If you use Foobar2000 on Windows and are tired of not being able to jump to a specific time in your currently loaded track, this teeny Foobar component I wrote over the weekend will help you out. It gives you a new assignable keyboard shortcut that, when pressed, brings up a dialog asking you to enter a time to jump to. It accepts `H:MM:SS`, `M:SS`, or bare seconds. It also supports decimal fractions (e.g. `1:30.500`). Currently, you have to build it from source and copy the DLL in manually, but in the coming days when I have some free time I hope to make it a proper fb2component. This weekend I discovered two AI related things:
1) GPT voice mode is really worse than text chat. It just tells you something which is not true at all. Same question asked via web really better results with sources. I am currently using gpt pro because thei give e one month of free access.
2) Google gemini can transcribe files. Just open gemini.google.com, throw the file and tell transcribe the file. Not sure how long files can Gemini handle.

I composed this melody long ago on my old Yamaha PSR 225 keyboard. I forgot that it even existed until Andre released this amazing addon.

On my way back from my parents' to Vienna and I was driving through the Czech Republic. In tribute to that fact, have my first NVDA Composer thing - Jozin z Bazin by Ivan Mladek, because we all need some more songs about swamp monsters called Joseph, or something... Could be better but given that it took most of the 4-hour ride to put it together, I don't think it's bad. Haven't found the special Nokia mode with the wav exports yet which could have saved it. Shall we call this #Composituary #NVDAComposer?

Under normal circumstances, I would be at work this evening broadcasting an interview. But the guests canceled the show, so here I am playing around with NVDA Composer.
First, I created a basic melody in NVDA Composer – it’s a Slovak folk song. Then I imported it into Reaper, added some modern samples from Nexus, and this is the result.
You might ask why I didn’t do it directly in Reaper’s step sequencer. Because that wouldn’t be nearly as much fun. Hmm, seems that for some reason I can not upload mp3 dyrectly to this post, so here it is.

We highlight the "Switching from Jaws to NVDA" guide, we have tips for running NVDA on a Mac and creating a new NVDA Shortcut.
We hear from a user on their achievements in 2025, and we want to hear yours! And finally, a quick tipe from @JenMsft here on Mastodon on Using Clip with the command line!

in reply to NV Access

Greetings. I would like to submit a request regarding future NVDA updates.

Currently, there is an issue where keyboard shortcuts remain in the gestures.ini file even after an add-on has been uninstalled. This often leads to input conflicts with other add-ons installed later.

Could you please implement a mechanism to ensure that all associated shortcut entries are automatically removed from the gestures.ini file during the uninstallation process?

in reply to sweet pepper
@kingoffire That seems a straightforward request to understand. I wonder if there would be technical challenges to overcome to implement it, but it would certainly be worth an issue on our GitHub page if you'd like to create one please: github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issue…

Interesting that something like this existed. Love that sort of ideas.

Does anyone have a copy of the Minute Marker tape produced by Brayton and Sons Productions in the early 90's? It was a twenty-minute timer on a tape. There were different drum sounds for fifteen, thirty, and forty-five seconds past each minute, then each minute had claps counting the minutes. One side had a tick every second along with all the other sounds, the other side omitted the ticks. I never had or even saw a copy of the tape, all I ever heard was a promo for it he put in Playback Magazine, audio attached.

I just added 13 more instrumental tracks to my collection. If you need some music for your upcoming project (game, podcast, video...), Look at ondrosik.sk/music #cc0 #music

I work as an audiobook quality controller. My employer uses ClickUp to manage tasks. Unfortunately, the web interface is unintuitive and inaccessible. It contains unnamed elements, menus that expand in all kinds of ways, and similar issues. I wrote to their developers, but even after years nothing has been fixed. Fortunately, ClickUp has an open API. So I used vibecoding and now I have my own minimalist HTML application that displays my tasks, start and end dates, comments, and attachments, and allows me to post comments. I still can’t change task statuses yet—we’ll see if I manage to solve that with the help of GPT. Of course, this is not how a blind person should function in an ideal world, but it is still a way we can help ourselves. That said, I still need a server where my PHP scripts run; it could probably be done with Python as well, but PHP seemed simpler to me since it’s already running on my server. BTW it would be ideal if Clickup api documentation is one simple document which I can throw to gpt but it seems that chatgpt already know how to use it.

If you want a bunch of random noise and chaos in your life, there's a silly thing I put together, called FX Radio.

It's a box running Liquidsoap that mixes several audio players going through a huge library of sound effects, production libraries, and other odd things.

Don't expect anything to make sense. If it does, it's purely coincidental.

stream.borris.me:8888/fx

This is running on the same machine that hosts @NoiseBox, which throws a random sound at the fediverse once an hour, at a random minute each hour.

Fun fact:
This is running on a shelf under my mom's desk. While she knows the box is there, she doesn't know what it does. So, it's fun just for that reason.

I put my mouse in the microwave !!

Seriously. I have a bluetooth mouse that wouldn't enter pairing mode. It was connecting to *something*... maybe a smart switch or whatever. This cheap mouse has no way to enter pairing mode if it's connected to something.

So anyway, a microwave oven is a faraday cage. I turned the mouse on, tossed it in, shut the door and waited. It entered pairing mode quickly, and boom, connected to my tablet.

A+++ life hack by yours truly. Just don't start the nuker or magic smoke will come out 😆

There is something wrong with Trump.

At a meeting with oil industry CEO’s he suddenly interrupts his introductory remarks, gets up and looks out the window and starts talking about his ballroom. Trump then realizes his mistake and says “unusual time to look”, and sits back down to continue.

How many oil companies will invest in a Venezuelan oil project initiated by a man who loses track of the situation he is in?

Seeking recommendations for a reliable, accessible platform to host a support/discussion email list/listserv/snapshot of the 90's with around 1000 members. We're with GroupsIO right now but I'm tired of their in-browser inaccessibility. Cheap would be brilliant as my group doesn't directly make money, can pay something for solid service, accessibility and responsive support though.

I probably don't fancy self-hosting this much traffic.

Boosts appreciated.

For everyone who enjoys discovering new music, I have a set of tools that can help. Shaq-GUI consists of three applications, each serving a different purpose:
1.
shaqgui.exe – a simple application that listens to a selected input or output of your computer and saves whatever it recognizes to a file.
2.
shaqfilegui.exe – do you have old radio shows archived somewhere and want to know which songs were played in them? This app will definitely help.
3.
shaqcast.exe – something for radio broadcasters who play music from CDs, vinyl, etc., and want to send the titles of the tracks they’re playing to a server. For now it supports Shoutcast; if needed, I can add support for Icecast as well.
Everything is accessible with screen readers:
github.com/michaldziwisz/shaq-…
You can download the programs here:
gitrls.com/michaldziwisz/shaq-…
Feel like you could add something, improve it, or help with development? I’m open to pull requests.

I don't know what you mean by loopholes, but, I am thinking on it now. I already downloaded it, before I realised it's for windows. LOL. There would need to be additional things added to it, like apple's broken speech API, unless accessible output solves that, but I don't think so, or maybe it does, but it'd be fun on mac. Not sure how to compile it, but if you want, we can try. I am not a bad tardis, I follow instructions. Grins. Haha.

@ondrosik Thanks for publishing it online for all of us to enjoy and reuse. It's very important to see an example of real personal creativity these times when AI is dominating the space of background music, jingles and other short tracks.

Huge thanks!

This holiday season I'd like to make someone I think is very important a bit of joy, however I need your help with it.

National bank of slovakia is issuing so called commemorative and collector euro 2 coins to celebrate historic memories, anniversaries and other special events. A friend of mine is collecting these coins with her dad whenever it's possible.

I have found out this is not specific to our country as european central bank has standardised this process and all the countries that have accepted euro can issue such commemorative coins.

Now the part I'd need some help with.

Can you please check with the national bank where you live if you can acquire some of the commemorative euro 2 coins, make me an offer and send these to me through ordinary post / mail service please?

Thanks for your understanding and possible help you can provide. #fediHelp #fediPower #boostsWelcome

No worries, it was meant to be a semi-serious comment, but I am not sure why this sounds wrong for you. The fact is that the beta works better right now than the web version, right? So regardless of how and when it is updated, accessibility-wise it's a better choice.

Should they fix the issues people are having, the web version could be a reasonably good client to migrate to, but given how Meta's handling betas and choosing to drop things just because they feel like it does not fill me with confidence that the future's bright. That's a different story though.

@erion Wait a sec, I think we are talking past each other.
The article and over all complaint says that WhatsApp Desktop, regardless of the normal app or beta, is getting an electron web app.
The article says we should get WhatsApp beta (which, as I mentioned, is currently rolling out as the electron web app) so the solution is already invalid for the problem. The WhatsApp Plus Add On that article mentiones does also only work for the native app, which is beeing replaced.
Honestly at this point the WhatsApp website, web.whatsapp.com, can at least be tweaked with scripts like here: someplace.social/@jcsteh@aus.s…
So in my personal opinion, the website is currently the best bet. Though I don't use it cuz I simply want to have a dedicated app. But taht's another topic on it's own. TLDR afaik the article suggests an already broken solution and is not helpful.
in reply to Jonathan

The article does not mention that the beta is using Electron, it just says: It simply provides newer features and a different structure than the standard version.

If we suppose that the beta is updated more often than the web version, then even if it's using Electron, if they change anything in regards to accessibility, beta users would see it there first.

Now the question is, given that WhatsApp is known to roll out different versions to different regions and update them at different times, could have been a change somewhere that both the author of the article and @NightDrake could not have had access to? Or could it be that the native app was the beta while the desktop one was already updated to the web version, i.e. the beta is still behind in some regions?

I believe what you said, but there has to be a reason why it works for some people still and it doesn't for others. I don't think this is intentional and honestly the more I hear about this the more messy it becomes, mainly because of Meta. One step forward and two steps back, as they say.

Here's a collection of free-to-use short music for any kind of project imaginable. I've been working on this project for over 10 years on and off, and it's a labour of love.

Whether you're doing work for TV, Radio, Film, your next podcast, show reel, powerpoint presentation, youtube video or university assignment that requires something to intro or outro it, there should be something for you, and if not you directly, maybe someone you know.

This is not the final form. I add to it whenever I find inspiration to do so. Check back every so often as you may find more content was added when you weren't looking 🔇

Currently:
1210 items
766 MB download in mp3
over 9 hours of music.

Absolutely no AI was used (or harmed) in the making of this collection.

If you feel so inclined, please do boost for reach. Many thanks.

@vwestlife long time fan/follower of the channel. I remember a few years ago you bought a collection of CD's from a company who's name I forget.
Here's a free resource I've made by hand, no AI over the last 10+ years that I hoped you might find useful.
I'm replying to the original post so that you can see/find it if interested.
Thanks for your time.

I was able to co-code another audio game with ChatGPT: introducing Arcane Audio Archer! I'm still working on difficulty shifts later on in gameplay, but it was fun coming up with all the sound effects, the styling and design, and the ballistics model, all while wrangling the AI to stay on target and fixing the output for overall #A11y and usability. Another project by the #blind for the blind! Go shoot some targets! marconius.com/fun/audioArcher/
