Hi everyone, a new version of the wrapper based bestspeech NVDA addon is available. This adds the custom voices by @rommix0 and the unvoiced volume setting. It also attempts to hack NVDA's indent tones into working, people more experienced with NVDA addon dev will have to tell me if this hack caries with it any consequences though I don't think so. I apologize as if you've already installed the addon previously, this might break your saved pitch setting and other parameters (I'll try not doing that too much). I have set up a version that gets compiled with a github action on tag and can be downloaded at github.com/samtupy/b32tts_wrap…, or @datajake1999 feel free to update your version based on the current main branch of the repo. Just installed it, had to use the voice setting rings to go back and forth and when reselecting Fred it mostly goes back to normal, now trying to figure out the way to get it back to how it was sounding before, as I had it to like literally the same setting as the old BrailleNotes.
@alexchapman yeah sorry for twiddling with the settings like that, hopefully that shouldn't happen again but I needed to do that in order to add the voices
@alexchapman My goal was that pitch 10, fundamental freq 80, would be the default. I think that's based on Rommix's Fred voice though, I don't know what the braille note set it to.
I remember the BrailleNote being at pitch 8, but obviously you didn't have stuff like inflection. I think I have found that sweet spot, pitch 9, inflection 65. I think... I think I got it on the nose.
@alexchapman @fireborn pitch 18 is exactly that, it's moved so we can get the higher voices more accurate in bestspeak like Granny at higher pitches I've noticed, so pitch 9 is now what pitch 18 used to be.
@fireborn @alexchapman So at least with the fred voice, pitch 10 should at least equate to the default pitch of bestspeech itself which is 80 in their units, for whatever that's worth. This trying to match the braillenote stuff is interesting to watch, because different people seem to think that the exact sound can be found by using different values than another person who also is convinced they've found the perfect original sound, so I don't know what to tell people there lol.
@fireborn @alexchapman I don't get it. All pitch 8's sounded at least the same to me, I don't remember the classic's though as I only seen one and it was ages and ages ago. Once Eloquence took over in KeySoft later versions, I heard more of that than Keynote.
I think the confusion is with the fact that once Eloquence took over, when changing back to Keynote gold, if you didn't pay attention, the voice settings for Eloquence would still be applied. This lead to some people hearing it at a higher pitch, because Humanware were lazy and did zero to adjust pitch when people changed synthesizers, so to some, pitch 8 was never reset back to it. Very interesting that Humanware's mistake leads later to bite us in the ass (it may have been opposite, come to think of it: I think Keynote would have sounded a bit lower for those folks when switching.)
@fireborn to me it feels like, the version of the DLL that had the multilingual synth may have had a higher rate limit, although could be wrong on this. It could be why the BrailleNotes could go quite faster, so doing some sort of comparing between the Win95 VXD and the DLL would be interesting there.

Weird how often we over-engineer stuff that doesn’t really do anything.
There are plenty of plug-ins, libraries, and tutorials that will add an “estimated reading time” visual cue to your site. There are also browser extensions for users. Most use JavaScript and CSS to calculate based on word count and viewport position.

And the trend of gaming layoffs and shutdowns continues as WB just closed Monnalyth Games, and cancelled the Wonder Woman game said Studio was working on. Monallyth was also the place where the person leading accessibility on God of War went to work after that game came out, so I was really curious to see how accessible that wonder woman game would be.
