It's done. Now it’s your turn, Oracle.
We’ve submitted a formal petition to cancel the JavaScript trademark: it is generic, Oracle has abandoned it, and Oracle committed fraud on the USPTO during the last trademark renewal.
Oracle has until January 4th to respond, or the case will go into default, which will result in the trademark being canceled.
It's time to #FreeJavaScript.

There are loads of ways to transfer files from one phone to another device, but what about literally grabbing and dropping files?Hadlee Simons (Android Authority)
I installed #Signal and #Conversations_im on a clean install of #GrapheneOS on my Pixel 4a and measured the battery impact. The results are shocking!
Both messengers had only one contact: my regular phone.
I used my regular phone to send messages to the Pixel 4a (which was not used for anything else over the course of the experiment).
I always sent the same message via Signal and #XMPP (mixing up which app went first). In total I sent ~32 messages in intervals of 10mins to a few hours.

A PSA for people active on #Bluesky: your block list is PUBLIC information.
A website that tracks Bluesky stats – which I am not naming here on purpose – makes this job super easy: you can enter *any* username and see the accounts a user has blocked.
(Yes I tested it with my account and was horrified)
I'm alarmed by this because the information could be weaponized for abuse.
Muting may be the safer choice then?
Please read up about Bluesky here: dustycloud.org/blog/how-decent… (by @cwebber)

We began donating to @Blender 10 years ago. #B3D has improved so much since then and is now a primary tool for our small creative agency. They're asking for more support so we've increased our giving. Please take a moment to consider if you can give too: fund.blender.org/ 🧡

Celebrating our first anniversary, our next #NixOS meetup is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18 at the Mathematikon in #Heidelberg. For the first time, we are separating our Nix and Rust meetup, so be prepared for another announcement of our Rust anniversary meetup.
No matter if you use #Nix
or #Lix
on #Linux or #macOS, everyone is welcome to join us.
Pizza and drinks will be provided. If you plan to join us, please register for the event here:

One year after our first Nix & Rust meetup, we are meeting again in Heidelberg for our first anniversary! 🎊 Note that for the first time, this meetup is only about Nix and NixOS, the declarative package manager and Linux distribution.rheinneckar.events
As talk, we'll be hearing from @notthebee who recently tinkered on using #NixOS to power his couch gaming PC.
For our anniversary, we're reserving more time for hacking, troubleshooting and networking than before, so feel free to bring your laptops, projects and #Nix problems with you! And even for complete beginners, this may be a great opportunity to learn from more experienced Nix users.

I wrote about why I confronted Rep Nancy Mace at the #ProjectLibertySummit: not to convince hateful bigots to stop hating, but to spark a conversation in the tech policy space about what our strategy is going into the next four years.
Will we cozy up to wannabe fascists in the name of "finding common ground"? Or will we build meaningful resistance to tech-enabled human rights abuses?

The goal of my protest wasn’t to convince bigots to stop spreading hate. It was to spark conversation among advocacy groups and philanthropists about how we resist tech-enabled fascism.Evan Greer (Touch Grass)

1. Tuta is not in Debian repositories (nor other important Linux repositories)
2. Tuta desktop client is not a native Linux app, but powered by Electron

I don't know if this applies to the whole Linux community or just Tuta users in the Fediverse, though. 🤔
