‘You too Could Have Made Curl’: Daniel Stenberg at FOSDEM thenewstack.io/you-too-could-h…

I have two H1Essential recorders so I made a short recording of the firmware update process on the second recorder, in case it helps someone more than the anti-useful text instructions. Assumes you know how to navigate the menus and not much else.
To download the necessary file, go to the below link and select "H1essential System Version 1.10 (Released 02/28/2024)".
Open the zip file and copy H1essential.BIN to the root of your SD card.
TL;DL:
1. On the recorder, go to the system menu and select Firmware. The recorder should announce the current firmware version.
2. Press enter/F4 a second time. The recorder will say "firmware update, cancel."
3. Scroll to "Execute", and press f4 one final time. The recorder will not say anything, but will display something like "Please turn off the recorder to finish updating."
4. Turn off the recorder. This will play the standard power off sound.
5. For good measure because I don't know for sure whether this is necessary, wait about 15 seconds and then try to turn the recorder on. This will make no sound.
6. Wait 2 minutes and try turning the recorder on. If you slide the power switch too early, nothing bad will happen, so you can use this to check whether the firmware is still updating.
7. Go back to the system / firmware menu and verify that your version is now 1.10.

The best way to truly support my work on #curl, is to make your company pay for a support contract: curl.se/support.html

I work full time on #curl for wolfSSL. Support customers make me get paychecks. Paychecks let me buy food. Food makes my family happy. A happy family lets me do more #curl. More #curl benefits ... well, you.

"Nvidia shares surge past $700 driven by demand for AI."

LLMs are deep learning layered neural networks of matrices, during forward propagation, inputs are multiplied by weight matrices and the results are added together to produce an output which becomes the next layer's input hence CUDA and floating point arithmetic.

But what if you didn't need multiplication? Seems this news has not reached the market yet. arxiv.org/pdf/2310.11453.pdf

Hi! Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

NV Access is pleased to announce the release of NVDA 2023.3.4. This is a security patch for those using the stable version of NVDA. Read more and download from: nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2023-3-…

I've been an open source advocate for a long time, and use it daily. One of my favourite GNOME apps is Paper (flathub.org/apps/io.posidon.Pa…) however the author no longer has time to support it and it is in desperate need of updating.

So I've decided to fork it and update it, you can now find Folio on Github (github.com/toolstack/Folio) and Flathub (flathub.org/apps/com.toolstack…).

I just found out that in the past few months there has been work happening in @gnome to allow for encrypting user home directories using #systemd homed : thisweek.gnome.org/posts/2024/…

It appears as though this would put each home directory inside its own LUKS container that would be locked when the user logs out or the hardware suspends. This would be a major improvement to the security profile of #Linux on the desktop!

Currently, on most systems (including Linux) regular user data is only effectively protected by system encryption when the hardware is completely turned off, but not when it is suspended.
