i wanna make something very clear. we absolutely do not "talk too much about Jews in the Holocaust". in fact, we don't talk about them enough, because we don't talk enough about the Holocaust. many white people, especially though not exclusively in formerly Nazi countries, *really* don't like to think about the Holocaust. they want to see it as a done thing, something of the past. "yeah, it was bad that it happened, we shouldn't do it again." but the thing about genocide is it's not a thing that happens, then ends. there's a reason we separate genocide from other crimes, and that is that genocide is not just murder. victims are not just killed, they are erased. their memories gone, their part of culture not coming back, their language fractured so thoroughly it can irrevocably change and lose its identity within far less than a decade. the Holocaust didn't "happen". it's still here. it's echoes ringing like that of a large bell, inseparable from the sound of the original strike.
and i wanna make something else very clear. the reason non-Jewish victims of the Holocaust aren't talked about is *because* we don't talk enough about the Holocaust. because people want to reduce this historical moment of people coming together in hate to erase other people in their entirety to just the phrase "six million Jews". the persecution of queer people and Roma and Jehovah's witnesses and Slavs and disabled people wasn't a separate thing, in fact many of the victims from those very groups *were also Jewish* (a fact that modern Nazis know when they deface their momorials with anti-Jewish slogans).
the Holocaust makes people uncomfortable, which is why they try to solve and reframe it. sit in that discomfort. think about what it means.
I try to be thorough and as generous as I can manage, particularly in my long-form AI-critic writing, but this video articulates something a bit less diplomatic: ultimately using it strikes me as somewhat shameful and embarrassing. But Dr. Collier puts it better than I can.

Based on my reading of the original Nature blog post, it seems to me that the ChatGPT UI was less than clear about what turning off the data consent flag would do to *existing* data. So I blame OpenAI, not the professor. I think it's misleading to state, as Dr. Collier does here, that he clicked a "delete" button without realizing what it would do, and especially to take that as evidence of brain rot. We need to be careful not to succumb to confirmation bias.
@matt there is some evidence that the professor may be misrepresenting the “data consent” button that was clicked, at the very least. lots of people in the comments saying that it really is a big red “delete” button, others saying it’s different in europe because gdpr, but I don’t think I have seen anyone saying that they see precisely what he claims he saw. otoh maybe openai patched it since the article is bad press, so we can’t check now. the infrastructure of our lives is built on sand

In FastSM, Tweesecake, and other blindness-specific clients, there's an odd problem. If I open a URL, there's a very good chance that NVDA will simply say "unknown". The URL opens, and Firefox gets focus, but I have to alt-tab away and back before NVDA will see that Firefox and my webpage exist. Sometimes, this doesn't happen at all. I don't know if it's the Python library used to open URLs, or something with NVDA, or a problem in Firefox, or a combination, or something else entirely.

The bing behaviour described by neocities i.e. exclusion of site + surfacing unofficial / malicious clone sites is the exact same issue we saw a few years back.
We eventually resolved it after signing up to bings' webmaster tools and manually requesting crawls - and I marked it up as a fluke.
Seeing that it wasn't a one off, I have to conclude that Bing is a terrible search engine that will sometimes just censor sites while sending you to possibly-malicious clones.

Das hier ist Teil 2 meiner Erfahrungssammlung mit Sharkey. - Man kann Leute zu Listen hinzufügen, ohne ihnen zu folgen. - Statt nur schnöder Bookmarks gibt es hier: Favoriten und Clips. Clips sind sowas wie Lesezeichen-Sammlungen, man kann also seine Lesezeichen thematisch sortieren. Und falls gewünscht, diese auch öffentlich teilen. - Ich kann hier definieren, wie mein "Standard-Emoji" aussieht, mit dem ich auf eure Posts reagiere. Also statt des Sterns reagiere ich so: , ausser, ich will spezifisch anders reagieren. Dann kann ich mit jedem Emoji, dass mir hier so zur Vergügung steht, reagieren. Aber das hab ich ja schon im Teil 1 erwähnt. Ist halt einfach zu schade, dass ihr das nicht seht. Stellt euch das bitte künftig einfach irgendwas mit Kühen vor, wenn ich was von euch Fave (Weil ja, @monkee hat extra Kühe für mich hinzugefügt ) - Antennen: Das ist sowas ähnliches wie Hashtags folgen, bloss ausgeklügelter. Ich kann eine Liste von Stichworten und/oder Hashtags erstellen, und in eine Antenne packen. Also z.B. alles, was mir so an Kuh-Stichworten einfällt in eine Kuh-Antenne. Entsprechend hab ich in meinem Deck jetzt ne Spalte mit Kuh-Content. - App fürs Smartphone: Nutze ich derzeit nicht, Browser (resp. diesen auf den Startbildschirm "installieren") funktioniert für mich ganz gut, und bietet naturgemäss alle Funktionen, die Sharkey so bietet. Was bei mir nicht funktioniert, theoretisch aber wohl funktionieren könnte, sind Benachrichtgungen (Pushs). Kann an Vanadium liegen (nutze GrapheneOS). Oder an meiner Unfähigkeit. Ob es Apps gäbe? Nun, gefunden habe ich keine, die Dokumentation gab mir darauf auch keine Hinweise, oder ich hab die Hinweise überlesen. Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass jene Apps, die mit Misskey funktionieren, auch für Sharkey funktionieren. Wenn man sich die aber anschauen will, stösst man vor allem mal auf viele japanische Zeichen. Also hab ich aufgegeben, und bin mit der Variante über den Browser happy genug. Die alten Haie und Haiinnen dürfen gerne korrigieren und/oder ergänzen. Mir gefällt an Sharkey besonders gut, dass Antworten auf Posts oder fortgeführte Threads nicht so zusammenhanglos in die Timeline geworfen werden, sondern immer der vorige Post gleich mit angezeigt wird. So erschließt sich der Zusammenhang besser und man hat weniger Klickerei oder Sucherei.
Apropos Suche, die ist nicht so doll. Da muss ich oft auf meinen Mastodon-Account ausweichen.

This is a repository of apps to be used with your F-Droid client. Applications in this repository are official binaries built by the original application developers, taken from their resp. repositories (mostly Github, GitLab, Codeberg).
So yeah, USB ports in Windows have a memory of what you jammed in them and the list can become extensive. I just ran this nifty little utility called Device Cleaner and it found 166 non-present USB devices. I deleted them all with this utility and now my computer seems happier. Ok, cat owner having a breakdown has their key in transit to them by post. They could have had it today at their leisure but they "don't want me near them", which is great because I am not up to driving anyway.
Phew! May this live rent-free in their head for a few months and only ever again in therapy sessions.
Moral of the story: Make the best choice you can in a given situation, plan to be able to make better choices in future, and do not take responsibility for other people's interpretation of your choices.
I'm grateful for this experience showing me I trust my actions, and I behave with integrity however I can. I'm grateful for this experience giving me insight into how I can affect others and how I did affect other people when I acted like that. I'm grateful I can avoid acting like that now. I'm grateful I wrote down exactly what happened as it happened in the Cat in a Flat booking chat. I'm grateful I didn't compromise my needs more than I felt was fair.
When someone treats you badly and refuses to change their behaviour, it is not 'bad' or 'failure' to block them. If you feel reasonably sure they may continue to act carelessly toward other people, it is not 'bad' or 'failure' to report their messages. You exist too. You're allowed to curate your environment to be more tolerable to you.
You are not their parent (probably) nor carer (probably), and NO ONE is getting paid enough to be mistreated.
