Enjoyed presenting on Day 1 of Drupal GovCon -- Data Analysis of Drupal, Government and Best Practices

TLDR: Drupal is doing better than average, based on most CrUX Core Web Vital evaluations, but we still need to do better for CX.

As a community we can work to improve these scores and improve the digital experience of .gov sites.

People like me are too deep into the Apple ecosystem to ever reasonably leave. Until/unless they fully neuter macOS, I’m here for life. And I’ll realistically never use Android. But the next generation of users might use an iPhone, but they also rely on the web and services from other companies. They use Chromebooks. They don’t have a reason to “root” for Apple the same way I did as a kid. And that’s how platforms change and ecosystems fall off. mastodon.social/@film_girl/112…
in reply to Christina Warren

Like a lot of 90s kids, I grew up on Windows at home but used Macs at school and switched to Macs in college during the 2000s. We bought iPods, not Zunes. MacBooks, not Vista. iPhones, not Windows Phones (or Windows Mobile). iPads, not Android tablets. But 2010s kids have other options. And Apple’s odious decisions like making macOS worse, being ratfuckers about the App Store (while still approving/promoting scam apps) doesn’t win over the loyalties of the next-generation of big-money users.
in reply to Christina Warren

Already we see how these sorts of policies play out poorly for Apple: the Apple Vision Pro is so far, an expensive flop that has very few apps and has made its devs very little money (I’ve talked to many. Only a few have done “well”) and most are wholly unwilling to even build an app for it. These policies and decisions have downstream effects. There are consequences. Apple might not “see” them b/c they still print money, but they exist.

New LeaseyBite. Getting Efficient With Reading Email Messages in Microsoft Outlook.

Through Leasey, JAWS has the ability to automatically speak the content of the Outlook reading pane as you move through messages in a mail folder. This means that if the reading pane is enabled, as you move to a new message JAWS will speak the usual details such as the presence of attachments, author and subject, followed by the content of the reading pane. In most cases, the reading pane displays the entire content of a message. This can be very helpful because you can read your Email messages without opening them. Listening to this information can help in making a decision as to whether you wish to open the message, move it elsewhere or delete it.
This feature is a real productivity boost.

LibreOffice is always free to download from our website. But it's also in the Microsoft Store for a small fee, which helps to cover the costs of putting it there and fund future development. And now there's a 15% #backtoschool discount: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl…

@Lenni @mjdxp We can't count stats on infra beyond our control, of course, but we can make some estimates. In any case, yes, the vast majority of Linux users get LibreOffice from their distro's own package repos (which means they're often older versions, but that's another topic 😉)

Is it possible to a company to buy a bunch of copies to distribute with the colleagues with a single account? I think something like a licence to have more than one copy. Or the only solution is that anyone buys his copy?

The Sims 4 added attraction preferences in a recent Expansion, and Gen 4 of my legacy is the first to reach maturity with the new systems. I decided to randomize their preferences, and got some very fun results:

I just read on the fediverse about a trackball input system that is open hardware. When I looked at the website I found out that they design a headphone and several trackballs and mice.

I am happy with my computer mouse. But out of curiosity I might try a product of them later this year

Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

Apple gave us a great, #accessible graphing calculator on #iOS and #iPadOS in the form of math notes. Given, for example a quadratic function: y=2x^2 +x +1 it generates a graph which sounds like this. While such simple quadratic equations can be used only in schools I see huge potential in making math more accessible to the #blind. As a math nerd and someone who almost failed a year at school due to accessibility, I am really happy and grateful to #apple for making this accessible to us.

So am I to understand that a full 38% of my revenue may now be siphoned off by Patreon and Apple, neither of whom contribute in any way to the creation of my work?

And that this is because Patreon wants to have an iOS app, which I do not need, do not benefit from, did not exist when I selected them as my payment processor, and cannot opt out of?

Um, no thank you.
I called this as a danger almost a year ago, btw:

fun Linux fact:

There are at least two places in the Linux kernel where performance-sensitive code paths use a, uh, retrospective approach to memory safety, where you do the memory read first (and suppress the occasional kernel page fault) and worry about making sure it was memory-safe later.

One of the two is in the SLUB allocator's lockless allocation fastpath: elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v6.10…
It (1) first loads the pointer to the current top freelist element, then (2) reads the next freelist pointer out of that element, and (3) does a double-wide atomic compare-exchange to check if it raced and replace the freelist head. The read in step (2) can return garbage or fault if someone else concurrently modified the freelist (basically it can be UAF), but in that case step (3) that uses the result of the read is guaranteed to fail, so it's fine.

The other one is in the Virtual File System layer, used for printing pathnames (like for getcwd()):
elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v6.10…
As the comment there explains:

 * The source of the prepend data can be an optimistic load<br> * of a dentry name and length. And because we don't hold any<br> * locks, the length and the pointer to the name may not be<br> * in sync if a concurrent rename happens, and the kernel<br> * copy might fault as a result.<br> *<br> * The end result will correct itself when we check the<br> * rename sequence count, but we need to be able to handle<br> * the fault gracefully.<br>

So this one can race so that OOB memory is copied into the path buffer, but the kernel will afterwards notice that the "how many rename operations have happened" counter has gone up (or that the "we are currently in the middle of a rename" bit is set), discard the result, and try again.
