an indie studio) game.

Interesting that the fan noise was noticeable for you as well. Given the centrality of audio in this game, I would have figured that minimizing fan noise would be a higher priority. But then, I'm visually impaired, so what do I know?

¡Es verdad! NVDA ha permitido que mucha genteacceda a una computadorasin pagar demás. Por desgracia, los absurdos requisitos de hardware de las nuevas versiones de Windows, hacen que mucha de esa gente se quede resagada. Y no parece haber alternativas.

"NVDA is a screen reader that has allowed me to access a computer, without the need to pay an
additional cost. I have used it in elementary school, middle school, high school and I am currently
using it in my university studies.

I would like to thank NV Access for developing this screen reader that has benefited us so much.

I would like to thank all the people who make the project grow into what it is today. Together,
we form a wonderful community"

I always visit #YouTube without preserving cookies from previous visits, because I don't want their tracking or their recommendations based on my browsing history, but this seems to also stop the "you're using an ad-blocker" popup.

Here's how I configure Temporary Containers (medium.com/@stoically/enhance-…) in #Firefox to do that.

The first screenshot is the basic configuration; the second is some optional additional settings I use so I don't have to click quite as many things every time I open a new YouTube tab.

A quick #GNOME #Crosswords Editor development update. I added better selection for grids, and used it to add a feature I've wanted for a while: clue fragment highlighting.
